India 141 for 2 (Kohli 57*, Rohit 56) beat Bangladesh 138 for 7 (Anamul 44, Mishra 3-26) by 8 wickets
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details

Highlights - India clinch semis berth with eight-wicket win

Indian fans have liked this movie so much they have watched it three times in a row. Now they won't mind it in the semi-finals either. Forget whatever is happening with their administration in India, the cricket team has put in another big performance to become the first entrants into the World T20 semi-finals. Once again MS Dhoni won the toss - the 15th consecutive time he's done it in completed matches - once again a nervous opposition self-combusted despite an early life to a top-order batsman, once again their spinners pulled things back, and once again the batsmen knocked off a sub-par total with ease.

Amit Mishra was the key man with the ball again, with three wickets, but R Ashwin once again bowled the dirty overs, and had two wickets to show for this time. Bangladesh tried to go hard at India, taking 13 off the first over, and Tamim Iqbal had been missed by Shikhar Dhawan, before Ashwin produced two wickets in his first two overs, for just three runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with Shakib Al Hasan's scalp to make it 21 for 3 in the fifth over. All three had fallen to ordinary shots, leaving the passionate home crowd shell-shocked.

Anamul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim steadied the ship with a 46-run stand, but at 67 for 4 in 11 overs, the ship had hardly left the harbour. Anamul looked impressive for his 44 off 43, and Mahmudullah tried his best to provide the late impetus with an unbeaten 33 off 23, but Mishra's final over put paid to all hopes of a fight. The 20th over began at 131 for 5, but two Mishra deliveries later - a trademark stumping and a hole-out to long-off - Bangladesh had ceded control of the match again.

India are the only team apart from Nepal to have not conceded 140 in this tournament. And their record chasing such totals has been good: nine wins out of 10 before tonight. It wasn't about to go bad here.

A familiar story unfolded when India came out to chase. Dhawan looked ungainly and fell trying to force his way out of a rough patch, but Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli saw India through with a second successive century stand. Both went to their fifties. The only time they saw trouble was when Rohit put one in the air, but Sohag Gazi ruined Anamul's catch by running back and into Anamul at deep midwicket.

It was yet another satisfactory evening for India even as manure has hit the fan back home. MS Dhoni, the man whose name has been drawn into court proceedings, promoted himself to have his first hit in this tournament, and finished the chase off in Kohli's company.

@H.m. question for many times SL won the matches in knockouts against India after 1996 semi not remembering any match that you won against us in ICC events....whereas India beat SL in 2011 WC final, 2013 CT semi final...first escape from NZ batting on monday....i support for NZ on monday...definitely in crucial stages, it will fight more than any other team....just watch out....or watch the same highlights of that warm up match again and again

Posted by vkumar_086 on (March 30, 2014, 10:56 GMT)

@H.m. Shashika....dear everybody knew why India did not bother about winning in warm up match against SL...Dhoni told in press conference that he is going to check few combination that suits to conditions...he did not come to bat also...he sent Kohli in 6th lot of factors helped SL to win by only 5 runs margin...have you forgot the thrashing given by the same Dhoni in 2011 WC final....Malinga beaten black and blue...its better for SL to avoid facing India in semis...oh i forgot, they yet to reach semis....plz publish

Contrary to the expectations India has sailed through to the semis almost effortlessly. But I , for one, have not been much impressed. It is partially the listless performance of all 3 teams which has helped them win so easily. Be it Pakistan, WI or BD , all appeared as if they were sedated or under tremendous stress while they were batting. Their bowling too appeared so easy for Indians to handle. Despite the consistent failure of our some of the star batsmen, Yuvi & Shikher, India seems to have had no issues with their batting as well. Traditionally we have always been critciised as the weakest bowling side. MSD himself voiced his concerns recently over this. So ... what has changed ? Is it the black Bangla magic !! Everything seems to be going our way. The only thing we want and have been missing so far is the real excitement that T20 generates and has generated earlier in matches of Aus-WI, Aus-Pak,SA-NZ & SL-Eng, etc. Jai Ho !!

India is first team to qualify for semi and will be the first team to be knocked out of semi. This is what happens when a team thinks they are playing well.

hey vikas.. did u watch the warmup match.. SL vs IN... if not we will show it in semifinals. . now dont worry to watch that highlights.. SL is the best team ever. .

What happened to BD!..seems like they are again on their way to what they were several years back losing continuously being not competitive even especially after asia cup & now after losing to associate HK they are noway in control..i wonder where BD's talent & potential has gone now after their remarkable improvement considering last 2 years being competitive in almost every match they played against the test teams, the scenario says BD team has gone a bit like damp bomb&needs to explode really before it gets more say its almost unbelievable to see them playing this way without being competitive even & losing two games against the associates in a very short time, this is unacceptable as BD is way superior to all associates even though they lost to HK but still ended up being the group champion in qualifying round which is little to BD's standard! all this must be sorted out asap!! BD lost against WI the last T20 WC champion but losing this way against IND was not logical...

Posted by mrgupta on (March 29, 2014, 19:12 GMT)

@abcdef_12345: Great Observation! India in 80s played 81 tests and BD has so far played 83 Tests, India won 11 out of those, including victories against every test nation, and lost 21. BD has Won 4, including victories only against 2 test nations and has lost 68. In ODIs in 80s India played 150 against Test nations and Won 64, lost 80 including victories in WC1983 and Champions Trothy 1985. BD in last 148 ODIs has Won 51 (27 against Zim) and lost 96 including no tournament wins. So, you are right, this BD team is exactly like India of 80s.

@Noman Issa....why cant you understand...even if we lose against wont affect our place....whereas the thrashing of WI to your team will book a ticket to your native....WI are really tough to beat...yesterdays match against aussies showed this...

@abcdef_12345 BD team is like the Indian team in early '80s? Really? I'd love to know how you reached that conclusion. India won the WC in 1983 and World Championship of Cricket in 1985. They also made it the WC Semi Finals in 1987. This is just ODI cricket. BD team has miles to go before it is close to being similar to the Indian team in the '80s.

I do unot understand the logic behind people asking India to bat first. It's like asking somebody to step on mine field saying that you need to get used to it. My answer to those folks is if it is unavoidable one need to step on it...till then no need. Keep your limbs intact.

Starting with a win against arch rivals pakistan, indian confidence is sky rocketing. India have chased 130s so far and india spinners bowled well against all three oppositions. Pakistan being the best against spin while WI are not so and BD even further not so good against spin but both WI/BD scored 130s which shows losing grip of indian spinners and aussies will expose it further in the next match. This will show where india belong and will play semi after loss to Aussies who are yet to stamp any authority. Furthermore, indians have batted second when bowling sides face dew factor issue so having four spinners while defending will make india suffer for sure. Let's see how lucky dhoni is.

