Bangladesh scent World T20 main draw

Match Facts

Start time 1930 local (1330 GMT)

Big Picture

Bangladesh have somewhat turned around their form in 2014, putting together three wins in a row in the last week. All three may have come against Associate Nations, but the last of those victories was necessary from the point of view of staying alive in the World T20. Their second game of Group A, against Nepal, will be yet another chance to reinstate the confidence within the team, and ensure a smooth passage to the main draw.

For Nepal however, the game against Bangladesh is what they have worked so hard for in the last 18 years. This is their first ever international match against a Test-playing nation, and one can only imagine how much they will be raring to have a crack at the hosts.

From their big win against Hong Kong on Sunday night, it became evident that their main batsmen and bowlers have the capacity to be mentally strong enough when they have to stand up. Gyanendra Malla and captain Paras Khadka added 80 runs for the third wicket, which recovered the innings from an iffy 36 for 2 to a strong 116 for 3.

Nepal would however look forward to Subash Khakurel and Sagar Pun to get them a better start, while Binod Bhandari and Sharad Vesawkar will be expected to push on a bit faster when their batting opportunities come. Nepal's bowling was great to watch too, particularly how well Khadka and Sompal Kami started with the new ball. Shakti Gauchan and Basant Regmi, the team's left-arm spinners, gave a good account of themselves as well.

One would expect Bangladesh to do well against left-arm spinners as well as a generally inexperienced attack. This could be one of the last few opportunities for their batsmen to gain a good habit of identifying areas in which they can keep hitting and finding boundaries. More importantly, Mushfiqur would want his top order to do the whole job, particularly Anamul Haque who has looked in good touch but seems to struggle to build on from a good innings.

Bangladesh's bowling too can push on, particularly the pace bowlers who racked up an impressive number of dot balls. They should bowl similarly against Nepal, but at the same time realise that T20 cricket is all about bowling good overs and not spells. Al-Amin Hossain bowled one poor over against Afghanistan and didn't get a bowl thereafter, so the attack would try to avoid such mishaps.

Nepal, however, are playing to create that mishap.

Watch out for

Shakib Al Hasan will once again have the spotlight around him, having won the Man-of-the-Match award against Afghanistan. This was his first such award in almost a year, and with a central batting role in T20s, he will be expected to do even better against Nepal.

Shakti Gauchan bowled four fantastic overs and will be one to look out for from the Nepal line-up. His celebrations of wicket - said to inspired by footballers' goal celebrations- are also worth watching.

Team news

Mushfiqur has said he wouldn't like to change around too much as this match could confirm their berth to the next round. In any case, Mashrafe Mortaza and Tamim Iqbal will be monitored for their injuries.

Bangladesh (possible): 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Anamul Haque, 3 Shakib Al Hasan, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (capt & wk), 5 Sabbir Rahman, 6 Nasir Hossain, 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Farhad Reza, 9 Mashrafe Mortaza, 10 Abdur Razzak, 11 Al-Amin Hossain

Nepal have sounded positive about their team, and are likely to go with the tried and tested.

Nepal (possible): 1 Sagar Pun, 2 Subash Khakurel (wk), 3 Gyanendra Malla, 4 Paras Khadka (capt), 5 Binod Bhandari, 6 Sharad Vesawkar, 7 Naresh Budayair, 8 Basant Regmi, 9 Shakti Gauchan, 10 Sompal Kami, 11 Jitendra Mukhiya

Pitch and conditions

The Chittagong wicket has historically been a featherbed and is likely to be slow. It won't be as bouncy as the Mirpur wicket, so more runs can be expected. The weather is quite hot, so there will be a chance of some dew in the evening game.

Stats and trivia

  • Gyanendra Malla hasn't scored a T20 fifty yet.

  • Bangladesh have won 6 out of 9 T20 international matches against Associate Nations.

    Quotes

"I have seen some of their matches on Youtube. But we should think of how we can improve our cricket rather than what they will do. If we can improve, we won't have much of a problem."

Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan on Nepal.

"There will be some section of people [cheering us], we had very good crowd support today, so we will be only hearing the Nepali supporters, not the Bangladeshi supporters."

