Richard Pyrah is a batting allrounder who at first carved a niche for himself with some steady performances in one-day cricket but by the 2010 season - six years after his Yorkshire debut - was beginning to show he had the qualities to be a useful player in four-day cricket as well as a key figure in the limited-overs format.
That year his medium pace claimed 20 wickets in the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition and an impressive 21 wickets at 19.42 in the Friends Life t20, often stifling the opposition in the middle part of an innings. He also contributed 304 first-class runs in seven matches.
In 2011 he was Yorkshire's leading T20 wicket-taker with another 21 victims, including 5 for 16 against Durham at Scarborough, which stood as the best analysis for any Yorkshire bowler in the 20-over format. In first-class cricket, he enjoyed his best season by some distance with the ball, taking 29 wickets at 32.96, including career-best figures of 5 for 58 against Nottinghamshire in April, and produced one of the season's most memorable innings with the bat when he rescued Yorkshire from 45 for 8 against Lancashire at Headingley in July with a brilliant 117.
Two broken hands suffered at either end of the season disrupted his 2012 summer and greater competition in the seam bowling ranks meant that he featured most heavily in one-day cricket the following year.