Posted by espncricinfomobile on (March 29, 2014, 12:22 GMT)

I really dont understand y people want india to bat first.. India has class batsman which can chase any score.. Every1 know india chasing 350 in 2-3 occasions.. Deir weak point is bowling at the depth which will be solved bery soon.. A team always chooses wats best for them. It is here not for any charity purpose or any such things.. As for pakistan it can defend so it chooses to bat first.. The captain and the team management knows very well wat r the negative and positive aspects of deir team.. So please keep your mouth ahut those who dont know wat cricket is.. Just watch the match and enjoy.. As for bd.. Past 15 years i can see bd at same stage.. And people saying india cant play outside or anyhting for dem best example is india vs srilanka hobart.. Where 320 target was chased in 38 overs.. Malinga was beaten backn blue by kohli.. So stop commenting like a dumb.. Enjoy the match and hope our fellow country mates reach semis and finals.. Congratulations team india.. :)

Good luck and good will supports only those people who are focused. And at this time any one can say India is much focused as compare to any other teamS. The main factors which are contributing towards the Indian win are strong basics of the game which they are delievering at regular interval of time. Both batsmen and bowlers are delievering their best.

Would like to see India bat first against Australia!!!

Posted by android_user on (March 29, 2014, 10:26 GMT)

@Nishanthraju- NZ and SA faced Indian spinners in their home which is known for producing anti-spinner pitches or say green tracks helping seamers.. Did you forget the beating nz got from India when they last toured India.. SA hasn't toured India since 2010 cz they know they are gonna get a healthy beating from India.. In these conditions and pitches teams like NZ and SA are like bunnies to Indian spinners.. SA batsmen are not in form and NZ batting is weak too except Bmccullum..

Posted by HaiderAliKazmi on (March 29, 2014, 10:24 GMT)

@Rajesh Kumar buddy please get your facts straight! Pakistan defeated West Indies, the world champions at their home soil last year 2-0 (July 2013) & has 67% wining ratio against the Carrabin's. Whatever will happen in the match against WI no can say with surety, however if you guys are so influenced & driven by the statistics & past records, Pakistan so far is the only team which qualified for the semi finals in all the 4 editions of the T20 World Cups the only team to reach 2 Finals, the team which has won the most T20 Internationals then any team in the world. Does it gives you some clarity that if we as a Pakistan supporter cheer our team, we do it based on the performance & not based on emotionally charged up mind? We Pakistani supporters are confident that green team will make it for the semi final spot this time around as well, however at the end of the day it is a game & better team on the given day will prevail. Agreed Australia is not the best T20 side, best of luck India!:)

Posted by Khans_word on (March 29, 2014, 10:22 GMT)

Been way too easy for India! Subcontinental home-like conditions probably suit the team more than others. I think that Dhoni's captaincy, planning, startegy and overall influence really gets the best out the team. The team has some really good batsman, although a few are clearly out of form. So far the good has covered up the bad. The bowling has been good on the spin side but is still on the average side. I think its that pressure that India can exert (maybe by just being India) that gets them psychologically over the other sides. Winning the toss 3 times in a row has helped them immensely. They always bring out the best in competition formats but are a poor touring team, possible blame for this is that too many comforts of IPL has changed the mindset of players in the last few years. It could be a repeat of WC 2011 on the cards, although a T20 2007 Final repeat would be awesome for a lot of fans!

Posted by android_user on (March 29, 2014, 10:13 GMT)

@Noman Issa- India has already qualified for the semis while pakistan is still far away from qualifying for the semis..They still have to beat WI and Ban to qualify..that pretty much clarifies what India is worth.....

Posted by vkumar_086 on (March 29, 2014, 10:07 GMT)

Matches of India are boring (according to Pak and SL fans)....because the opponent (including Pak and SL) teams are not just capable of beating India in big events....can you ever imagine all the teams played against India so far are not able to post the total more than 140...and people are often say that Indian bowling attack is very weak...the so called BEST BOWLING attacks cant able to defend their huge totals (especially SL's 189 against weak T20 country England) and still searching ways to book semi final spot with lot of excuses

@Noman Issa - I believe you're a Bangladeshi fan. Don't worry about the Indian team it has already qualified for the semis. Meanwhile every other team (including Afghanistan and Hong Kong) have shown you your team's "worth"

Posted by Nishanthraju on (March 29, 2014, 9:20 GMT)

I think it is safe for India to face srilanka or england in semis. Because india has a poor t20 record against newzealand and southafrican batsmen Amla, De kock, Ab de villers are capable of counter attacking indian spinners.

India will get thrashing by Aus in next match.. than u guys will see ur worth.. Pak will qualify for semis by beating both Bd n Wi

Posted by Rajesh.Kumar on (March 29, 2014, 8:50 GMT)

West Indies will show Pakistan, how weak Pak team really is. I hope to see a Windies India final, because the prospects of an Indo-Pak final is very boring for me, and it will be like a walkover for India. Pak fans hopes have gone to sky after they defeated Australia. But the thing is that Australia has never been a good T20 team, and they have never performed well in subcontinent. So that victory is meaningless. And WI will truly show where Pak belong....

Posted by ullasjp on (March 29, 2014, 8:50 GMT)

for all who are asking India to win by batting 1st.. Remember Champions trophy 13 final india batted 1st in a unpleasant condition n won... One question from my side wats wrong if u back ur strength n play.. every team does it pak n sl's strength is to defend even though pak lost to india n lanka lost to england

As far as the World Cup's are concerned for other teams(except Australia), the players who perform very well in the league matches, turn exactly the opposite in the the knockout stages. Hope mishra, kohli, rohit, spinners come good in the semi finals.

Thanks to everyone who clarified the non existing 3-way tie. It was my mistake. Pak & WI have yet to meet is something which totally escaped my mind, when I posted my query. Thanks once again. And also, happy about it.

Posted by vkumar_086 on (March 29, 2014, 7:57 GMT)

@Kazi_Rajib....BD players are more arrogant than any team in the world...i still remember the statement of Tamim to Dravid in 2007 WC...after that innings, i have not seen Tamim's another performance till now...this is the example of 'arrogance will lead us to nowhere'...even after continuously thrashed by both associates and test playing nations, BD fans are in dreamworld...that last six hit by shakib against Nepal...after that match, has he played another good innings till now?...i found many such examples of BD players in this WC...whereas Indian players are far better than any other players...they respect opposition and show their strength in performance, remember Dhoni praising Pak players in press conference...i like WI players lot in this regard....they play games in right spirit...both these teams are truly deserved as champions

Posted by BHAGWAN-XI on (March 29, 2014, 7:57 GMT)

All boring t20 matches against indian team played. Not any big score in 1st march then after aus-pak match they score near 400 before india match then WI-Aus match they score 350+ before india match to B'Desh yesterday, same ground. But not any big score and going like a first class match. It's not good they doing batting IInd in every march and not playing in same condition with Ist batting because they have not sure to win the toss every match.