Nepal captain Paras Khadka is banking on his team's fan following to spur the players on

@byc89: Really? How about India? Took 20 years to win their first match, on home soil, against a C team from England that featured 7 debutants? 7 Debutants, most of them never played for England after that shameful loss to a lousy Indian team. How about NZ? Took them 35 years to win their first test match. And you are claiming BD has worse history than any other test playing nation? Know the facts before making a statement!!!

Biju...what you will say now. We are too tough to handle specially Shakib. Remember he is no 1 all rounder. U don't have anyone like Shakib and Tamim. What you need is more exposure and surely one day you will be like us. Years back we were like you guys. It will take time. You guys have some good talents. They will bring good results soon. Face the reality man. Results do not come in a day. We are not consistent in tests but we are good in ODI and T20. You guys can't compare yourself with us. Need more time. This is a harsh reality.

Bangladesh are still languishing at the 9th or the 10th spot in the test, ODI and T20 rankings. In some places below Ireland and Zimbabwe. I don't think in the last 14 years of their test history have they ever gone above that ranking.

    • POSTED BY byc89 on | March 18, 2014, 11:54 GMT

@vkias...you are mentioning the result of all tests, one days and T-20's combined. If we consider only test performance, Bangladesh have won 4 test matches out of 83 played in these 14 years out of which 2 are against WI and other 2 wins against Zimbabwe and none against any other teams.

    • POSTED BY on | March 18, 2014, 11:49 GMT

Nepal knew all the players playing style, but do Bangladesh know???? This puts Bangladesh into the cloud

feeling proud for Nepal, great match against Hongkong. keep this sprite. And Bangladesh should continue their performance to enter in to the 2nd round... We need two wins now, and after that the real game will be on...

BD are a good team. They are also a dangerous team in ICC tournaments, having proven that time and again by beating most of the other 'big' teams. Nepal should go out and play brave cricket. They have won hearts and minds here. But I do not see them causing an upset by beating BD.

    • POSTED BY vkumar_086 on | March 18, 2014, 11:14 GMT

@ Oracle_Magus...i have checked the link which you provided....your teams' performance is awesome against Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ireland, WI, NZ.....but even after 14 years of test status, you won only 3 tests against India (out of 33), 4 tests against SL (out of 50), 2 against England (out of 21), 1 against Australia (out of 24), 1 against Pak (out of 45), 1 against SA (out of 23)....i was wandering why people are asking about reverting of test status from Bangla, now i understood it.....hey congrats you achieved 100% against Netherlands, Canada

Some of the Bangladesh fans are saying here that they have played just 14 years of cricket and others have played many more. What they do not say is that there performance in these 14 years is much worse than any other team's first 14 year performance.

I think Nepal will do best for there historic match against test playing nation, Bangladesh. It will be great to watch battle against Bangladesh. We are here in Nepal to celebrate with you Nepali team. This is time for Nepal Bangladesh ...........

As our Captain Fantastic said before the start of tourney, we're there to endorse ourselves . Literature has got limitations on explaining the way we did against Hong Kong. Being part of such big stage is already a massive achievement. Everything we pluck from here on is a bonus. Win Lose our Tie, we'll support our team till we die! So lads, don't worry back home...You people are already Heroes. Celebrations have already begun. Go ahead and express yourselves. Result is casual here. Just keep up the 'Gorkhali' spirit & don't give up the fight. #AayoGorkhali

To all AFG and Nepali freinds : Pls hold your nerve. How far you already came, to see this I am very much proud of you. I think Bangladesh cricket team is a very poor and weaker team than your AFG and Nepal. Why they are playing in this level ? yeh to bahut sochne ki baat hai. ICC shuld promoted AFG and Nepal and shuld give them both test status. Now you AFG & Nepali Fans are Happy......

Bangladesh is number 9 in One day status and number 10 in T20. How can they got it ? May be it happened unearthly !!!!! Now AFG and Nepalese what u gonna do now. ICC shuld thoroughly inspect this.....

I am very surprised, dishurted and bit ashamed to see such irrespective comments from you guys. What you thinking about your team is not wrong but u totally not giving any credit to BD cricket team...How cheap u r ?? Afgahan players already played in our BPL and other tournaments also...who gave them the chance I should ask them look that what reply you are getting from Afghans ...shame..shame

Please find the BD team performance against every opposition in the following cricinfo link.

      http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=11;team=25;template=results;type=team;view=opposition

Please note that BD team has managed to win with all test playing nations. Being younger compared to the remaining test playing nations, they have come up a long way and now asks a question every time they play with the bigger team. They are on the upward curve and will surely challenge every team in Group A, especially since they are playing on their home turf.

