Big picture

In the three host cities, street corners have been spruced up with more than just the extra coat of paint. Christmas-like lightings have made Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet look quite different. The cricket stadiums have been made to look like someone's wedding is around the corner.

Security men, thousands of them, have taken up their positions, flash mob videos have been YouTubed and almost everything else is in place in Bangladesh for the World T20. All except the host nation's cricket team.

They play on the opening day, against Afghanistan, with the threat of elimination hanging over both teams. Since only one team will qualify from Group A of the World T20's first round, result of this particular game will set the mood of the tournament in the country.

For Afghanistan, the extra pressure on Bangladesh is an advantage. They have already taken the upper-hand by beating the home side in the Asia Cup earlier this month, and have been talking up this exact phenomenon at every opportunity. They would like to latch on every opportunity, particularly with Shapoor and Dawlat Zadran with the new ball.

However, they have lost some momentum in their last four outings, particularly with the bat. Mohammad Shahzad, captain Mohammad Nabi, Samiullah Shenwari have to take control of the top, middle and lower-order while at the same time, Nabi and Shenwari have a tough job ahead of them with the older ball.

The return from injury of Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Mortaza and Sohag Gazi will be a welcome boost for the home side, but the two senior pros still have be handled with care. Tamim has to be monitored daily for his neck strain while Mashrafe has to play with the sort of discomfort he has always played with. Gazi's finger injury has healed considerably, and he is match fit too.

Shakib Al Hasan will have a major say on the game too, particularly having claimed the No. 3 position in T20s. Bangladesh also have the luxury to pick either of Anamul Haque or Shamsur Rahman to open with Tamim, but a tougher call is required when they have to pick two among Mominul Haque, Sabbir Rahman and Mahmudullah. Conventional wisdom would be slightly harsh on Mominul but Sabbir and Mahmudullah are more useful after Mushfiqur Rahim in the batting order in T20s.

Shakib will also be the key bowler for Mushfiqur, but it will be rotating the others around the lead left-arm spinner that will be the real test for the captain. Bangladesh will want a good day for Rubel Hossain and Abdur Razzak, which would balance out the bowling attack.

Without taking a negative look at the outcome of this game, consider the possibilities for both sides. If Bangladesh win, they will have one foot in the second round, and a chance to ride on the wave of excitement and frenzy of a cricket-mad nation gone madder for its team. If Afghanistan does the same, they will have endless possibilities in front of them and all the bragging rights that an Associate nation can have in progress.

The match will be full of emotional highs and the tension will be at its peak. This, bear in mind, is the first game of the tournament.

Form guide

(Completed matches, most recent first)

Bangladesh LLLWL
Afghanistan LLWWL

Watch out for

He has returned after a month-long break with a neck strain, and haven't Bangladesh missed Tamim Iqbal dearly? He will be tasked to take full advantage of the Powerplay against Afghanistan's impressive pace attack, which will be the sort of contest he relishes.

Mohammad Nabi has not fired fully in this trip to Bangladesh, so this is the big occasion for him. He is Afghanistan's captain and most talented cricketer, and will be expected to have a major influence with the bat and offspin.

Team news

Bangladesh will have to leave out Al-Amin Hossain if Mashrafe Mortaza is fit to play. There will be a last-minute call between Farhad Reza and Sohag Gazi depending on who offers Mushfiqur more safety. Either one of Mominul Haque and Sabbir Rahman would be given a place in the playing XI.

Bangladesh (possible) 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Anamul Haque, 3 Shakib Al Hasan, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (capt & wk), 5 Mominul Haque/Sabbir Rahman, 6 Nasir Hossain, 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Farhad Reza/Sohag Gazi, 9 Mashrafe Mortaza/Al-Amin Hossain, 10 Abdur Razzak, 11 Rubel Hossain

Both Twenty20 specialists Najeeb Tarakai and Shafiqullah are likely to be given places in the final XI, making it difficult for Asghar Stanikzai to find a place. Mirwais Ashraf's medium pace will be handy in Mirpur, but he will have to fight for a spot with Gulbadin Naib, who has prior experience of playing at the ground.

Afghanistan (possible) 1 Mohammad Shahzad (wk), 2 Nawroz Mangal, 3 Karim Sadiq, 4 Shafiqullah, 5 Mohammad Nabi (capt), 6 Najibullah Zadran, 7 Gulbadin Naib, 8 Samiullah Shenwari, 9 Dawlat Zadran, 10 Shappoor Zadran, 11 Hamza Hotak

Pitch and conditions

The Mirpur wicket will cater to the demand of the organisers. There will be a flat, batting-friendly surface with short boundaries on at least one side, depending on which wicket is used for the tournament opener. By the time the match starts, the weather will cool down according to the forecast for Sunday.

Stats and trivia

  • From the current Afghanistan team, Nabi has the highest strike-rate at 129.64, while Shenwari bowls at 5.87, the best economy rate.

  • Despite being not out six times in his T20i career, Mushfiqur averages 18.33 with the bat in this format.

Quotes

"When you're hosting a world tournament and you want to be in the tournament and you're afraid of getting out of it that is the sort of pressure that is on you. I personally think they [Bangladesh] are facing more pressure than us."
Afghanistan coach Kabir Khan puts a bit more pressure on Bangladesh

"I am sure if we can minimise our mistakes from here, we will be confident as a team, which we need the most on the 16th [of March]." Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal is looking to minimise the errors

God, Afghinstan Seriously need to Know how to Bat...

Posted by Oracle_Magus on (March 16, 2014, 12:15 GMT)

A convincing win by BD. They have bounced back from a dreadful Asia Cup performance. BD used their spinners well and Afghans batsmen once again highlighted their weakness against spin here. Shaqib put the BD back on track with 2 wickets in an over and from there on there was no turning back for the BD. A few unpleasant interaction between the players on field could have been avoided. All in all a good start for the world T20. The Hosts almost cemented their place in Group A with this win and we can get to see a good tournament ahead. Cheers!

What the... it's only 6:04. where is that nail-biting match everyone was promising?!!! ;)

Posted by Oracle_Magus on (March 16, 2014, 9:59 GMT)

BD team has done their basics right this time by opting to chase. Afghan batsmen seems to be under a lot of pressure, since this win will take them into Group A and this will be a major achievement for their team. Luck has been is Afghan's favour so far, except for the wicket if Shahzad, the other mishits has not caused them any trouble. BD are the favourites today, but a total of over 150 will be difficult to chase in this pressure match. We will surely have a great match today. May the best team win. Cheers!

Posted by wapuser on (March 16, 2014, 9:25 GMT)

@Alif Russell you must be seeing cricket for the first time. BD will mostly qualify for this tournament but please do not say they will dominate cricket after 4 years. They did not lose some matches they lost all matches in Asia Cup and to SL before that. They have been able to only beat second string NZ sides at home having said that they have also caused many upsets against Eng Aus Ind Pak over the years .They have good individual players but somehow do not gel well as unit .Do not say they will dominate.