Posted by   on (March 29, 2014, 7:49 GMT)

@shehan parera... Matches are usually interesting when they are close and nail biting, but not the one which are one sided.. To all other Ind haters, let me c if ur team wins a toss and have courage to bat first in your Q/F like games.. LOL

Posted by sanjeevmukherjee2006 on (March 29, 2014, 7:49 GMT)

hmm people are saying lets see wat will happen if india bats first so these people think that pak wi and ban are very bad in batting that theyi cant even score 140 lol.just accept indians have at last a settled bowling unit. regarding white washes abroad.. hmm dont forget pak were white washed in australia in 2009 and in south africa one or two year back.. sri lanka were white washed in aus last year so focus on ur teams . also we are playing without sehwag bhajji .also many greats retired.

Posted by Coolcapricorn on (March 29, 2014, 7:44 GMT)

@Jose Puliampatta There can't be a three way tie in Group 2 as the W.I. & Pakistan are still to play each other this coming Tuesday - so whoever wins this match will be the only other team in the group who can join India on 6 points [India's current points total] - hence this is why India are already assured of a semi-final berth at present. This Pak-W.I. match is effectively a knock-out match & the victors will probably be the team that joins India in the semi-finals.

Posted by me_awsom on (March 29, 2014, 7:35 GMT)

@Jose: Their cannot be a three way tie which will include India. If WI who has 1 match left against Pak wins, WI go to 6 pts and Pak cannot make it. If Pak wins both their matches, that means they will be defeating WI in that process and so Pak gets 6 pts whereas WI will be left with 4 pts. So Even if india wins or loses to Aus, they still qualify for semis. But yeah, will have to wait and watch if India tops the group or not!!

Posted by android_user on (March 29, 2014, 7:33 GMT)

@Jose- How cud pak amd wi both win their respective matches as wi has onlg one match left and that's against pakistan..If wi wins pak's ot of the tourney..whereas pak has to win against bd and wi both.. Use your head.. India has already qualified..

Two in two matches. Still reading some comments about Rohit Sharma that he is not good for opening. Very surprising. Now many comments started also targeting Dhavan. Dhavan is having some tough time along with UV. But Dhoni is rightly sticking the winning combination. It is very nessesorry not to disturb winning rapo. Now India is already through to the semis. Before semis it will be a very good contest against Aussies. Definately I want perticular for this match Dhoni to loose toss and Aussie select to bowl first. Then Indian bowling attack will be tested defending the target and also Rohit, Virat & company will be having target to set the huge total against quality attack. And if Dhavan or UV gets their touch back in the match, nothing will be like that. India is performing at its best in this T20 WC. All the best team India.

Posted by android_user on (March 29, 2014, 7:32 GMT)

Jose Puliampatta - West indies has just one match left to play. Against Pakistan. Pakistan has two matches left to play. Bangladesh and West Indies. So if Pakistan wins both their matches then they get 6 points and tie with India (assuming they lose against Australia) while WEST Indies remain on 4 points. So the possibility of a 3 way tie is impossible no matter who wins how many games. India is already in the semi finals.

Posted by vipinchirackal on (March 29, 2014, 7:32 GMT)

@josepuliyampettaone match is between west indies and pakistan.then how can both teams win all the remiaining matches

Posted by realfan on (March 29, 2014, 7:31 GMT)

@Jose Puliampatta : WI has to play match against PAK, ( only one can win in this match either pak or wi ) , if WI wins, they are automatically into semis with 6 points.... if pak wins, again pak has to win against BD to qualify for semis, if pak losses agaisnt BD, then net runrate between both pak and WI will come into play.... either way it doesnt harm india.... actually all the three teams ( WI, AUS, PAK ) has chances to reach semis, but AUS chances are bleak ....

Posted by Hindh on (March 29, 2014, 7:29 GMT)

@mzm What have pak done in overseas even they were Whitewashed 3-0 in SA and 3-0 in Aus the last time. They are faring much worse than India in tests inspite of having so called better bowling attack...So mellow down and support good cricket.

Posted by   on (March 29, 2014, 7:28 GMT)

Both West Indies and Pakistan cannot win both their matches since they have to face each other.

Posted by realfan on (March 29, 2014, 7:19 GMT)

@mzm : its like this... last year in CT13 india were unbeaten till semifinals and yes dhoni won all the tosses and except against saffas he chose to field first in all matches..... agains guys like you kept on whinning "dhoni is lucky to win tosses he is afraid of batting first, he is using favourable conditions, he is lucky, let his lose toss and defend once then we will se what happens"... finals came, fortunately cook won the toss and guess what dhoni proved he is champion captain.... and this is exact replica of that.... but the fact is dhoni knows how to win tosses... winning tosses is an art , that requires no rocket science , you just nedd to street smart which both ganguly and ponting were ( both of them were winning tosses regularly ) ... try to understand its not thaat big thing to go through you small mind....

Posted by android_user on (March 29, 2014, 7:19 GMT)

There can't be any 3 way tie now. Pakistan and windies yet to play each other and one will sure win. If pakistan beats windies and bdesh they will end up with 3 wins out of 4, windies 2 out of 4, aus 2 out of 4 if they beat ind nd bdesh. So india and pakistan will be thru to the semifinals.

Posted by   on (March 29, 2014, 7:07 GMT)

If India loses to Australia, and both West Indies & Pakistan win their remaining matches, there will be a 3-way tie, on points. Assuming that nether Pak nor WI will win with a bonus point.

Can someone clarify, how India is assured of a semi-final spot. Partly my doubt is based on my confusion about the sequence of tie breaker rules adopted for this tournament. In the past, it had been slightly different in different tournaments.

Posted by Rajesh.Kumar on (March 29, 2014, 7:03 GMT)

Actually, Bangladesh made more runs against India than Pakistan and WI. Pakistan of course will never win against India in any ICC World Cup, but WI is a much better team than that. I predict that it will be WI which will reach the semis after defeating Pak comprehensively. Pakistan is actually a very weak and highly over-rated team, which is only slightly better than BD. No wonder BD batsmen in Asia Cup made 326 runs against these great Pakistani bowlers.

Posted by Ramansilva on (March 29, 2014, 6:59 GMT)

@bumpu, When Ashwin come into bowl one may wonder whether he is manly enough by seeing the way his hips move. Perhaps wapuser was wondering about that.

Posted by android_user on (March 29, 2014, 6:59 GMT)

mzm149- Bangladesh gonna book Pakistan's ticket to home on Sunday.. Just worry abt ur average, unprofessional, confused aand crippled team.. Playing with just one bowler and one batsman(that's too unpredictable batsman, He will score 94 in one match and very next match he will get out without scoring anything).. And even if you guys somehow win against BD then WI will blast your team away just like they did that to aussies yesterday..

