Paul is another of those embarking on his second I.C.C. Trophy trip. On the previous trip to Kenya he was accompanied by his brother, Charles so that both the Kenya and the Malaysia trips are marked by the fact that the Irish party contains a pair of brothers - the McCrums in Kenya and the Pattersons now.
Paul dropped out of the scene after the Kenya trip but fought his way back this year with a very successful season. Against M.C.C. he took his maiden five wicket in an innings haul. It is perhaps surprising in many ways that this should have come so late, but on the other hand it is maybe indicative of the vast amount of one day cricket now being played by the Irish team.