Posted by Manoj1234 on (March 16, 2014, 9:23 GMT)

Bangladesh will lose as they have never played under this type of pressure before. Pressure that comes from playing an underdog. Specially in a big ticket almost knockout game.

Posted by YsaKaru on (March 16, 2014, 9:22 GMT)

poor decision by Mushfiqur Rahim to bowl first.afg strenght is their bowlers.they can defend their total.

Posted by android_user on (March 16, 2014, 9:07 GMT)

it would be a nail bitting opening game as Bangladesh is one of the strongest side on paper and Afghanistan with tons of surprise packages at international level and Afghanistan will be giving tough time to Bangladesh in today's contest only of they improve their fielding because Afghanistan lacks proper fielding unit which make their lethal bowling attack ordinary

some people r saying Afghanistan will beat Bangladesh more than easily.but the fact is if any of our Bangladesh players get going can the mighty(!!) Afghanistan have the ability to beat Bangladesh???

Posted by wapuser on (March 16, 2014, 7:44 GMT)

Tigers and fans are not worry about associate teams. It is big match for Afghan cricket but doesn't matter for BD. AFG are living in the dream, soon will b wake up. BD beat almost all of the countries, even AUS ,does it mean BD plays better then AUS? So not AFG. Good luck anyway:-)

Posted by imtiazjaleel on (March 16, 2014, 7:32 GMT)

if AFGHANS can bat well then it will be a close encounter.

Posted by lovesanga on (March 16, 2014, 7:29 GMT)

I think BD have to prove lots of things in world cricket..SL won the world cup after 14 years of test status..only positive thing to BD is their fans..bt they have to realize BD have lot to improve.

Posted by h313 on (March 16, 2014, 7:21 GMT)

wow! wow! wow! it is astonishing to see that after beating BD once Afganistan became a rival or better than BD or world class team! most people forget that cricket is not about beating a team suddenly, if that was the case than BD has beaten Pak, Kenya beaten mighty WI, Zim beaten mighty Aus, again BD beaten mighty Aus. sometimes I wonder what do some people from a middle of a country get by making harsh comments? People of Afgan are more down to earth than people from other country!!!I humbly like to advise people pls mind your own business and let the BD and Afgan to enjoy their match.

Posted by computerguru on (March 16, 2014, 7:11 GMT)

First of all, welcome everyone to our country, Bangladesh. Lets hope you all will enjoy a thrilling tournament this time.

I actually can't quite understand the hatred the supporters of the respective teams are throwing towards each other. The theme of the sports is to be sportive, be friendly. I see no point being hostile to each other and making a mockery of each others. This is the game of cricket we all love and we should enjoy it without bashing each other.

Now, any match have only one winner, doesn't matter how good teams' perform, only one team will come out as winner. Yes, the team which will play better should win, but the luck factor may rob them a victory as well. And again the tournament will have only one champion. That doesn't mean the other teams' are ordinary.

Cricket is meant to be a form of enjoyment, so lets enjoy the show, and lets take it only a game and appreciate performers from both teams.

Posted by AwaisZahur on (March 16, 2014, 7:04 GMT)

Tamim Iqbal and Shakib not played against afghanistan in Asia Cup, that was really difference, else with this team bangladesh have no problem in winning

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 6:59 GMT)

The Afghan team is far better in T20 than ODI. In Sha Allah they will rock the ground by displaying a nail-biting performance against the hosts. We just need a satisfactory start, and that will be it. Though we dont take the BD side for granted, our team (Afghanistan) are fully prepared to give their best and make yet another upset and put one step ahead to qualify for the next round. Prayers their way!!

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 6:58 GMT)

Inshallah afghanistan will win the match

Posted by surangajani on (March 16, 2014, 6:54 GMT)

If Bangladesh loose today it will be good for their cricket,Because they will fool by beating Afghanistan assuming that they can win the T20 world cup.by loosing to Afghanistan they will tr to correct basic errors, such as they should find discipline opening bowlers.

Posted by OZcrick on (March 16, 2014, 6:53 GMT)

survivor of the fittest ... like both the countries and their passion for cricket!

Posted by wapuser on (March 16, 2014, 6:47 GMT)

Even in last game against Afghanistan Bangladish was shown favorite but they lost. Afghans will not be easy to beat.

Posted by ms2000 on (March 16, 2014, 6:46 GMT)

As usual BD fans do not understand where their team stands. They have dropped down to the lowest level. Afgans on the other hand have shown their capabilities with the Bat and Ball. They only need some patience at batting.Today I m sure Afgans wil show what they can do to BD.At least after BD fans will understand better. Go Afgans go for it!! You can

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 6:38 GMT)

I think Bangladesh favorite in this game Afghan is lacking experience & they can not handle the spinners well

Posted by humi_cric on (March 16, 2014, 6:18 GMT)

@HatersAreOrdinary, I am surprised after reading your comments, you are advising Afghan fans to keep their expectation low blah blah blah, but in your own comments, you sound tooooooooo much confident (double standard). I am a Pakistani team supporter and watched all the matches of Asia cup and I think chances of both BD and Afghan teams are 50:50, even I don't think I can say 51:49. After-match comments from BD fans would be very interesting, irrespective of the match result. Indo-Pak clashses and Aus-Eng Ashes are famous and most watchable matches/series in the cricketing world. BD fan tried to develop same type of interest/hype while playing against Pak and India by posting many harsh comments before and after the match but failed. Now they find new rival (Afghan team) which is, at the moment, close to their team. My heart is supporting Afghan but mind is on the BD side, as they are the host nation and we need good crowd for the sake of this sport. Anyway, good luck to both teams.

Posted by SL_rockz on (March 16, 2014, 6:17 GMT)

Please BD fans you still donot respect when superior teams play against you .So how do you expect respect from their fans when inferior sides like Afganistan play against you..... Do not try to pretend here like you had respect the superior teams when you play against them.. If you see fan comments in those articles any body can get to know about the respect shown by BD fans towards others..They simply called their team 'World Best Team' even when they play against number 1 sides.. So now it is the time to taste your own treatment... There is a famous saying that EVERY ACTION HAS A REACTION... enjoy it BD fans... :) ..Hope for a god match...T 20 is always unpredictable.. So lets watch and see who will come up victorious..One thing is sure if BD loose then Umpires ,Pitch , Dew are the factors which make them loose...:)

best of luck to mushfiqur and the team.they're gonna need some good performances to win against Afghanistan.especially after that humiliating loss to them in the Asia cup.not even tamims or mashrafes ability can be able to get a win for them.I think Afghanistan will do it again.the Bangladeshi supporters will have to go home disappointed yet again....