Posted by vkumar_086 on (March 29, 2014, 6:52 GMT)

@mzm149...India loves chasing...hope you the fact that India is the only team which chased more than 200 twice in T20's and more than 350 thrice in ODI's....we call comprehensive means winning by 7 or 8 wickets in every time..not like that winning in last ball by one wicket with 2 mishits....India successfully defended 170 odd total in warm up match against England, so need to prove....WI will surely thrash Pak and throw them out of the tournament....i cheer for WI in that match...even by luck, Pak meet INDIA in final, just like 2007 WC, India will repeat the history and stretch its record to 10-0 in WC's....good luck

@mzm149 what happened to our team in england newzealand sa aus...same thing happened to them when those teams came to india or same things happened when pak sl toured those countries (may be worst things happened) agreed india did not perform well coz it doesnt have bowlers for those conditions but batting was good ther also...please check scores in recent sa and nz tours.... so shall we stop playing cricket in subcontinent ...or can you put up a proposal like india should not take part in subcontinent tournaments where conditions favour? same are the conditions for sl and pak ? asia cup was one off matches.. teams played bettter on the day won , and india are bound to loose some... aus won toss in both the matches and lost both...what can you say about that? ther was no dew yesterday and also on the day of pak match...if you watched those matches criticism should be there but not when teams and does well..give credit where its due..dont be such short minded

@wapuser. Why are you at Ashwin's throat? Are you not aware that overs 1-6 are the power play overs? Do you not agree that his incisive bowling in these six overs set the tone for the match? Or have you decided that Ashwin has to be criticised come what may. Come on guys enjoy the moment and stop nit picking.

Kazi_Rajib - Do you also remember what Viru did in the match following those comments??? Although arrogance is never commendable yet BD is in no position to be brash and arrogant about other teams when their own team is losing to an associate country (sorry countries) in less than a month. You should respect teams which are playing cricket eons before your country was even formed.

@mzm149 : just wondering what happened to your greatt bowling line up in CT13 , against india in first match, in every Wc matches for that matter... just wondering how many series has your great bowling attack won in eng, NZ, AUS, WI???

so if you saay india won important toss, that means you can win against india only when they lose toss???? if so then its pathetic of your team... and you want india to chose bowl first or bat first ddepending on what fans say??? lol .. ajmal , magincian was trashed by some mediocre batsmen of aus on these same spin heavens... where were you at that time??? ah and agains your predictions are invincible.. they always comes true.. lol.. hope they come true this time... lol.. talk about making fun of yourself... you are doing just the right thing

Posted by   on (March 29, 2014, 6:27 GMT)

Well played by team India. We will choose to bat first in the Aus match if we won the toss & test our batting & death bowling skill it boosts our confidence else semi / final surely we will face problem if the opposition wins the toss.

@ mzm149 on (March 29, 2014, 5:54 GMT) - India has a young side who are learning to play in different conditions. Sure, they lost in SA and NZ where most of these talented young bunch were touring for the first time! And this happens to be the same venue where they lost two tight Asia Cup games to Pak and eventual winner SL. Despite the short-comings of this young Indian side, they remain the most talented team along with Aus!!

@Ali asgar- Ashwin bowls in powerplay overs and that too quite economically..He took two wickets yesterday as well..Ashwin deserved the MOM more than anyone else..

Posted by android_user on (March 29, 2014, 6:17 GMT)

@mzm149- Nobody stays in the past, Everyone lives in the present and luck or no luck India's still winning all their matches in "this" tournament.. India is a professional team that doesn't hue and cry over dewy conditions or bad weather.. India loves chasing that's why India chose to bowl first in all three occasion..It wasn't bcz of fear of dew.. Now that India has reached semis now Dhoni will want to bat first and shut blabbering mouths for good.. You just sorry abt ur team cz Bangladesh is hungry and it will give a Pakistan a piece of their mind on Sunday.. Even if India bowled first they bowled beautifully to restrict all three opposition to less than 140.. Hate as much as you can but India's winning this cup this time..

Posted by Yousufahmed1 on (March 29, 2014, 6:16 GMT)

@ mzm149 Same thing that happened to your team in ZIM.

Posted by wapuser on (March 29, 2014, 6:05 GMT)

Dirty overs are usually the last 5 overs. Ashwin has not bowlled in any of those overs in any of the 3 matches.

Posted by wapuser on (March 29, 2014, 5:58 GMT)

Just wanted to know the logic of giving Ashwin the mom, over Mishra. Why cant a player get 3 mom's in a row. Even Kohli deserved it. Why Ashwin ??

Posted by mzm149 on (March 29, 2014, 5:54 GMT)

@realfan: I am just wondering what happened to this invincible team on New Zealand, South Africa, England and Australia tours and this Asia Cup and the last. Winning three important tosses, escaping to bowl second in dew and bowling on spinner heaven is nothing more than luck. Lucky escape so far!

Posted by   on (March 29, 2014, 5:53 GMT)

I am worried that at some point Mishra will get tonked badly in late overs by a quality player of spin and will hurt india badly. Dhawan and Yuvraj are a real cause of worry and what worries most is that India has not been tested at all yet.

@electric_loco_WAP4, First let your team enter the semis first man then we might think of a match between INDIA and SRI LANKA

Posted by Kazi_Rajib on (March 29, 2014, 5:44 GMT)

@ Varun Upadhye, Please see the following link. I remembered, none of Indians congratulated to Bangladesh as for famous win at Asia Cup. Also how can we forgot that comments made by Sehwag, that Bangladesh is the most ordinary team by neglecting mode.

Posted by Fast_Track_Bully on (March 29, 2014, 5:39 GMT)

Few xcuses we can suggest for BD fans based on their previous comments 1) India bowled first. So, they are afraid of BD bowling. 2) BD played it as a practise match 3) India played with same team - they afraid to give chances to others 4) BD hit more fours than India - so, they are the best 5) 4 BD batsmen in double digits but only 3 for India 6) 5 BD batsmen in single digits but only 1 Indian 7) BD beat associates. India will not play against them because of fear of loosing

Posted by AkDoN on (March 29, 2014, 5:33 GMT)

Clinical performance by IND..they actually showed all teams how to play & win game..have seen no panic ever with IND both bowling & batting..that caused them to be #1 T20 team now..Bet Luck IND for Semis & course the Finale!!

Congrats to India for winning. Really hope to see indo pak winning and going into finals like 2007 World Cup. Indian team in this cup really deserve respect as whatever is happening in their backyard. They haven't let anything distract them, instead as dhoni said the dressing room atmosphere is better now which is a huge plus point.

@bul98- The real excitement in sports is winning and winning comprehensively..Well, India's doing that consistently in a unpredictive format of cricket! Hating India would give you just embarrasment and despair.. Who cares what you think, Indian and millions of fans across the globe love team India and It's brand of cricket..I am not sure you even like cricket or understand cricket.. Which team you are supporting, I guess It's losing hard..I guess you're an oz or sl fan..

Posted by android_user on (March 29, 2014, 5:28 GMT)

@Ain_El_Sabet - dude do you seriously follow cricket or are you making comments just for the sake of it??? Don't you remember this same Indian side with the same captain won the Champion's trophy last year in England??? Dhoni also won the VB series in Australia against Australia a few years ago. Oh not to mention the very first T20 world cup in South Africa. So your argument is invalid.

