Laurie Mahoney was a medium-paced opening bowler who played twice for Canterbury in back-to-back matches in December 1948, by which time he was near the end of his career. In the first game he took 4 for 52 (on Christmas Day) and 1 for 57 against Otago, and the following week 2 for 66 and 1 for 57 against Wellington.