I say pitty on ICC decision on this qualification round. Actually an already qualification round is over. Why they do again a qualification round. Best way is 16 team in 4 group. So all team can play atleast 2 matches against test nations. then cricket will grow in Nepal, Afghanistan, Ireland, Nederlands etc. Instead of enlarge cricket workd ICC doing to down to 10 nation game. I think in future ICC will make a cricket world cup wth INDIA, AUSTRAILA, SOUTH AFRICA and ENGLAND. I pitty on ICC. Spoiling life of cricket players in other countries

Posted by android_user on (March 16, 2014, 5:54 GMT)

Afgans wilk be in favor compared to ODI style they play. So today BAN will have hard time. Hope we can read a new chapter soon.

Posted by android_user on (March 16, 2014, 5:49 GMT)

No matter how strong u r but when u play a qualifing match in your own country to participate in world tournament; the will be on the home side. I think its not a good decision from ICC that the worldcup host have 2 play for qualify match. Either ICC should give a chance to 12 teams in worldcup or gave BD direct entery. If 2day BD will lose; thier supporters definately not be happy & spectetors will less in the tournament...

Posted by HatersAreOrdinary on (March 16, 2014, 5:45 GMT)

some afgan fans are still dreaming :O brothers wake up this game will be played in reality at mirpur not in LA LA Land. keep your expectations low so you dont get hurt after loosing heavily in today's match :D

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 5:42 GMT)

Afghans always respect senior teams, specially those who have helped and are helping Afghan players. As a host and senior team BD had to be directly qualified for the Super Stage, even we saw UAE was given direct qualification as hosts for World t20 qualification, so why not for a senior team. we respect and appreciate talent of our players but we never want to be pride.

Posted by a.razzac on (March 16, 2014, 5:34 GMT)

I hope today bangladesh win the game............Good luck bangladesh cricket team

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 5:30 GMT)

Any given day, any team can win, specially in a short-format game. We've seen Kenya qualified for semi-finals in World Cup before. That didn't make them a top team. Its about consistancy, persistence and total cricketing structure along with a good number of supporters. Well, with respect, afghans are quite behind of Bangladesh at this moment. They will improve, and will get better day by day. Definitely they can. And I've respect for them for being here after a long war demolishing time. Yet, they've to consider many things. Well, good luck to them, yet I think, to be fair, Bangladesh will win.

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 5:22 GMT)

If Afghanistan go through to group stage,Bangladesh won't qualify. Then,BAN would have to wait seeing this whole global tournament played in their country without the participation of their team....How zaat ??

Posted by Wardag on (March 16, 2014, 5:22 GMT)

Good Luck Afghan lions, you have the ability to defeat BD, i believe you will win today's match, and even if you loss till we will love you.

@Sposro, In fact; we have the sense of cricket and also it shows our passion towards cricket. If you see the history cricket in our country its far young than BD. B we still have the talent to upset any team around the world and its game anytime can be changed.

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 5:01 GMT)

Dear Afghan and Bangladeshi fans, please stop throwing negative comments on each other, this is sport not a military battle, it is a friendly game and let it start friendly and end friendly, no matter what BD captain said or what Afghan coach or captain say. this is their own politics of game to pressurize each other, for us it should be an enjoyable game and LET'S ENJOY THE GAME........ let's support our team in positive way by not avoiding negative comments against opposing team.

with Love from Afghansitan

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 4:51 GMT)

@ Dhutugemunu. It's not just about BD. Even if India were to play in the qualifying, I would say the same. Single hosts should get automatic qualification. Let the top 8 play in the main round but add 2 + 2 (not 1 + 1) from the qualifying for variety. In T20 you have chances of surprises. A minnow can gain confidence and go on to better results in other formats. This is the only reason that seems good enough to play t20 between countries. Otherwise there is way too much T20 being played and soon people will lose interest. As it is there is too much Cricket and there is lack of variety and novelty. Of course if the quality of the minnows is bad, the it will dilute cricket. But t20 sort of equalizes.

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 4:50 GMT)

I hope both side do their best try, sport for coming people for peace not for fighting, sport is always for love and peace, we as afghan must respect for BD, they help Afghan player, and encourage them, also Afghan people respect BD people they provide more facilitate for sport in Asia and world T20 cup, good luck for both side BD is more strong hope Afghan team play with him positive and learn from them. respect for all nations from Afghanistan.

Hi, BD selectors,

We feel to Need ZIAUR RAHMAN in BD team. because he is attacking cricketer for T20 He is clearly in form now and is capable of taking oppositions bowlers on. He even performs as an opener - he also gave this very team a scare in their last outing - how many more times must management faulter like this?

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 4:49 GMT)

we respect all senior cricket teams....they are our teachers, but our people are angry with BD captain challenging us by beating. this is game it could change n one over..... still supporting BD team, but i hope Afg win this...

Posted by Sir_Misbah_Ul_Haq on (March 16, 2014, 4:45 GMT)

I just don't understand why the Bangladesh fans are so confident before the match against top quality sides and start crying when their team lose. It is the same as any Pakistani or an Indian supporter is supporting their football team against a match with Italy. And then start banging their heads when the team loses. You have got to know your potential and abilities and then set your hopes. Anyways, Best Of Luck for today!

Posted by OttawaRocks on (March 16, 2014, 4:43 GMT)

I'm going to have to agree with Jonah and say that Bangladesh should NOT be trying to qualify for a tournament that they are hosting. However, the upshot is that one of the other test teams (whoever is the lowest ranking in T20) should take their place in the qualifying tournament.

Posted by   on (March 16, 2014, 4:41 GMT)

Best of luck to Afghan Team. Bangladesh team( so called tigers) ,please , do not make your fans cry this time at the stadium. Since cricket is the only sport played in Bangladesh with lots of expectation from their fans, it is a big shame for this team with no major success. On the other hand, there are other lots of famous sports played in Afghanistan such as football ,and most of the people in Afghanistan do not have information about this English Game. So, there wont be any pressure whatsoever on Afghanistan ,and they can pull it off easily from those bunch of losers who are usually humiliated by their fans.

@Bangladesh Team Management & Mr. Isam: WHY is Ziaur Rahman not being played in Nasir's position? He is clearly in form now and is capable of taking oppositions bowlers on. He even performs as an opener - he also gave this very team a scare in their last outing - how many more times must management faulter like this?

These Afghan supporters are talking too much, they just own one match against a test playing nation n I guess which was an upset, when the Irish team beat English n Netherlands beat Australia or even keneya went to wc semifinal that times their supporters did spoke that much arrogantly, these Afghan fans doesn't posses any cricket sense. I think agfans will have their ans tomorrow. Still best wishes for them.

@Team_Bangladesh. Hilarious to see some BD fans making fun of Afghan fans for saying things like AFghan will beat BD. Isnt it what you guys do when taking on some of the big teams and then suddenly come up with excuses when you lose. You guys need to start respecting your senior teams before telling this to afghan fans.

Good Luck Afgans! You can make it to the big league this time. You have proved that you are a good team. Beating Bangaladesh is not a problem for you. Just concentrate on batting.Your bowling atack is good as any team in the world. Good luck!!! Make it happen today

Acording to afghana-afghana is no 1 t20 side in the world.the two zadrans are more dangerous than steyn and morkel.nabi is the no 1 allrounder in the world.shenwari and shehzad are more dangerous than afridi and gayle.so bd will loose to afghana.