Posted by passion_cric on (March 29, 2014, 5:23 GMT)

I would like to say there are some fans like @hyder Zaman & mzm who always belittle other team performances. In one of the thread related to Asia cup match he has derided SL match performance by saying SL is B grade team without Sangakkara. Now they are saying Indian team is pathetic. This is really hilarious, look at your team performance there is no bowler in your team (except Saeed ajmal).Better not to talk about the batting & fielding (only one word abysmal).Get a life man!! Stop the negativity & introspect.

Posted by cricktwins on (March 29, 2014, 5:22 GMT)

First over bowled by bhuvneshwar cost 13 runs. Dhoni immediately turned to Ashwin, slowed the run rate, put lot of pressure on Bangladeshi batsmen. Batsmen lost their cool gifted 2 wickets to Ashwin. Momentum clearly swung towards India then Dhoni called bhuvneshwar again who took the wicket of shakib . Fall of wickets within power play overs caused Bangladesh to bat slowly and lose the match. Excellent captaincy by Dhoni.

its very interesting and thrilling to watch the batting of both australia and india irrespective of win or everyone i was also thinking indian bowlers are worst.but see all these matches not only their spinners but their pace bowlers also did well.though bengladesh surrendered meekly it doesnt mean bengladesh is a below average team.even pakistan and west indies also couldnt put up a good show to india.certainly they are playing world class cricket at this time

Out of the context, with due respect to off spinners and left arm spin its really good to see rise of some leg break bowlers who were very effective so far in the tournament. Hope the golden era of Warne, Kumble & Mushi will be back with many prospects like Mishra,Tahir, Muirhead. Early to predict but.

Posted by   on (March 29, 2014, 5:08 GMT)

We tend to cater to sentiments than hard realities. Even if Dhawan was batting like he did against Australia in his debut match, he should be dropped on the basis of his atrocious fielding.

Posted by   on (March 29, 2014, 5:00 GMT)

India Blues sealed their seat in the semifinal slot. It was as easy as it can get. The batting and spin bowling - both were excellent. What is the bowling coach doing to help the seamers. isn't that his job to teach them how to bowl the right stuff, particularly the yorkers instead of the short pitched deliveries. Battingwise Dhawan should take rest and warm the bench. He is at a loss and is batting like a school boy trying to take some evasive action.Instead Rahane should open the innings. Rohit is just not fit to open the innings. His shot selection is terrible. He could do better in the middle order where he does not have to face the swing bowlers. Maybe Rayudu and Rahane could open against Australia. Yuvraj should give company to Dhawan in the dugout. Dhoni should pay more attention to his keeping abilities. His concentration seemed to be somewhere else. Good he got some batting practice. The fielding has been excellent too.Of course Bangladesh did not pose any threat to India.

I'm confused by some of the comments from my fellow Sri Lanka country men, you guys really want to face India in semis? Do u guys forgot wt India did to us in WC 2011 Final or in Semi's of the Champion Trophy last year? Guys first we need to Qualify for the semis for that we need to play well against New Zealand. With Bmac, Taylar and Corey is not easy to beat them. And guys please don't embrace our self by bosting we won against india in the warm up, we all know if Kholi comes to bat at no3 or Dhoni comes to bat wt would happen. Pls guys don't put rubbish comments and embrace true SL fans... Give credit where it's due..... Cric Info Pls publish this as for the Sake of SL fans.......

Posted by Oracle_Magus on (March 29, 2014, 4:56 GMT)

We are in the semis bro, and most of you are still complaining. We played some excellent cricket friends and that's the reason why we are in the Semis. Please do keep in mind it is a team that wins and we should never change a winning combination. We need to understand that form is temporary, but talent permanent. When you are low on confidence one tends to be over cautious and mistakes happen. This is the case of Dhawan and Yuvi. Rohit and Raina has come out of their shell and soon we will the rest joining the party. Have faith in the team and players bro, and only then miracles can happen. We have the capacity to win even when batting first. We have seen that in the Champions Trophy and once the players are confident we can take on any team at ease. Please bear in mind that confidence can be built only by supporting them. So please stop complaining and support our team and players bro. All the best boys. Cheers!

Posted by android_user on (March 29, 2014, 4:40 GMT)

For all those people saying that the Indian bowling haven't been tested because they have always bowled first, how does that even make sense??? In a T20 game every innings is a test for bowlers. No one is stopping the other team to go after the bowling in the first innings. Good bowling is always good bowling regardless of the situation.

Posted by realfan on (March 29, 2014, 4:34 GMT)

ranking of teams are updated alright, but why not for the players???? still players have the same rankings...

Posted by android_user on (March 29, 2014, 4:18 GMT)

@bul98 - don't blame India if the opposition isn't capable enough to post a big total on the board enough for the game to go to the wire. Accept it. India has won all the games comprehensively through both their batting and bowling department. None of the teams posted anything above 140 and none of them had bowlers to give India a tough competition. Even though it was slow but the win was comprehensive nonetheless.

i guess dhoni should give rahane and binny a chance ahead of their semis so that he would know the form of these 2 players as well lhe looking at the contributions of dhawan and jadeja i think it wud be better if india played rahane as opener for a match and stuart binny as a replacement of jaddu..i know that binny is no replacement for jadeja but look at jadejas form recently bowling has been disasstrous in the last 2 game he has given away 80 odd runs in 8 overs....maybe binny could help out also not ignoring the fact maxwell has been playing spinners amazingly well it wud be better if we kept jadeja out of this for dhawan i dont have to say much...its time dhawan found some competition in the team to give him an incentive to perform better.....

Posted by realfan on (March 29, 2014, 3:34 GMT)

shikar dhwan is projecting himself as the left handed version of sehwag, but he got to be reminded that dhawan cant reach the class of sehwag in his dreams.... dhawan doesnt have the technique of an opener... lose bottom hand, long handle, no balance required, not proper technique.... although i am an indian , i dont like dhawan's batting.... rohit although made to open has done better than dhawan... india better find some one with proper technique to open, uttappa, rahane or pujara.... kohli cna take responsibility.... dhawan is as good as slogger...

Posted by Surajk on (March 29, 2014, 3:31 GMT)

@abcdef_12345 If you remember, India won the WC in 1983, so may be Bangladesh are now what India was in 1975/1979 WC. But again, even then we had a good test team which had won in WI, Eng and NZ. Don't think the same can be said of Bangladesh.

But the unbelievable passion and fan following in Bangladesh will ensure that the team will definitely improve and realistically can aim at winning a global trophy in the next 10 years. Winning overseas test matches/series might take more time.

