Charles Fry, grandson of the legendary CB, played almost all his first-class cricket for Oxford University where he won three Blues as a middle-order batsman and, in his third Varsity match, he also kept wicket. He also played a handful of matches for Hampshire, including one as a keeper-batsman in their 1961 Championship success, and twice for Northamptonshire the year after leaving Oxford. An establishment man through and through, Fry capped his association with MCC by becoming the club's president and then chairman, although his tenure was not short on controversy, with critics assuming him of running affairs in the style of a dictator.
