  • It was Australia's 469th and West Indies' 410th match.
  • It was the 95th match between these two sides. The record now reads: Australia 40, West Indies 52, tied 2 and abandoned one.
  • Umpires Darrell Hair and Simon Taufel officiated in their 65th and 15th match respectively.
  • Colin Stuart (right handed batsman and right arm fast medium bowler made his ODI debut- 105th player to appear for West Indies.
  • Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh became the first ever pair to aggregate 2000 runs for the opening wicket in day-night matches during their partnership of 98 runs. The pair opened the Australian innings for the 41st time.
  • Gilchrist (40) on 38 completed his 3000 runs in matches in which he has kept wicket for Australia as well. He became the first Australian and only the third wicketkeeper after Zimbabwean Andy Flower (4793 runs in 154 matches) and Englishman Alec Stewart (3271 in 105).
  • Ricky Ponting (93) on 57 completed his 2000 runs in day-night matches. He was playing his 54th match and innings. Ponting became the seventh Australian and 15th batsman overall to do so. Others with 2000 plus runs in day-night matches for Australia are Mark Waugh (3976 runs in 112 matches), Steve Waugh (2774 in 131), Michael Bevan (2551 in 76), Allan Border (2360 in 101), Dean Jones (2296 in 67) and David Boon (2088 in 68).
  • Ponting now holds the record of completing 2000 runs in day-night encounters in least matches for Australia. The previous record was held by Dean Jones who reached his 2000th runs in his 56th matches. Ponting, however, is joint second fastest for Australia in terms of innings.taken to achieve this milestone as he took 54 innings likewise Dean Jonesone more than taken by Bevan. The ODI record is held by India's Sachin Tendulkar with 51 matches and innings.
  • Ponting became the 17th Australian on 34th occasion to become a victim of nervous ninety.
  • Colin Stuart's figures (8-0-57-0) is the third most expensive by a West Indian bowler on debut after Mervyn Dillon's 9-0-68-0 against South Africa at Lahore in 1997-98 and Pedro Collins' 10-0-58-0 against Pakistan at Sharjah in 1999-00.
  • Brian Lara (116*) scored his 14th hundred in his 177th match. The hundred was his third against Australia and his fourth in day-night matches.
  • Lara has now made fifty plus scores (including hundreds) on 56 occasions which equals the tally of Viv Richards. Now only Desmond Haynes with 74 (17+57) scores of fifty or more is ahead of Lara for West Indies.
  • Lara has now made 1040 runs in 24 day-night matches while batting second. He became the first batsman from West Indies and 11th batsman overall to do so. Incidentally India's Sachin Tendulkar with 2058 runs from 45 matches heads the table.
  • Australia has now won 12 World Series Cup matches at a trota new record. Ironically the previous record was of 11 consecuive wins set by West Indies in between 1983-84 and 1984-85.
  • The man of the Match award was 24th for Lara .
