Mike Murray was a right-hand batsman who played for Middlesex a handful of times in 1952 and 1953 with little success. He also played for the 2nd XI and captained Beddington. A career banker with Lloyds, it was as an administrator that he really made his mark, serving on Middlesex committees for more than 40 years, and as chairman from 1984 to 1993 and as president in 1997-98. He was also the chairman of the TCCB (the forerunner of the ECB) finance committee and in 1992 published The Murray Report which recommended, among other things, the introduction of four-day County Championship cricket.