Bangladesh! you can do it. With your powerful fan support, it won't be that much pressurized situation for you guys.

On the other hand, Afghanistan team you are awesome. You currently possess the most important thing a team should have, that is strong confidence.

Well, congratulations for both teams. Lets start world T20, 2014.

I am so surprised about the comments. to my afghan friends cool down. cricket is a gentleman game, is not about to fighting and killing people. please learn how to respect senior teams. if you guys play better cricket you will get your prize, you might need help from Bangladesh, Pakistan, India etc to improve your game. start to believe that you want to stay here for long time.

Oh Wow, A War Between Two Nations Here. Ziaur Rahman Should Have Been Chosen In The XI. And LOL About Afghanistan Underestimating BD Now That They Upset Them A Couple Of Weeks Ago. This Should Be An Enthralling Match. Also This Format Is Terrible. Should Be The 10 Test Nations And Minimum 2 Associates.

Posted by Bengali-Tiger007 on (March 15, 2014, 23:17 GMT)

The truth is that i do like the afg team, but the fact still remains clear. Afg team is too young and mediocre. Yes they caught BD un prepared. Theres hardly any decent talents in the Afg team and it is unfortunate for them to be in this group. I would have prefered Zim in this group with BD, only then it would have been a fantastic thriller of a group. Ireland and Netherland have alot more to offer and are far more superior compared to Afg. Anyway, thnks for coming to BD, we hope you enjoy shopping in those big malls. All the best!

The tournament is 16 teams. I think it could have been the 8 top nations along with FOUR from the other 8 nations playing qualifiers as 2 groups.

Another thing is the groupings. In T20s, where there is a smaller degree of difference between teams, ranking shouldn't be a strict criterion for seeding.

Groups should be set up to be equally difficult but have the "rivalries" we're use to such as the "IND vs PK" and "the Ashes" as a must in the group stage. This draws out that extra TV Viewership and this also allows the chance of them making the final as a spicy rematch.

Mark you, this one is GOOD but it can be improved. Here's my format below:

1st Stage

Group A: BAN, IRE plus 2 teams (maybe NED & HK)

Group B: ZIM, AFGH plus 2 teams (Maybe NEP & UAE)

2nd Stage

Group one: IND, PAK, SA and NZ plus 2 qualifers

Group two: WI, SL, AUS and ENG plus 2 qualifiers

a few more matches but if scheduled right nobody (players, boards, fans nor organizers) will lose.

i think the reason of tigers' decreasing numbers in the world is you guys call ur team "TIGERS" :-P

I am gunning for an Afghan victory. All best Afghanistan trample the tigers. And stamp your authority all over this world cup.

who will win?

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 21:42 GMT)

@vkias if Bangladesh tour WI there will be a chance for Bangladesh to win series as pitches are favourable for Bangladesh and WI are quite weak especially against spinners. Also its possible they could beat England in England in a few games since England's ODI team is not that good. I see Bangladesh winning tommorow though inshallah and coming 3rd in the super 10s.

Posted by android_user on (March 15, 2014, 21:32 GMT)

@ma_maglum it was funny to read your comment. deep inside you even know its going to be tougher against afghans.. and ur talking about pak.. aus and WI. cricinfo pls publish.

Why Those People Shouting ! Even Afganistan is not better than Ireland. Why These Comparison With BD.YOU Stupid People,BD Beat Australia One's But It not means That BD better Than Ausi.If you want to compare your cricket skills you can compare with Ireland. But My Afgan Frnds I am sorry to say Even Your Skills is much poor than Ireland.

Afghanistan's charismatic pace man Hamid Hassan, one of the most talented and dynamic fast bowler who made quite an impression with his control, late movement and hostility is not participating in the tournament.. He was suffering of an injury to his left knee and not been included in the squad announced for the World T20 championship .Though he has recently returned to fitness but the request of his replacement to the tournament has not been approved by the ICC.

Afghanistan cricket team will miss his absence in this championship and specially in the game Against Bangladesh today. I think Afghanistan pace balling with two Zadrans (Shapoor + Dawlat) is still better than Bangladesh pace balling . The all rounders Gulbuddin Naib, Muhmmad Nabi and Samiullah Shinwari have to play a key role in today match

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 20:16 GMT)

Think Bangladesh are 2nd favorites to win this tournament after Sri Lanka. New Zealand looks in good touch as well. Pakistani bowling and Indian batting looks weaker than ever. There's no question that Afghanistan will surpass Ireland very soon

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 19:25 GMT)

@ zubair, your comment is with "if" . so it means there are conditions on which Afghan can beat BD. Likewise, for BD fans it is the same. If Sakib plays his natural game, If mushfiq is in form and If Tamim blows what Afghan can do? It is T-20 it is hard to make comparison and make a prediction. But, It will be close game for sure. Lets hope we can see some good cricket. lost to Zimbabwe already broke the momentum of Afghans and a comfortable win over Ireland makes it clear Bangladesh will be definitely hard for Afghan.

As a Bangladeshi to me afghan pace balling is better than BD pace balling but to be fair Ziaur Rahman is a good t20 pacer and the best t20 pacer for Bd , however I cant believe he is not selected to play ! Mushfiq captaincy can cause BD lose from a winning position. I really wish someone else were BD captain.

@ Fogu; FYI. This tournament features 16 teams already for the first time in the tournament history (all 10 full members and six associate members who qualified through the 2013 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier).

Posted by Fogu on (March 15, 2014, 18:11 GMT)

The World T20 championship should have been played with 16 nations. This is one way Cricket can become a global game. If so called big teams are so afraid of being upset, at least they should have had 12 team tournament with 10 test playing nation along with associate qualifiers. Nonetheless, BD has the most pressure on them as a host nation. If they play up to potential they will qualify but BCB has made poor team selection by dropping Zia. He is a handy T20 player for BD. AFG is a tough team and few of their players have played in BPL so they have the experience as well. They can easily upset BD. Insha'Allah BD will win and make it to the tournament. Go Tigers!

I am from afg.and it doesn,t matter if we lose tommorow.its been a great achievment for us to play in world cup.still we dont have any international stadium in our country. And something else that none of our national side players are academy products they were amateur cricketers.and now they are trying toward professionalism. Our u19 team recently beat aussies and srilanka in wc.and got 7 position.so clearly it shows that we are improving quickly. And soon we will be favorite to win in big occasions.....

Well, If Mohammad Nabi goes to a fly as it has been mentioned in the article, things will be impossible to Bangladesh. Cause, it has been long that he has not put up a good enough performance for his team & country. One big loss that we will have in this competition is our Fast bowler , Hamid Hassan, this is really going to have a huge impact on the team. But still you just watch, we are going to win Inshallah.

