Carl Bulfin      

Carl Bulfin was at one time considered by selectors to be the quickest bowler in the country. The young Marlborough cricketer first came to prominence with the introduction of Super Max Cricket in 1996. His blonde dreadlocks and raw talent captured public attention. In the subsequent three years Bulfin traded the dreadlocks for a No. 1 and moved from Central Districts to the Wellington. The first indication that Carl Bulfin was in contention for international selection was his inclusion in the preliminary World Cup squad of 19 players in February 1999. He was called into the New Zealand side for the last three ODIs against South Africa in early 1999 in place of Simon Doull. Bulfin struggled to maintain control over his pace and direction and conceded 78 runs in the 11 overs he bowled. The selectors stuck with him for the World Cup, looking for extra firepower. However he played only one game, against Scotland, in the tournament and then angered the NZ board and Nottinghamshire after reneging on an agreement to play for the county. Two poor domestic seasons followed and he faded from the game.