Nepal is an associate nation. Today gonna be a test against the test nation. Bangladesh is a strong appoinent, it have spend 14 years in top flight of cricket i.e full member(test playing nation). We just started playing cricket 12 years back. Now here we are. We climb up in short period of time ourselves with the hard work and determination of players and coach. We need to give our best to win the match. Boys play with all the spirit you got. Winning and losing is the part of game. Do your best. Hope we win otherwise atleast earn some respect. Jay NEPAL

In order to display some good shows against the top teams, BD shouldn't take Nepal lightly but should win this game as easily as against Afghan. Tigers played their natural game in the last match after a while, so they didn't fail any depart. The same should continue throughout the tournament. BD players often make some silly and stupid mistakes and pay for them costly. Playing with similar confidence and attitude in Asia Cup two years ago was another good example. One other thing I don't understand why selectors didn't form a best team like below. This sort of team can be very hard to beat as the team is full of allrounders. 1.Tamim Iqbal 2. Anamul Haque 3. Shakib Al Hasan 4. Mishfiqur Rahim 5. Nasir Hossain 6. Mominul Haque 7. Mahmudullah 8. Ziaur Rahman 9. Sohag Gazi 10. Mashrafe Mortaza 11. Abdur Razzak/Rubel Hossain. I believe Ziaur can be the best choice for T20 as a team needs a hard-hitter like him in the lower order while Mominul is experienced, compared with Sabbir & Farhad

All the Bangladeshi fans commenting here predicting your victory over Nepal, are being over reactive. I can only assume that this was their attitude against Afghanistan in the Asia cup. We all know what happened next. Similarly you are now becoming complacent about your victory with Nepal even before the game has started. You may win today's game and also perhaps the game with HK but your team is definitely gonna go win less in the super 10 league. 14 years as a test playing nation and you still don't have a major tournament victory in ODI's or T20's. And here you are biting everyone's head off trying to convince everyone how great your team is. Records speak for themselves people. After 14 years of test status all you can ever say is that we have won at least one game against every test side. in international cricket that's not good enough. These are your records. ODI's W/L - 80/200 and T20 W/L - 10/24. And BD made their one day debut in 1986. What grounds does your arguments stand on

winner is not decided till the last bowl is bowled in cricket. today's game is most imp game in the history of nepal.last game played by nepal showed it's capability to be in top 10 but bangladesh is a tough competitor for nepal. We can hope for nepaese batsman to score as much as they can and bowlers will do the rest. LOOKING AT HISTORY GORKHALI HAS ALWAYS GAVE THEIR BEST SO TODAY'S MATCH CANNOT BE PREDICTED TILL ONE TEAM WINS THE GAME. AYO GORKHALI!!!!

Afghans will take its revenge one day.... luck was on your side this time but not always will luck help you.... Afghanistan team has been punished by the cricket board for displaying such an unprofessional cricket but they can beat you physically weak players any time.... hope we face once again in future....

We Nepali are Watching Bangladdesh in TV for many of years. and we know about how they bowl and bat. But i think,They have not see how we bat and bowl much enough. so If we work hard, there is no such a things that can stop us from winning.

    • POSTED BY on | March 18, 2014, 9:06 GMT

Nepal is a good team, they can easily beat India 5 out of 5 times. Bangladesh is still out of their reach, so they should try to play with india, a similar strength team. Anyway in a T20 game anything can happen, but beating BD is highly unlikely - still not impossible. ICC should include India in these associate group so that teams like Nepal can win comfortably and boost up confidence. good luck to both team - BD and Nepal.

    • POSTED BY nepalibahadur on | March 18, 2014, 8:32 GMT

Yes it is true Nepal may not fly high overnight to this level, but one should not forget Bangladesh is not come up to this lever overnight, they have tremendous loosing records after gaining test status. it is after a decade they just began winning that also against low rank team Likewise Nepal is playing and working hard since 12 years for comming to this level. So a bit weekness of Nepal is its experience otherwise they are by no means weaker than any so called biggies. So All the Best to Nepal, at least NEPAL is here to compete with fighting spirit , Jai Nepal !!!