Posted by Dhutugemunu on (March 15, 2014, 17:36 GMT)

@ Giri Jagannathan; The top eight (full member) teams in the ICC T20I Championship rankings on 8 October 2012 enter the Super 10 stage. BD was not featured at Top 8 at that time. Not even today. Why not BD play in the Qualifying round, win the group (if possible) and qualify to show the world they are worthy to feature in Super 10? Why automatic selections for being the Host Nation? Seems like you have no trust on BD team.

Posted by yuvi_gladiator on (March 15, 2014, 17:33 GMT)

Afghanistan bowling is better than half the international sides here including india. if they came somehow find a few good batsman they will be hard to beat. there batting looked a little uncooked in the asia cup, only shenwari looked good.

If Bangladesh win against Afg everybody will say they have beaten just an associate team, it doesn't matter. If they want to prove their they need to beat team like aussi , sa etc and if they loose to afg everybody will say they loose to afg so they don't deserve to be elite group. What a dilemma? Really in twenty and one dayers anybody can beat any one in given day. so win or lose play good cricket and sensible fans will remain supportve to all the time. go bd go

Plz put up stats of Bangladesh when they travel to South Africa, Aus, Eng and NZ and then comment on this - BD is a hopless test side! in ODIs and T20 though I wont rate them like that... but otherwise mate, please wake up!!!

Why Mahmudullah, we need Mominul and Sabbir both in playing XI.

Posted by Rafelgibt on (March 15, 2014, 17:09 GMT)

Come on boys we can do it...My Bangladesh team would be like- 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Anamul Haque, 3 Shamsur Rahman , 4 Shakib Al Hasan , 5 Mushfiqur Rahim (capt & wk), 6 Sabbir Rahman, 7 Mashrafe Mortaza, 8 Mahmudullah, 9 Farhad Reza , 10 Sohag Gaz, 11 Al-Amin Hossain. Team got 7 hard hitting batsmen and 3 pacers and 3 spinners as counted Sabbir as well.

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 16:53 GMT)

If BD play calmly, they can win the tournament. In fact they might be the surprise package. And that's good for Cricket. Afg are doing well too and hope they put up a good show. And the other teams that could make it all the way are Aus, WI, Pak and NZ.

But they should allow 2 teams from each qualifying group - a total of 4 teams - to the main round. Also how is that the home team is not given an automatic slot?

The only useful reason for t20 to be played between counties is that it helps the minnows. They can cause an upset in this format easily. Otherwise T20 should only be a league thing.

my best 11 for d current bd team will be...1.tamim iqbal 2.shamsur rahman 3.anamul haque 4.shakib al hasan 5.mushfiqur rahim 6.nasir hossain 7.sabbir rahman 8.shohag gazi 9.mashrafe mortaza 10.abdur razzak 11.al amin hossain......i think this team is perfect to beat afganistan, altough bd need ziaur rahma.he is more economical n perfect lower order blaster...mahmudullah n farhad reza is totally useless for t20,n instead this two arafat sunny n zia will be more than good.

We just lost few matches, we lost at 11th hour. But i want to ask some question thoese people who are very proud of their so called overrated TEAM INDIA, what did India do at their foreign tour. Did they win any series delibarately. Those who are talking about our test status they are just afraid of our BD Tigers. Wait and see after 4 years our tigers will dominate this cricket world. There is no doubt about that.

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 15:48 GMT)

The biggest mistake Bangladesh already did is not picking Zia ur Rehman for this tournament who is a big hitter..secondly Mortaza who is also a big hit wellcomes to bat after Sohag Ghazi. This two points really matters in T20. Goodluck to BD from India.

Posted by Herath-UK on (March 15, 2014, 15:48 GMT)

It's true BD will have to do well otherwise it will be like others enjoying your grand party but not you. Afg game will be their banana skin but having faced Sri Lanka for a full series & all the 3 big Asian teams in the Asian Cup BD have had the best preparation for the T20 with no excuse. Although it never goes by the book,if I've to pick one, I put my money on one of Sri Lanka Pak or Australia.

Posted by Dr.Hamed on (March 15, 2014, 15:48 GMT)

Every Nation want to win them team, it will be really Do or Die game for both teams. As an Afghan I pray for my team to WIN against BD. and Inshallah We will Win

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 15:47 GMT)

Enthralling isn't it? This is probably the biggest match of the whole tournament. Bangladesh wins and the party is free to roll on, the nation can embrace their team and they will be able to play with freedom. Afghanistan wins and they lay down another marker on their rocketing path up the rankings and more than likely enter into the main draw. In comparison you get the feeling that for whoever wins the final it'll just be another notch in the belt and it won't really live too long in the memory. It's a funny old game!

As for the game itself I really think that a lot depends on the pitch. The faster and bouncier it is the more the Afghans come into it, in my eyes, as I think their seam attack is substantially better than that of the Bangladeshi's, while Bangladesh is probably stronger across all other aspects. This is going to be one heck of a game, good luck to both sides!

Posted by keralite on (March 15, 2014, 15:45 GMT)

An Afghan win would be very good for Cricket in general. But for this tournament to draw more local crowds a Bangla win is necessary. All the best to both sides. Provide us viewers with some good competitive cricket. And to those putting down the Bd team should realise that they have defeated some top teams in their own backyard.

Posted by ramz30380 on (March 15, 2014, 15:41 GMT)

@ Mar Zan - chck the rankings first before u comment on other international sides... All those teams that have less than 100 ratings are fighting for a place to compete against the big boys of cricket...

Bangladesh is placed in the 10th position below Ireland - yes u read it right it is below Ireland - an associate country! If your team's performance was up to it the rating wud have spoken for itself and you wudnt have found urself in this position!

So plz dont blame the ICC but your own players who have been the reason for such a situation.....

Posted by SirViv1973 on (March 15, 2014, 15:33 GMT)

Given that 1st time qualifiers and minnows Hong Kong & Nepal are the other 2 teams in the group BD vs Afg tomorrow looks very much like a winner take all battle. Although I prefer this format to the old one I can't help thinking that as hosts BD should have gone directly in to the super 10 stage. If BD do loose tomorrow they will be effectively eliminated on the first day which cannot be good for the overall event.

Posted by SL_rockz on (March 15, 2014, 15:32 GMT)

I personally believe after i saw the way that Afghanistan hammered BD in last part of ODI in asia cup they are hot favorites to win this one... 20 overs 10 wickets will make Afgan life easy ... So with the fire power they process they will give a tough fight for BD..

Other hand Bd is in a loosing streak... Even lost an ODI against Afgan...So will correctly face a huge pressure ...It will be an added advantage for Afgan...They have nothing to loose but it is a great chance for them to put a giant step forward from associates to permanent status.

