Brendan Joseland's success rate in first-class cricket is incredible: two matches and two half-centuries. Despite his record he was unable to add to his Pura Cup or ING collection last summer and at 30 has little time to lose. Fortunately his off-field career is solid as an engineer and church charity worker. He was handed a debut in 2003-04 and began with a 51-ball half-century against Tasmania, waiting another season for a fifty as an opener against South Australia. Joseland also bowls useful medium pacers but spends most of his time showing his skills at the Melbourne University club.

Three days ahead of the fourth Test, the surface at the HPCA Stadium wore a smattering of grass. Will that, or Mohammed Shami's availability, subject to fitness, change India's combination?