    • POSTED BY on | March 18, 2014, 8:31 GMT

I like team Nepal! Especially the way their top order batted against Hong Kong! Those batters only went for the bad balls which is a very good sign for Nepal cricket! I wish them all the best even though I know for a fact that they will succomb to our lefties! Good Luck Nepal! waiting to see some world class performance from you guys!

Either of Nepal or Afghans go through to the main championship as both looks stronger than Hk. BD used their trump card against Afghans in last match with choice of spin wicket(under prepared pitch). If they repeat here then it would be biggest mistake committed by them. Nepal looks fast learning cricket team. I won't be surprised if Nepal beat BD convincingly today. It will be magic moment for the entire BD team to watch this mega event from the stands & on TV with their home fans rather than playing on ground. Nepal should use long handle to dispatch BD attack for maximum. Shakti Gauchan can rip through these paper tigers to get valuable win for his team which will be mesmerized in years after years in Nepal History.

      Get, Set, Go......Nepal..............

    • POSTED BY keralite on | March 18, 2014, 8:14 GMT

Should be an easy win for Bangladesh. Nepal is very passionate about their cricket but they are still not upto Intenational standard. They should think of this as just an opportunity to play against a test nation and give their hundred percent. But having said that if Nepal can somehow conjure up a victory then this group matches will get very exciting. All the best to Nepal.

It will be a great opportunity for the Nepal team to play with an established team today. Though they have provided us good entertainment against HK, we cannot look much into that result and expect any miracle here. The only way BD can loose this match is if they take Nepal lightly, but after their Asia Cup experience, this is never going to happen again. Nepal on the other hand should just stick to the basics. They are a brave group of boys and will put up a good fight, so it will be an interesting match, but BD will always be the favourites. Cheers!

    • POSTED BY on | March 18, 2014, 7:53 GMT

I have been following BD cricket since 1996 and these kind of argument making no sense. Bangladesh is a test playing nation and they are getting more exposure then the associates. And also everyone need to understand their limit. Bangladesh can beat Australia/India once but they are still better than us. My point is simple lets enjoy the game without hurting others.

its all about hard work and luck. One over can change the game. I know Bangladesh is a Test Playing Nation. We have seen low scoring games. Nepalese do have potentials to upset others. They have quality in performance too n have learnt the skill to ball and bat. Let the bat and ball speaks. Best of luck for Bangladesh hope you will not forget this match ever. Fellow Bangladeshis, I hope you realize that some people are posting comments here against Bangladesh just to rile us up. These folks are not Afghans or Nepalese and as such do not have any vested interest in these games. they are just here to toy with our emotions. And the sad thing is we are providing them entertainment by getting offended and replying to them.

I suggest we stay quiet and let our team do the talking with bat and ball. Let's pray we win a berth into the Super 10 and then prove our mettle by beating some heavyweights. That I believe will be the best reply to all these anonymous critics, or as we say it in bangla "uchit shikkha".

As for the game against Nepal in a few hours, I sincerely wish our boys come prepared for the task at hand. Nepalese have been very professional and exciting to watch. Hope it's a cracker of a match but Bangladesh come away the victor.

For all Nepali brothers, Bangladesh is not a big team neither a great team. they ranked bottom of the table in all formats including Tests, T20 and ODI rankings. actually they are Minnows, little bit higher than an Associate team. so Nepal definitely have chance to beat Bangladesh.

Real top ranked top class teams are SL, Ind, Pak, Aus, SA, Nz, Eng, WI. if you wanna play against these brilliant teams you definitely have to qualify for main event. i hope you guys will able to do that. wish you all the best Nepal

@sssugat, first of all congratulations to you for getting a chance to write in the espncricinfo.com at last since your team is playing and secondly Nepal getting a chance to play against a Test playing nation. I think you guys should cherish these two monumental aspects rather jump on Bangladesh's status and ability. Cricket followers know what BD's abilities and that's why we are playing against Nepal. Its bad luck for us but good for you. The time when we were associates, we hardly had a chance like you where we could play against a test playing nation. Try support your own team rather getting jealous of our team....