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 15:29 GMT)

(Contd) The only way teams like Ire and Afg can get any better is play the better teams. It is no secret that the established teams are not very interested in have any kind of series with the associate teams. The supposed fear of embarrassment on a loss, and the gain of nothing on win means there's nothing for them in it. On the other hand, the only opportunities these teams have to prove themselves is these world events. But alas, the format this year ensures that that is minimized. Let alone HK and Nepal, there's a pretty good chance that neither Ire nor Afg will play in the main event. And that's just sad. What kind of message are you sending to the other associate teams...that no matter how much you try you are not getting anywhere, when the most dominant teams (Ire and Afg and not just better than the other side, they have proved utter dominance at the associate level)

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 15:23 GMT)

i dont really understand the selection of BCB. they picked up farhad reza again nd againg. But for what basis ? And they throw away ziaur rahman inform batsman and t20 specialist. Whats going on in BCB? its not ur team BCB. its the team of 16 cr people. Papon, if u wanna earn some extra money go somethere else and leave us alone please please...

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 15:22 GMT)

Retarded format for the World Cup. Only in cricket does this happen where some teams have a privileged route of entry in a WC while others are go through such dogfights. And then , people wonder why cricket isn't growing beyond the few nations .

Teams like Afg and Ire have done all they could and achieved everything possible at the associate level. Afg, for instance, even has a pretty impressive domestic setup as well whereby something like 50,000 players registered in some team last year alone. You could see that from their U-19 team's performance that beat both Aus and SL recently. Similarly Ire has shown that they can upset any team.

While the critics still argue that these teams need to improve a little more and what not, before they should be given test status, my question to them is how? As I said they have achieved everything a team can possibly do playing at the associate level. The only way they can get any better from here is by playing the better teams, the test teams.

The Afghani team has been phenomenal in recent years, and I have been an ardent follower of the team by their progress.I was particularly impressed by their Asia Cup showing.I will be eagerly anticipating tomorrow's clash that would be of huge significance to both teams:For Afghanistan,it will give a huge boost to the popularity of the game in that country, for Bangladesh it would be a reward for the ardent fans of the team.I would like to believe that none of the teams playing tomorrow is a favorite over the other, and I think both have realistic chances of qualifying to the second round. Both teams are packed with gifted players, and I feel Afghanistan should play more of the big hitters. On the contrary,Bangladesh should pick a balanced side having both youth and experience. In my opinion: Afg:Shahzad,Tarakai,Nabi,Shafiq,Naib,Shinwari,Najib,Shapoor,Dollat,Hotak,Alam Ban:Tamim,Shamsur,Mominul,Mushfiq,Shakib,Nasir,Mahmud,Sabbir,Mashrafe/Al-Amin,Sohag/Reza,Rubel,Razzak

I think that Afghanistan will win tomorrow's match becoz Bangladesh is mediocre team plzz ICC get back there test status, meaningless. And if any how they will manage to win tomorrow then in group stage matche Indian team shows them mirror. Indian team is the strongest team in this WC T20 more stronger than Australia. I think only team who is going to win this WC is India no one else coz if we are stronger than Aussies or WI than who are others

Since only one of the 4 teams (Afghan, BD, HK and Nepal) will qualify, this will be a do or die match for both. As rightly projected by Afghan coach BD will be under tremendous pressure against Afghans tomorrow. Sometimes the pressure brings out the best in the players, and Mushfiqur will surely hope that his team plays the game of their lives, especially after his 'Revenge' statement. If Afghans stick to the basics, they may just walk away with the game. BD team lately has been fancying their chances batting first. Their loss to Afghans chasing may have been the reason for this. They stand a better chance Chasing both in T20 and ODI as batting is their strength. If they opt to bat first again tomorrow, then we can see an Afghan Victory yet again. But if BD is chasing, and they manage to hold on to their nerves, then it will be BD all the way. May the best team win. Cheers!

One thing just I don't understand is it a cricket match or war between nations? To the BD supporters, what really would happen if BD lose tomorrow? Will it be the end of the world? To the BD haters why u people are so eager to see BD win a world cup or a major? Are all the teams will have to be like Sri Lanka to prove their worth? Is ICC trying to make the game of cricket so competitive that whenever a team gets test status they will have to win everything? Grow up, see how world of football is going around. There are numerous teams who did not win anything but still playing and participating in World Cup. They are just representing their nations by way of playing a world sports. We the BD supporters love to see our boys play and will be supporting them always. No stone throwing, no sledging...hope haters got it. Best of luck to Bangladesh Cricket Team.

The way AFG supporters and BD HATERS are commenting here sounds like AFG has already won multiple world cups, and BD just started playing cricket, they have been playing cricket for last 14 years, and once in a while upsets happens, NOT a big deal. But if you are around for 14 years it is expected to play better cricket which BD has failed recently no doubt bout it, but the funny thing is, AFG players are even underestimating BD which will cost them the match, and they will be thrashed so bad in the opening game. Yes, they have beaten BD in ASIA cup but without BD's top three players plus it is obvious that BD will still win this match without anything to concern. Other thing to consider which is AFG's performance in Asia cup was really bad except winning with BD. Besides, they lost practice match with Zimbabwe. nuf said, hoping for the best for both teams.

Hopefully we'll this 11 from BD:- Tamim, Shamsur, Anamul, Shakib, Rahim, Nasir, Sabbir, Gazi, Reza, Mashrafe and Al-Amin or Rubel.

3 out of 4 team got bonus points playing against afganisthan in Asia cup except Bangladesh !!

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 13:14 GMT)

I am a bangladeshi and i dont want to say something against Afghanistan. I know we have lots of pressure right now but that dosent mean that Afghanistan is better than Bangladesh. they won against us in asia cup ,that was the only one success what they got in asia cup.The performence of Afghanistan in another games in asia cup was really concerning. You people has to learn to show some respect.I will pray for my Team and lets See what happen tomorrow. Offcourse Allah knows Better, what is good for us!

Posted by vkumar_086 on (March 15, 2014, 13:12 GMT)

@wapuser...your comments are not telling that which team you support..once you pray for Afghan to win and another time Go Tiger Go....it seems you support the team which will win on the match day....

Posted by android_user on (March 15, 2014, 13:03 GMT)

We won't forgive any of bd player if they don't qualified for main stage in icc t20 world cup . we didn't say anything while you losing against Afghanistan in Asia cup but if same thing is happen this time it will very costly . in sha Allah we will win .

Posted by android_user on (March 15, 2014, 13:00 GMT)

I think anyone can win tomorrow . it was really bad decisions from icc that keep a qualifying round for associate team . can you believe that in any sports host team have to qualify for main tournament . its so much shameful decision by icc . imagine if bd lose tomorrow than it will all over this tournament as well . this qualifying round should be for all team including India . Australia . but those countries will never let it happen . I want to see a equal balance tournament . I am a bd supporter and ready disagree with icc decision . if you put India in same situation what bangladesh is facing about qualifying . I don't think India even can qualified because they would be in under pressure . go tiger go . we will always with u .

i hope shahzad not play , and he must dorp from the team

Posted by Mujahid22 on (March 15, 2014, 12:43 GMT)

Some bangalies say that Bangladish will win easily? but i think bangladish will lose easily. even nepal and hongkong will beat bangladish.