India will have a trouble against Aus, hope big chase happens OR India get a chance to bat first. Aus are better team against spinners and Ashwin, Mishy, Jaddu will have tough time against Warner, Finch, Baily and Maxwell. I hope that happens and India can have better batting practice.

great 3 wins for india these.... out of all the controversies of the field that must be very hard for the players to be performing on the field.... indian dressing room clearly is the best dressing room and they compliment each other, they have very nice enviroment... i cant imagine any team performing half good as india if other teams had same controversies off the field as india has..... any way i am smelling india WI finals here.... if WI manages to win against pak in their next match...that is possible... and i would like to see india batting first against AUS and testing their strengths... nothing to lose in that match, ( except that we fans dont want AUS to win any match in this tournament , after what faulkener said about west indian players ) .... they are the worst team i have ever seen... more like worst tspirit of game... anyway, good to see dhoni hitting those sixes and he tested himself...

CONTINUED ... And as for any fan that comes out with absurd declarations about how India or Pakistan took a 50 years to become a force to reckon with, I have got news for you. A lot less cricket was played in the 1950s to 1990s as when compared to the 2000s. So the no. of years argument is illogical in this comparison! The no. of games played shows the difference in performance more accurately. Take tests for example, Bangladesh played 83 tests in 13 years from 2001 to 2014 winning 4 (2 against that West Indies B team and 2 against post crisis Zimbabwe) and losing 68 and managing only 11 draws. India played 86 tests in 30 years from 1932 to 1964 winning only 8 but losing only 34. They had 44 draws. Pakistan played 82 tests in 25 years from 1952 to 1977 and won 14 losing only 22. They drew 46. So you can be sure that if India or Pakistan had played 83 tests in their first 13 years like Bangladesh, their progress would have been much faster as well!

Has anyone else noticed how much Sakib has been scoring since his refusal to take a single in a match that was already won against a rookie associate and then sealing a match with a six which was apparently all about "making a statement"? When you are playing for an ordinary team that is dishing out below average results you must not dare to disrespect your opponent like that! First an embarrassing loss to Hong Kong which is another associate. And then battered by West Indies who were actually playing terribly in that game. And now India just sleep walked through to a win without even trying. CONTINUED.

Posted by match_referee7 on (March 29, 2014, 2:27 GMT)

I understand that Dhoni has won the Toss 15th consecutive times. To win a toss you have only a 50% probability. To win all the tosses for 15 matches, what is the probability? It's like wining a lottery. If the toss is asymmetric, then you can guarantee then every time you toss it, it will be one outcome. Also as you may know, Captains are either 'Head' captains or 'Tail' Captains. Every time they call the same thing. Dohni is a "heads" captain. So if Dhoni is calling the toss, all you need is an asymmetric 'head' toss. If other captain is calling the toss, all you have to do is , find out what he calls at tosses and manufacture asymmetric 'head' or 'tail' toss. Im not saying that there is anything fishy, but when someone wins the toss every time, it doesn't sound correct.

Posted by Happy_hamster on (March 29, 2014, 2:18 GMT)

A very accomplished and one sided win by India looking likely tournament winners, is it just me or does anyone else think winning 15 tosses on the trot fairly is unlikely (14 on the trot is 16000/1, I couldn't find odds on 15)

where are those voices of ppl listing the probable qualifiers for semis??? AUS(Almost out of the tournament), SA( Choking against minnows, though Iam big fan of SA), SL(cannot defend the target of 170++ against the team low in confidence and stumble against spin), and All time T20I semis the great pakistan(lost the match against arc rivals, yet to face the defending champions so any thing can happen) and knowing India's strength in cricketing experince and specially in this format ppl dare to even talk about India's chance.. As Sammy said "Talk is cheap" cricket is a game of action that you can see virtually how India outplayed the other teams so far... Well played India and slapped in the face of wrong criticis!!! ppl should mind before they producce any noise coz spoken words cannot reterive back...Better luck for the wrong predictors... @King Rawan- It doesn't matter if It's till Monday or the whole year.. Srilanka has been displaced from no.1 to no.2 by India.. So far India looks the most balanced and strongest side in the tournament, They do not have major issues to address just defending a total and Yuvi and Dhawan's form.. Form is a fickle mistress but in t20 cricket form doesn't matter much as one shot can get you back on track.. Sm ppl are still finding faults in this team saying luck has been the major factor..Luck is smthing that's not in Dhoni's hand..He's just lucky like other lucky ppl.. All the teams wud like to have that luck to implement their plans and take the advantage home to win matches..what's wrong if India's doing the same? This "Hate India campaign" has to stop cz a better team is always a better team..India reached the semis after seven years and this time we will go all the way to lift the world t20 trophy again! Sm teams are still not sure who's gonna b the captain of their team like

Posted by Liyanage.1283 on (March 29, 2014, 1:51 GMT)

@ Right_Choice_Babay , your comment that India is lucky to not yet chase 140 makes no sense to me ... you talk as if India outsources bowling to some other team .... Its because of great bowling against great T20 teams like Pak and WI that India is chasing <140.

Posted by espncricinfomobile on (March 29, 2014, 1:51 GMT)

i think, kohli, rohit sharma should be rested in the next match and binny, rahane should be given chance, bhuvaneshwar could also be rested. Yuvraj should be given to bat most of the overs in the next match, perhaps send him at no.3

Posted by Liyanage.1283 on (March 29, 2014, 1:46 GMT)

@ king Rawan, I'm so surprised to hear this from you even after our team lost to an ordinary T20 team like England (No doubt at all that Eng are a great Test team, but not so in limited overs format). It is because of fans like you that there are unneccesary hype around our SL team.

Posted by lazyone on (March 29, 2014, 1:42 GMT)

India is the best team in this worldcup. Their batting is always good. Now the bowling is much better. Definitely they are the favourites. Congrates from SL

Great to see the is not disturbed by what is happening back in India. Once again msd proved how calm and cool captain he is. He did not let the controversy affect the teams performance.

An example of Clinical difference shown between our mediocre SL team and class indian team is shown in this T20 WC.

Its because of over optimistic SL fans that there are lots of enmity between fans of various countries. If we arelittle pragmatic about the quality of SL team, this place would be a great place for discussion instead of fights. I hope SL makes it to semis but better to not face India there.

Indian lads so far has looked good. If Dhoni's luck does continue in the next game, I'd wish he opt to bat, and test and prepare our bowlers for dew. Fans shall relish the current performance but one must not forget our recent overseas performance and upcoming tour to England. It is clear subcontinent teams struggle overseas and the vice versa! Good luck for the semi-final. And lets win the 2014 T20 Cup!