This is definitely an opportunity for Nepalese Team to perform better with team like BD. It's also fact the Nepal has reached here because they have performed better day by day...Playing with test playing Nation would teach Nepalese team, and of course you can't do magic in cricket overnight, takes time, learn day by day and perform better. For Nepal, performing better with Test Playing Nation and giving decent target is important - that's how you do progress!!! Love you Nepalese Team.

@reyme: Brother, Wake up from your dream. I don't know which country or planet you belong to, certainly not this one as you have put Ireland, Afghanistan and Nepal in the same league with other test playing countries excluding other test playing countries. Check your facts again. May be Ireland among these three teams have shown the most significant progress, not sure about the Afg (one match wonder? Fluke? may be) and Nepal (!?!don't know what to say) team. But this doesn't make them a top tier country. Look at the Kenya team. They were the semi finalist of 2003 world cup but they have vanished from the top international arena now. So please look before you leap.......

    • POSTED BY on | March 18, 2014, 5:39 GMT

I am wishing good luck to Nepal but optimism should be backed by some degree of realism. Even if Nepal play out of their skin, it is going take a mammoth BD mistake for Nepal to win. So, if you are really wishing for Nepal's victory wish for a highest degree of bad performance from BD and that is the only realistic way. Before jumping high on enthusiasm just have a look at Mushfique, Tamim and Sakib's recent and past records. Anyone of these player is enough to destroy Nepal's attack and score more than 9/over. Spewing words wont make your team strong but realistic and consistent support will. We did it and still doing it for our BD team and you Nepali fan should do it too. Do not take hard on yourself and have watery eyes at the end of the match. Cricket is slow building process and if you try to fly too high too soon, you will just get burned.

    • POSTED BY on | March 18, 2014, 5:15 GMT

I know bangladesh is a good team but Nepal has a good bowlers and if one of our batsman hit half century today,,....nepal will sure win and will go to the next round because of higher run rate even nepal will lose to Afganistan.

So best of luck for my country........

    • POSTED BY reyme on | March 18, 2014, 5:14 GMT

@sssugat: Bulls eye mate! Yes, BD are an insult in Test arena. BD should be playing with the associates only. I noticed BD just drew 2 test series with NZ, drew 2 out of 4 Tests against Srilnka, and somehow managed to beat ZIM 1-0 in ZIM in test series. Somehow BD also beat West Indies couple years ago in WI 2-0. So I like the idea where BD should be playing in the World Cricket League Divisions league with West Indies, Srilanka, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, USA, Russia and Ukraine. Top 8 elite tier should be consists of India, Afganistan, Nepal, Ireland, Pakistan, South Africa, Australia and England. AFG has the best pacers at the moment so it will be be a very good contest between Australia and Afganistan. AFG and IND series will drew the most crowd and highest TV rating.

As a BD fan, I have tons of respect for Nepalese team. I know you guys have to win this game, but act here like you already won the game. Even if Bd lose today, your still not a fully prepared to challenge A team like BD. In our country, we don't just have 11 players, we have 160+ millions players. Yes that's right, we are that much crazy about this sports. Nepal still a newcomer, there is no way Nepal will win today and get a Test Status. First of all you need a good league system in your country, which will result a good team and cause of that you will gain the test status. You (Nepalese) still far behind of us. Plz respect the whole cricket system, because the way you guys talk it seems like your disrespecting not only Bangladesh; india, Pakistan, Australia, England, srilanka, west indies, new Zealand, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

@ slackers11, In some other world cup tournaments the host nation get a free ticket to go directly to the main draw. For example USA was automatically in the main draw when world cup football played in USA. If ICC was showing a good gesture to Bangla team as you argue, why it was not put in the main draw. I think ICC wanted Bangla team to compete with other associates to prove their ability.

@Tareq Ali if Afghanistan thrashes Bangladesh it's only because Bangladesh was having a bad day but if Bangladesh thrashes India in like 2 or 3 matches in their entire career they are world champions??? Is it??? Well to quote your own words, 3 days out of 25 doesn't make you a better team than India either. India has had some very good recent successes in the last few years. They have won the T20 world cup, the 50 over world cup, the last Commonwealth trophy, 5 times Asia cup winners and last year we thrashed Australia 4-0. Out of 25 head to head matches against India BD has won only 3, the last one being 2 years ago. So why the attitude and the brick batting??? Sri Lanka won the world cup 14 years after gaining test status. This is your 14th year as a test playing country and we're in the middle of a world cup right now but BD doesn't look even close to winning the tournament. Your players are more brash than skillful. Win a major tournament first and then trash talk other teams.