Posted by Mujahid22 on (March 15, 2014, 12:39 GMT)

AFG has a strong t20 batting and bowling line so Afghanistan will win inshaALLAH.

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 12:38 GMT)

FOR AFG T20 TEAM 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Anamul Haque, 3 Shakib Al Hasan, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (capt & wk),Sabbir Rahman, 6 Nasir Hossain, 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Sohag Gazi, 9 Mashrafe Mortaza 10 Al-Amin Hossain 11 Rubel Hossain ONLY ONE MISS WITH OUT ZIA THIS IS NOT A T20 TEAM, SHAME FOR ALL SELECTOR & CAPT MUSHFIQUE

Posted by DauD_ on (March 15, 2014, 12:20 GMT)

I see a lot of arrogance from the bangladeshi fans around here. They have been playing cricket for many decades, yet they still get thrashed by associates and affiliate teams who have only been playing for a few years. Bangladesh are minnows, Afghanistan are much more talented. They look like proper and hungry cricketers. The Bangladeshi cricketers look more like school kids, no disrespect but I predict Afghanistan to thrash Bangladesh tomorrow. Tamim and Shakib are so overrated that it's funny.

Posted by MeijiMura on (March 15, 2014, 12:19 GMT)

Bangladesh played really well to beat Ireland so convincingly in their last warm-up game prior to the start of the qualifiers and Rahim and Shakib played out of their skins as theirs was the partnership that won them the game. Afghanistan also played really well and in their narrow loss to Zimbabwe they rested four of their best players (two batsmen and two bowlers) and Hamilton Masakadza played the innings of his life and yet Afghanistan still came within an over of winning the game. A full-strength Afghanistan that will be on show against Bangladesh will be harder to beat and Bangladesh will need Rahim and Shakib to perform just like they did against Ireland if they want to beat them. I'm looking forward to it as that game looks like it will be a cracker and once again all the pressure will be on Bangladesh as the home team with a place in a home-based tournament on the line. They've got everything to play for and everything to lose. Afghanistan and Hong Kong are tough opponents.

Posted by Ozcricketwriter on (March 15, 2014, 12:19 GMT)

If Bangladesh lose this, they are out of the tournament, which they are hosting, which is absolutely shameful. Yet Afghanistan is a strong side so it is no shame to lose to them. Bottom line is that Bangladesh have to treat this as a final. They need to play at their absolute best and treat a victory here as if they have won a major tournament. They are capable of winning and at home should win. But any relaxation whatsoever and they will lose. And Bangladesh simply cannot lose this. They must win, at all costs. Whatever they do beyond this match in the tournament is a bonus. But they must win this match.

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 12:15 GMT)

Shakib and Tamim's return definitely has bolstered Bangladesh's line-up as well as the team spirit, and so have the perfect results (2 out of 2) in the warm up games, especially the one with Ireland. Afghanistan is also flying high after a reasonably good Asia Cup this year, having already beat Bangladesh. Obviously my money would be on Bangladesh, being a native supporter, but all the same I would love a cracking contest between these two teams. Good luck Bangladesh; hope you win! Good luck to Afghanistan too!

Posted by asiacricket1234 on (March 15, 2014, 11:47 GMT)

I don't know who is gonna win tomorrow. To be honest if Afghanistan can beat us in ODI they can beat us in T20 too and we are in awful form at the moment. Anyway Good Luck Bangladesh Hope they will win.One thing for sure that Afghanistan will be the most popular cricket team tomorrow because they have supports of Indo-Pak fans tomorrow so enjoy it. No doubt that as a team they have improve really fast and doing a great job out there.

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 11:38 GMT)

I want BD to play against my team England. But sorry to say , BD will not qualify for super ten , Afghanistan is way better than BD in every sense . Honestly what is purpose of Shakib when BD can not win against any team .

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 11:29 GMT)

Bangladesh have experience to their advantage...if the Afghanistan play like they have nothing to lose and Put Bangladesh in a bit of pressure early on then we have a match on hand.

Posted by espncricinfomobile on (March 15, 2014, 11:26 GMT)

This match seems like final !! the more BD have advantage the more the under pressure too. They have to make sure their supporters and world that's the big problems for them. But Afghans only wanna show their ability and enjoying the game. Afghan players beside have good bowling attack have great and huge shots stamina as well in this patch it's important and they have to registered more sixes. Otherwise BD is more experienced team and more stronger then Afghanistan. All the very very best my Afghan Heroes

Posted by ma_maglin on (March 15, 2014, 11:20 GMT)

hahaha... everyone looking for This match... I am looking for 2nd round... Bangladesh should win by 40+ run or 7-8 wickets... So don't worry... In 2nd round Bangladesh should beat India, pakistan & WI... inshallah

Posted by i_golam on (March 15, 2014, 11:18 GMT)

BD will win this easy cause of their big match rutin which is better then AFG ! ... & they will have better chance cause of Shakib & it is obvious !!

Posted by wapuser on (March 15, 2014, 11:09 GMT)

I guess people forgot we beat newzeland 5-0, 4-0 twice!! Plus last year finalist beating Mighty India !! So don't underestimate us !! We played the game without the services of sakib , tamim n mashrafee. Whit they on board Afghanistan don't have any chance. Hope for a good match n Bangladesh will surely beat them . Go tigers !! Go Bangladesh !!! Show the world !!

Posted by scorpion4u on (March 15, 2014, 10:45 GMT)

It will be so tough game for both Countries Afghanistan v Bangladesh, it will be so enjoyable game as in last game there was no Gul Badin Naib, Najeeb Taraki and Bangladesh team there was no Tamim Iqbal, Shakib ul Hassan, I think it will be good and favorite game.

Posted by siddhartha87 on (March 15, 2014, 10:35 GMT)

Should be an easy win for Afghanistan.Bangladesh team a complete failure in all aspects of the game. A few wins or narrow losses against top teams and BD can get a test status..oh wait

Posted by wapuser on (March 15, 2014, 10:33 GMT)

InshaaAllah afghanistan will beat bangladesh again like bakhtiar khilji conquerred bangal with 17 men

Posted by METALMONSTER on (March 15, 2014, 10:28 GMT)

@ James Blunt:

I think my friend here forgot that BD whitewashed New Zealand in two consecutive series. People should know the facts before posting comments.

When BD will win tomorrow,James blunt won't be singing any more. Guess what 16 crore Bangladeshis will be doing.

GO TIGERS.

Posted by SamWintson92 on (March 15, 2014, 10:22 GMT)

@ boss.mamun: Surprisingly Ziaur hasn't been selected for this WT20. I would have definitely had him in place of Reza who has no such T20 stats to warrant a place in the squad. Ziaur can clear the fence & can bowl handy seam.

Posted by LionsofLanka on (March 15, 2014, 10:17 GMT)

BD's defeat is on the card tomorrow with huge net run-rate deficit of 1.5 .