Posted by wapuser on (March 28, 2014, 22:03 GMT)

As a Pakistani, i have all praises for Indian team. Well played India. Looking favourites. Their so called weakness( bowling) is turning out to be their strength. Almost all the teams have been thrashed except India and thats a huge achievement. Good luck to them

Another solid victory for men in Blue. Hope to meet Srilanka for semis to take the revenge of Asia cup! already settled the scores with Pakistan in the first match. Go men in Blue, you are the real champ prove it one more time and let the bashers hide there face again. Keep it up, Virat, Rohit, Amit was amazing as usual

Posted by Cricmot on (March 28, 2014, 21:30 GMT)

Congrats team India. India's serious concern is form of yuvi and dhawan. Dhoni has to sort out this issue by replacing one of them with rahane, though rahane doesnt inspire confidence with the bat but we are left with no choice. I like Bangladeshi fan's passion for the game. It's amazing to see the stadia filled with their enthusiastic spectators. In very near future, Bangladesh is going to be a major force in world cricket. Congrats team India. Best wishes for Bangladesh for the remaining two matches.

Posted by dulabhai on (March 28, 2014, 21:26 GMT)

Bangladesh is back to the same pathetic and sorry show again. The problem with BD is that there is not a single problem. They have lots of problems. First, BCB is run by someone who has no clue about cricket. This guy was appointed by the prime minister. He got the job not because he knows or loves cricket but the PM wants to put her people everywhere. Second, the opener Tamim Iqbal produces no results but he keeps playing. Why? Well, because he is the nephew of chief selector. Third, the players. They lack motivation and experience. They don't want to learn either. They keep making same mistakes over and over again. They are also too proud of themselves. Fourth, but definitely not the last, is lack of infrastructure around the country. Everything happens in Dhaka. And no body cares about it. You ask, why? Well it goes back to my first point, the guy who runs the show doesn't have a clue about cricket. So, what do you expect?

Posted by Ain_EL_Sabet on (March 28, 2014, 21:23 GMT)

when india plays well it happens to be only in sub-continent condition, if this tourny were held in Australia might have been a different story for them. Anyway , india looking good to go but I think they should replace dhawan for big games. Tamim Iqbal proven over and over he performs once in 16 games , imrul kayes is better than him and Bd should bring kayes in place of tamim. This talented anamul kid seems like he will become a world class player soon .

Posted by Jkvas on (March 28, 2014, 21:20 GMT)

As said an easy win for India again, that's so far because of great bowling that spinners have produced. On other hand all low scoring games have given Indian batsmen enough time to settle and playing safe strokes. so far team has not been seen playing under pressure ... like innings played by Alex hales n others in WT20, Also Middle order has not been tested yet...

Better for india to bat first in coming match vs Aus to put a decent total on board or Australia could set a challenging score where Indian batsmen urged to go for bigger boundaries, that will help to face/beat teams like ENG, SRL in finals.

Posted by kc69 on (March 28, 2014, 21:17 GMT)

Now India will have its eyes on other group and would fancy themselves to face SL.Because SL bowling is handled by India very well. However Pak vs BD match has become crucial as BD will have nothing to loose and playing for pride wheras a loss for Pak will make it tougher for them.Beating WI still can get them knocked out (Windies have the best NRR in entire group).

Posted by RD_INDIAN on (March 28, 2014, 20:55 GMT)

Hope NZ dont play against india. If i am not wrong india have never beaten NZ in t20I. Dhoni should consider giving a bowl to yuvi if he plays the next game and india is bowling first.taking a wicket or 2 will boost his confidence and if he gets hit he might take out the anger while batting and get back into form. If it doesnt happen dont think theres a lot to lose as the indian batsmen need to be challenged with a stiffer target.

Posted by scorpian19 on (March 28, 2014, 20:42 GMT)

With this win,India is now No. 1 Team in the world T20.

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 20:35 GMT)

could all this happy thins go against India 1) toss 2) bat 1st 3) kohli / sharma out early ( can't fall back on yuvi/ jaddu / dhawan) 4) bowl wit dew. 5) sri Lanka as opponents well hope n pray India go home unbeaten

Posted by KrikIndFan on (March 28, 2014, 20:32 GMT)

Some of the comments and "suggestions" are funny as hell. To all India's "well-wishers", Why on earth would Dhoni elects to bat first considering the due effect later? If they are confident to win every game and reach semis why would they care about NRR? If Kohli & Rohit are alone capable of chasing any target & if Mishra, Ashwin, Shami are clicking why do we need Yuvi to bowl or bat? If Pak, BD, WI are not capable to win against India or even come close why would India fall to their level and give them a chance to win? THIS IS WORLD CUP, and everyone's here to win. So far India is doing exactly what is needed to do that. They have won 3 WC trophy. And don't be surprise if they adds number 4 on Apr 6th.

Posted by ProdigyA on (March 28, 2014, 20:31 GMT)

Now that India is into the semis, I think if India win the toss again against Aus, they should bat first, since it is a dead rubber. See what kind of total India can put as they were batting without much pressure till now chasing small totals with the help of some good bowling from the spinners specially. It would also be a Test to the bowlers, how they perform under pressure.

It would also be a good idea to give a chance to Rahane and see how he performs, but knowing Dhoni, he will not change the playing XI.

But what if Rahane fails, then who do we select for the semis. Rahane with the failed and only one match experience so far, or Dhawan totally out of form and after being dropped vs Aus, short of confidence too. So I think Dhawan will not be dropped.

Posted by   on (March 28, 2014, 20:27 GMT)

It has been three easy games for India, and this tournament seems to be following the path of the Champions Trophy last year. While Pakistan always chokes in World Cups against India, we have been lucky to have faced a relatively sedate West Indies batting line-up (although a lot of the credit needs to be given to our bowlers). India's biggest test in probably the rest of the tournament now will be against Australia. They're a tough side that is unlucky not to be qualifying for the semis. No doubt the likes of Warner and Maxwell won't take a step back to our bowlers. They'll be coming out all guns blazing unlike our 3 opponents so far and it's then that our mettle will be tested. That game will serve as a perfect warm-up for the knockout stage.

Another stroll in the park for India; certainly hard to look passed them as favourites for the tournament. BD didn't roll over and die at least, so that is commendable; but it's going to take a super team performance to rattle these Indians.

Let all indians find rejoice in these fluke wins in home conditions where in reality we all know what this Indian team is made off, bunch of overrated personals. I urge all the indians to please not to behave like you have won the WC. Still you got to play finals. Even with all these three victories india team don't look one bit threatening even in conditions suited to them. Add 20 more runs to all these 3 matches and I would be intrested to see how this weak indian batting chase that.

I still feel that India has a huge unsolved problem in opening pair. India should get an alternate regular T20 Opener. Dhawan - a full time opener - failed in all 3 matches. India need to solve this problem rather than converting others into this job. It is crucial for the Indian batting. My best bet is Uttappa who has been scoring heavily during the past 5 years in T20 + ODI, as an opening batsman. He is 28 & scored consistently even this year. Without a big opening stand, Kohli- the most reliable batsman- will be under lot of pressure which is not a good sign. Kohli has performed in all 3 T20 matches in 2014 WC. If Uttappa & Dhawan open, Kohli, Rohit, Raina & Dhoni will be solid 4 bats lower down. Alternately if Uttappa & Rohit open Rahane or Yuvraj can play @#5. Sooner this change is made, the better ot is for India's future. Indian pace alternatives need playing time too before England/OZ tour - Test Aaron, Pandey & Yadev . Shami already appears to have "Tired Arm"- needs rest.