It`s T20 and the way Nepal is playing, the result can be on either side. However, the likelihood of winning the game goes to B`desh. B`desh wins bcoz: -HOME SUPPORT -MOMENTUM -CONFIDENCE

Nep wins bcoz: -HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE (1st time WT20) -MOMENTUM (win vs. HKG) -GREAT CAPTAIN (I must say)

Good Luck to both teams !!

As a Nepalese fan, I would like Nepal to beat Bangladesh and make a place in the Super-10. But at the same time, if I have to be realistic, Bangladesh is far more better team than Nepal. We still have a lot to learn and a big hill to climb up to reach at their level. We are on a good direction and this is a great opportunity to learn from this tournament. Do you best guys, All the best to Paras Khadka and Gyanendra Malla, my school mate :)

I hope this match goes right down to the wire and not the boring one like Ban vs Afg.

    • POSTED BY on | March 17, 2014, 23:50 GMT

As a Bangladeshi I would say, Nepal showed that they are an emerging cricket nation with lots of potentials, possibility. Whatever happens tomorrow I wish good luck for Nepal Cricket. It is always a good experience when you play a top cricket nation. There are so many things to learn. I would say, Just enjoy your game.

For Bangladesh Cricket team, I would say this is a game where our focus should not lapse, we should just play our game. We know what our team can do. Still a long way to go. Good luck.

BD are going to win the World T20 2014. Even they are not in the Cricinfo poll list "Who are the favourites to win the 2014 World T20?". They hammered Sultans of Associates, Afg. They will thrash other minnows in the group. Then BD are gonna beat so called Top Nations and win the Cup. <In BD fan mood>

Remember Ashwin had stressed winning warm up matches give momentum for India in T20 world cup. If anyone recall the Champions trophy Indian team won all the matches including warm up matches, which gave confidence to lift the cup. That somehow happened!!! Now MSD with HIS Indian team cannot even enter semifinals, may be not even winning a match or two. Already Asia cup is gone now T20 and then world cup. Better support other teams, Indian fans! Indian team members are taking these matches as practice for their individual performance in IPL, including MSD!

Result in our favour seems to be slim, but Nepal do have calibre to overturn slim chance in their favour. This is the match that can turn round the fate of Nepal. We ve nothing to loose against host BD, bt they may loose lots. Pressure is on them. Cricket is of uncertainty who knows Nepal may continue their charisma against BD too.. all the best to our guys.

Regarding tomorrow match against bangladesh, will be a good game so far i guess. The Nepalese team had gained momentum so far now and hope to smash bangladesh team on their home ground. These guess and talks however, won't make any sense before the inning but let me remind you guys that whatever i have predicted came true till date.. Good luck to Nepal for playing against Bangladesh, which is a test playing nation. A win against them will be a huge boost, but this is unlikely. However, anything can happen in T20. Keep your cool and concentrate on the game. Be aware of each players' weakness, and plan your bowling accordingly. The same goes with their bowlers. We love Bangladesh too, and whoever wins, may that TEAM progress to the super 10. Best wishes to both the team.

Felt happy for BD fans. BD tasted their 1st international win in 2014 after loosing 10 and win-less for 11. First World T20 win after 10 consecutive losses. Good for you guys. As a Full member who got Test status in 2000 and played ODIs since 1986, BD should be the dominant team in this group. As they convincingly won the game against Afg, BD should win against Nepal and Hong Kong. In the last game, more pressure was on the Afg side, coz they won the ODI (during Asia Cup) encounter between BD and Afg. So everybody expected another upset here from Afg. They could not handle the pressure and 72 all out was the outcome. Now the pressure is on BD. Nepal has nothing to loose. But BD has.

If Bangladesh do win toss then its best to bat first because I'd hate for game to end within just 1 hour since it is certainly possible. Would be good practice for main round ahead but just don't be complacent and play proper Cricket and team should cruise this. Would be good batting practice for our top order batsman anyway if bat first. Afghanistan posting 71 made the game so boring and one sided so that's why I want Bangladesh to bat first.