Posted by blthndr on (March 15, 2014, 10:11 GMT)

its more like a final match....winner will have the best chance to qualify....

Posted by boss.mamun on (March 15, 2014, 10:09 GMT)

no chances for Afghan. can't wait to take revenge. go tigers go. show your claw.

Posted by Jadejafan on (March 15, 2014, 10:07 GMT)

We should beat BD easily again. Their team is is low on confidence and play like club cricketers. Can't wait when the main round begins so we can challenge and beat proper teams like Australia.

Posted by Mr.Blacksmith on (March 15, 2014, 10:07 GMT)

May the Best one will win but Personally! i want BD to get in main round. Best of Luck Bangladesh. Go and just win because your win is more important to this tournament. Cheers Bangladesh

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 10:03 GMT)

If Afgan beat BD tomorrow it wan't be an upset. If BD Eliminate in qualifying round we will see all the matches play without significant crowd.

Posted by boss.mamun on (March 15, 2014, 9:58 GMT)

my best Xl, 1.tamim 2. anamul 3.shamsur 4.Sakib 5.mushi 6.nasir 7.ziaur 8.mashrafi 9.Gazi 10.razzak 11.Rubel

Posted by ramz30380 on (March 15, 2014, 9:54 GMT)

This is T20, anything is possible - on paper BD looks like a strong team. Though Tamim's entry will bolster the side, he is short of match practice... anyone can win this game - Afganistan has shown exceptional brilliance in the Asia Cup - they have been training in BD for sometime now... expexting a cracker of a game!

Posted by bangladesh_blaster on (March 15, 2014, 9:54 GMT)

Bangladesh will win. With shohag, tamim , sakib, mashrafi bangladesh is fair bit stronger than Afgan. They need to believe in themselves, whatever happened in ODIs is past, T20 is a different game. I believe Bangladesh will be in the semis and after that who knows.

Posted by MAN_AT_WORK on (March 15, 2014, 9:54 GMT)

@James Blunt can you sing a song if Afganisthan win against Bangladesh ?

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 9:53 GMT)

@Shukoor Hadi, Nice comments on percentage!! please add this also: "against Nepal 25% potential and against Hongkong, 0%... don't play at all!!!LOL...LOL

Posted by qazi255 on (March 15, 2014, 9:44 GMT)

There is no chance of winning for Afghanistan . I bet guys this time BD will win T20 World Cup no one can stop us .

Posted by Bdcricketdebator on (March 15, 2014, 9:38 GMT)

If bangladesh wants to do really well in this tournament they should select this 11-tamim bijoy sabbir mushi sakib nasir riad reza. razzak al amin mash.i will select reza for his death overs yorkers.and handy batting down order.

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 9:34 GMT)

I am have been following BD team for some-while, even-though Bangladesh play good cricket but they are always criticized if they are not competitive while they really are, in Asia Cup setting 327 target for Pakistan everyone here in Afghanistan everyone predicted that Bangladesh would be the winning side, but BD LACK LUCK, otherwise they play fantastic game they got talent to beat any team if they get the LUCK.

Tomorrow I am just gonna watch and enjoy the match between Afghan Heroes and Bangla Tigers.

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 9:34 GMT)

What a PREVIEW!! ISAM bhai, you are really something!!!! Hats off!!

Lets come to the point, ALL THE BEST TIGERS..!!!!! Guys spread it, #LetsCheerForTigers .

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 9:31 GMT)

Afghan won against must stronger team like Newzeland.. So i am dam sure tht they will win this match also... Further, it is my expectation or prediction that BD will lose all matches here also.

Posted by android_user on (March 15, 2014, 9:31 GMT)

if bangladesh can play their normal natural game and left their tension in the dressing room..they must win and they should.Bangladesh should not count Afgan as a threat.best of luck Bangladesh.. think big from this event.

Posted by android_user on (March 15, 2014, 9:30 GMT)

afghan will hava an edge..

Posted by Bdcricketdebator on (March 15, 2014, 9:28 GMT)

@DauD_i am tired of hearing about physical strenthes.do u think it is a football match?cricket is more for skills and teachnique.physical only matters in fast bowling for increasing speed.i dont know u know anything about cricket.

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 9:27 GMT)

@sporso, come on, I have not seen any team to set percentage of potential, Ok we play Afghanistan let's utilize 50% of potential, oh we are playing Pakistan let's use 80% of our potential, Oh no it is Sri Lanka let's borrow some potential and use 130%, sounds funny to me I don't know about others.

Posted by LALITHKURUWITA on (March 15, 2014, 9:10 GMT)

Wish both teams and looking forward to see last ball win.

Posted by android_user on (March 15, 2014, 9:08 GMT)

Afghanistan is not a good good cricket playing country ....Bd is strong Team and Insahallah we hope they will come back very strongly. .

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 9:07 GMT)

There are no reason for Bangladesh loss. I think Bangladesh has good potential in this event coz b4 officeal opener of WT20 they would have played 5 match... this will be good advantage in know environment

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 9:06 GMT)

I am Bangladeshi and am very excited to see Afghanistan improving everyday. I truly want them to become a real force in international cricket. But what disgusts me is Afghan supporters' brazen audacity. They beat Bangladesh just once (which was a slip on a banana skin) and have started showing zero respect for a team which is obviouslyy better than them in all departments! C'mon Afghan supporters...support your team blindly but also be respectful to those who deserve it.

Posted by mdarifurrahmandany on (March 15, 2014, 9:04 GMT)

If bang ply seriously they can win.

Posted by Matadore on (March 15, 2014, 9:01 GMT)

This time its a full strength bangladesh... nd if AFG beat this bd now then i'd like 2 afg is better than them.... (last time i guess they missed their key players sakib, tamim, mashrafi) hoping 4 a gd match

Posted by sporso on (March 15, 2014, 8:45 GMT)

I can't see any hope for Afghanistan if BD could play 50%of their potential.

Posted by SamWintson92 on (March 15, 2014, 8:43 GMT)

BAN XI: (No Farhad Reza & Rubel Hossain please, go for a batting strong XI)

1 Tamim 2 Anamul 3 Shakib 4 Mushfiqur (C+WK) 5 Nasir 6 Mominul 7 Sabbir 8 Mahmudullah 9 Mashrafe 10 Razzak 11 Al-Amin

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 8:40 GMT)

haha BD will lose this one also :)

Posted by   on (March 15, 2014, 8:23 GMT)

if Moh. Shehzad can give that explosive start to Afg ,I am sure Ban will get under even more pressure... Afghanistan t-twenty squad is really dangerous this time... But I think if Ban play as a mature team and use their experience, i think beating Afghanistan will not be impossible.....

Posted by DauD_ on (March 15, 2014, 8:15 GMT)

Afghanistan will win this. They are much more talented than Bangladesh, and by now we'd hope that they have become familiar with the conditions in Bangladesh. The Afghans are naturally well built and physically strong, those attributes come in handy in t20 cricket.
