Sir Vivian Richards Trophy - 1st Test

South Africa v West Indies

West Indies won by 128 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100  | Overs 101-150

16.6

Nel to Ganga, OUT, South Africa have the breakthrough! Ganga had done an excellent job of leaving the wide ones alone, until now that is. He drove loosely away from his body at one that wasn't full enough to drive and got a thick edge through to Boucher who took an easy catch, relieved celebrations from the South Africans

D Ganga c †Boucher b Nel 33 (79m 57b 4x4 0x6) SR: 57.89

West Indies 98/1   CH Gayle 62* (47b 12x4)   A Nel 5-0-16-1

17.2

Harris to Gayle, OUT, and Harris hits back, and how! Harris tossed it up nicely outside off stump, Gayle came forward once again and drove, this time he had to reach out for it a little bit more and got a thick edge to Kallis at first slip, two massive wickets within the space of three balls

CH Gayle c Kallis b Harris 66 (83m 49b 13x4 0x6) SR: 134.69

West Indies 102/2   RS Morton 0* (0b)   PL Harris 0.2-0-4-1

41.3

Ntini to Morton, OUT, caught! Morton gets on to the front foot a bit too early and tries to defend, the length is just a little bit short on off stump, the ball bounces a bit more and hits the outside edge high on the bat, it lobs up tamely to Prince at point who takes one of the easiest catches you can hope to get

RS Morton c Prince b Ntini 33 (108m 71b 7x4 0x6) SR: 46.47

West Indies 166/3   MN Samuels 29* (75b 2x4)   M Ntini 10.3-0-54-1

80.5

Steyn to Samuels, OUT, that is a stunning catch from Kallis! Samuels sees one full and wide and went after it, the ball swung away from Samuels and got the thick outside edge of his expansive drive, the ball flew at rapid speed towards Kallis at second slip who took the catch over his head to the left and staggered backwards because of the momentum of the ball, and it wasn't a no ball this time, Steyn has his first wicket

MN Samuels c Kallis b Steyn 94 (267m 195b 12x4 0x6) SR: 48.20

West Indies 277/4   S Chanderpaul 39* (116b 4x4)   DW Steyn 18.5-0-82-1

91.1

Ntini to Bravo, OUT, caught after a collision! Bravo tried to close the face of the bat to a good length ball that was angling into him from outside off stump, he was a bit early on the one-legged flick and the leading edge went high in the air on the off side, Ntini went for the catch and so did Gibbs from gully, in the end Ntini caught it and bumped into Gibbs, who fell down, soon after, it could have easily been spilled but all's well that ends well for South Africa

DJ Bravo c & b Ntini 12 (47m 36b 2x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

West Indies 296/5   S Chanderpaul 45* (142b 5x4)   M Ntini 21.1-3-84-2

93.4

Ntini to Ramdin, OUT, that's pretty unplayable and Ramdin gets an edge that's snapped up by Boucher, Ntini went wide of the crease once again and angled the ball into Ramdin, it pitched around off stump and straightened squaring Ramdin up, the ball kissed the outside edge of his back-foot defence and South Africa have their second wicket of the morning

D Ramdin c †Boucher b Ntini 1 (12m 10b 0x4 0x6) SR: 10.00

West Indies 304/6   S Chanderpaul 52* (147b 6x4)   M Ntini 22.4-4-84-3

115.1

Ntini to Chanderpaul, OUT, Chanderpaul drops the ball with soft hands towards cover and calls for the quick single, de Villiers sprints in from cover, picks up the ball and throws down the stumps with a full length dive, he takes out the stumps with his body afterwards during his slide, it's a tight decision for the third umpire to make, Sammy's bat was just on the line but it's unclear whether the bail was off or not before the bat slid inside the crease, but Rudi Koertzen's hit the out button and Sammy has to go

DJG Sammy run out 38 (93m 77b 3x4 0x6) SR: 49.35

West Indies 361/7   S Chanderpaul 71* (199b 9x4)   M Ntini 27.1-4-98-3

125.4

Steyn to Taylor, OUT, and he's made me take that back! That's the delivery he's been looking for all day. It's a full, fast yorker which angles into Taylor before swinging away and uprooting the off stump, the stump goes for a walk and Steyn loves it

JE Taylor b Steyn 9 (46m 37b 1x4 0x6) SR: 24.32

West Indies 385/8   S Chanderpaul 86* (225b 10x4)   DW Steyn 28.4-4-112-2

133.1

Nel to Chanderpaul, OUT, he's bowled him! And against the run of play! Nel angles the ball into the left-hander from round the wicket, the ball pitches on a good length around off stump, Chanderpaul gets drawn forward and defends down the wrong line, the ball straightens just enough to beat the bat and clip the top of off stump, outstanding ball, very similar to the one with which Zaheer bowled Ponting in Melbourne yesterday

S Chanderpaul b Nel 104 (394m 253b 12x4 0x6) SR: 41.10

West Indies 407/9   DBL Powell 1* (17b)   A Nel 25.1-7-84-2

133.4

Nel to Edwards, OUT, he's out this time, Nel bowls a short of a length delivery whch rises sharply on Edwards who fends at it and gets an outside edge to gully where Prince takes an easy catch

FH Edwards c Prince b Nel 0 (4m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

West Indies 408/10   DBL Powell 1* (17b)   A Nel 25.4-7-85-3