    • POSTED BY BowledYa on | March 17, 2014, 17:39 GMT

BD may well celebrate wins against Associate teams, but here is my best guess of the semi-finalists: (1) Sri Lanka (wow, what form they are in lately!), (2) New Zealand (always competitive in tournaments and in good form), (3) Pakistan (in great form and a force in tournaments regardless), and (4) this is a tough one between Australia and South Africa but I'll go with South Africa. Winner: Sri Lanka or Pakistan.

Nepal gave an above the average performance in their game against Hong Kong, but then that was Hong Kong, a bunch of working people who are just playing cricket for the sake of it. Whereas, Bangladesh are very strong side filled with talented cricketers to the brink, some of whom are world class. Bangladesh should easily qualify from this group to the Super 10s, however, I would love to be proved wrong by the Nepali cricket team. My favorites are Nepal, but by simple logic Bangladesh would be the qualifying side.

to asiacricket1234 - it is a game of cricket and bad day could come for a team and that team could lost the game that day. For Bangladesh, the match against Afghans in asia cup was a match like that. We lost. it doesn't mean they are better than us. Yes, they need more years to come to the position where we are right now. We have beaten all the test playing countries in ODI already. Once they have the done then let them come and talk. Nepal is improving but they are not in the same level with us. Way to go man. We will win. Wait till tonight.

This tournament is just a starting point for Nepal , so I dont care how they do in this wc but I very much wish Nepal become good cricket nation and a strong cricket team in near future. Line and length of some Bd pacers seem very inconsistent and they are gonna get thrashed by good teams in this t20 wc if they cant fix it immidiately. I wish Ziaur Rahman and Robiul Islam played instead of them.

    • POSTED BY espncricinfomobile on | March 17, 2014, 15:17 GMT

A match bw Nepal and Bd would be a bit hard to predict.. If we talk of experience then of course Bengalis are def ahead.. Nepal is currently on the top of the table with the best run rate.. If they show some battling in their remaining matches then they may even make a surprising appearance as qualifiers.. Now talking of Bd again, they've got home ground advantage, massive support from the crowd and of course very talented players.. Specifically Shakib can be extremely difficult to handle if he shows jubilance with bat n bowl both.. So good luck to both the teams

    • POSTED BY durber99 on | March 17, 2014, 14:43 GMT

Mr Kisswor Bhatt, you said that if Nepal cricket team give their best then they can beat BD but if BD give their best performance in this game then what will be happen? Cricket is not an easy game. Any thing can happen but in international level skills and pure tecnique in batting is really important whether you hit or knock the ball and you have to read the pitch by early 3 to 4 overs and based on that you have to change your gear rather than suiciding. Bangladesh should qualify for the next round otherwise India-Australia-Pakistan-Westindies will get very easy opponent. If BD qualify then BD can create a huge headache for India-Australia-Pakistan & Westindies. Match will be more competitive in the next round. Best wishes for the tigers. Hope so, Nepal will also provide some sensational cricket.

    • POSTED BY on | March 17, 2014, 14:39 GMT

A shame that only one of these teams will go through to the next round. They should allow two from each group to progress as it gives the associates a chance to play a test nation. Also would add variety to the main tournament and there can be upsets. Yes now and then totally lop-sided contests would be there. But it's ok - T20 is the best chance to spread cricket. Afg, Nepal and ireland look ok and have passionate following. So they should be given more chances.

"This could be one of the last few opportunities for their batsmen to gain a good habit of identifying areas in which they can keep hitting and finding boundaries. " Very disrespectful Mr. Isam. I sincerely hope my team knocks BD out of the the air-castle. We may not be a test-playing nation. But by no means are we push-overs and defiitely not there to give your players BOUNDARY-HITTING practice.... I hope for your team's sake that it doesn't go into the match with this attitude. If only we play as well as we did yesterday, you will be rudely awaken Mr. Isam. Best of Luck to Bangladesh and their fans...hoping for a good game. JAI NEPAL.

ban should bat first and scrore above 180. bd seam bowling looks weak.though mashrafi was good in the last match but he is so prone to injury which makes it difficult to rely on him.
