Bangladesh have been rewarded with a spot in the 2008 women's Asia Cup following their win at the Asian Cricket Council tournament last year. So this edition of the Asia Cup, to be held in Sri Lanka, will see four teams - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - unlike the previous ones where only the first three participated.

The 10-day long tournament, from May 2 to May 11, will be played at Dambulla and Kurunegala, near Kandy. The teams will play each other twice before the top two meet for the final at the Welagedara Stadium in Kurunegala.

Sri Lanka last hosted the tournament in April 2004, but it was in fact a bi-lateral series which India won 5-0. India went on to win the next two editions as well.

Bangladesh, who didn't drop a single game in the ACC tournament - their first major tournament - are not ranked in the top 14 sides in the world. This means their matches in the Asia Cup will not be considered one-day internationals. Their first match of the tournament is against India on May 2 in Kurunegala.