Posted by sweetspot on (March 28, 2014, 18:20 GMT)

What is incredible at the end of this match is only that Netherlands players top both bowling and batting charts!

The rest of the proceedings are pretty normal traffic on a cricket field.

Fifteen tosses won in a row. MSD can set some ridiculous statistics!

Posted by Temuzin on (March 28, 2014, 18:15 GMT)

BigINDFan: So Jaddu bowled 4 over for 30 runs today. And you said he gave extra 20 runs to the team. That means You expect Jadeja to bowl his 4 overs for less than 10 runs. Boy you expect too much.

Posted by Cpt.Meanster on (March 28, 2014, 18:13 GMT)

Hahaha... seems some of the SL fans are out in force here. Enjoy your sour grapes. India are no.1 in T20s because of good performances. You should accept that simple fact. SL are still not through to the semis. They have to get past NZ and we know how dangerous the Black Caps are in these tournaments. Still as an Indian fan, I wish good luck to SL team unlike some of the SL fans who always wish India to lose. I hope India and Pakistan qualify for semis.

Posted by Temuzin on (March 28, 2014, 18:10 GMT)

So top 5 got a chance to batt at least a few balls in these 3 matches. Only Jaddu did not get a chance. He should get some match practice in batting just in case. I think Instead of Dhawan, MSD should let jaddu open against Australia. This way he will be prepared for matches in semi and final. Team India is doing good otherwise.

Would have been good had Yuvi come out at number 3 after dhavan got out. Hopefully in the next game, binny, rahane get a chance. Well good luck india for semi...lucky India getting through to semi and not to face the dew yet or chase above 140 or set a for total for opposition.

india are the favourites from here and no team could stop india from winning this world cup.

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 18:05 GMT)

I am surprised by the consistency shown by India in T20. Although I am not surprised our spin heavy attack is faring consistently well since the Asia Cup started. BUT our 2 main concerns - opening partnership and death bowling still continue to haunt us. A stronger batting side like Aus/SA could really make us pay for poor death bowling.

Posted by Nampally on (March 28, 2014, 18:03 GMT)

India Coasted to third victory in a row vs. BD. It was just a one sided match & BD was totally outplayed. India managed to keep their opponents below 140 so far in ALL 3 matches. India also won the Toss & fielded first in all 3 matches. Kohli, Raina & Rohit Sharma were the 3 consistent batsmen- Rohit after failing in the first match got 50's in the last 2. Dhawan & Yuvraj have failed in batting consistently. India has to test alternate options going into the 4th match before going on to Play off stage. Opening batting is a huge question mark. Will Rahane open the innings with Rohit or Dhawan continues despite his 3 failures? Shami has become consistently erratic in bowling! Has he been "over bowled & too tired"? Time for Aaron to step in to fill the void! Kumar is still feeding full tosses in the "death overs" @ 3/over! Dhoni reverted to Mishra in 20th over & he obliged with 2 wkts. + giving a 6! Opening bats + Yuvraj +Shami + death overs are unresolved problems for the 4th Match!

Posted by Kirchoffs_law on (March 28, 2014, 18:01 GMT)

@ vivk2025 - did you stopped following indian team after Newzeland debacle? Do not give advise to other national team fans, just because Indians are playing well.

Though, I am bit worried Indians haven't been stretched yet, hope aussies give us run for our money in next match. What a cracker WI vs. Aus was today.

Posted by BigINDFan on (March 28, 2014, 17:59 GMT)

India did everything well to ensure they are in the semis. It is frustrating that Jadeja was given 4 hours when he bowled pathetically against Windies and now against BD boosting their scores by at least 20 runs. The other bad decision is to keep Yuvraj in the team - he did not bowl, he did not bat, then why was he in the team? MSD should rest Kohli for the match against Aus and make Yuvraj either open the innings or play at No. 3. Yuvraj needs to prove his form against high quality Aus fast bowling, if he comes through its good for IND for the semis. If not drop him and pick Rahane or Binny or somebody who is more useful and can contribute the extra 20 runs that Jadeja seem intent on giving every match.

Mishra bowled really well but he needs to change his plan when bowling at the death - tossing up ball after ball may work against BD but he will go for 25 runs against other teams. He needs to vary his pace and length.

Posted by wapuser on (March 28, 2014, 17:58 GMT)

Lol! Group 1 turns out to be more twisted than group 2. They said at the start India wont make it, well folks we just did. Fans across the border were quite sarcastic when we lost in d Asia Cup, well to be honest the joke is pretty much on them, Now new theories have surfaced saying luck is playing a huge role bcoz we winning all tosses, well! Havent we heard of a saying "Fortune favours the brave"? India has shown time and again that when it comes to big ticket tournaments, we have the appetite to go all the way. Kudos Team India, and a word of caution: Yeah! we criticise our team at times because we have high expectations from them, but that in no way means that we dont support them when their backs are to the wall. We are intelligent enough to draw a line between blind faith and sensible support. see you guys @ the knock out.

It is indeed heartening to see India as the first team, gate crashing into the semis for the fist time after winning the First Edition of ICC WORLD T20 in 2007 !

Though all the three games India played so far, were all low scoring games , but India did play well, as sort of action replay. Amit Mishra continues to do well as usual.

Now let's not worry about who is going to play against us in the semifinal slot from the other group.Let us first proceed with the optimism to steal a win against the Aussie on coming sunday and try to make a clean sweep in the Group

Who knows, we might have the honour of being crowned the Champions for the 2nd time in the shortest version of the game just like the World Cup.Best of Luck!

Posted by IndianCoolGuy on (March 28, 2014, 17:48 GMT)

India became the first team to make into the semis in this tournament and also grab the number 1 T20 position. How many times India was in a comfortable zone like this in the past? A very few times. Most of the times India struck into situations like where India needs to win this by this margin or if this team wins on that team etc. Same team without MSD could not even make into finals in Asia cup and with MSD; it became one of the strong contender to win the cup. Looks like MSD again shaping his team well at right moment. And first time India's bowling unit has settled down well than the batting unit. There are three week areas for team India now. 1. Dhawan's form 2. Yuvaraj's form 3. Their bowling never tested in due conditions. Apart from these, there are no major areas which India needs to improve. Let's hope MSD overcomes these drawbacks and gets India the 4th ICC World Cup.

Posted by   on (March 28, 2014, 17:47 GMT)

Do not count Pakistan out. They have this knack of making miracles happen. THey could beat West Indies convincingly only to lose to Bangladesh. With Pakistan we know, a batting collapse could happen anytime. So I believe Australia will not lose heart yet. They have to hope Bangladesh beat Pak and Pak Beats Windies. Pak would be at 4, West Indies would be at 4 and Australia could have a chance of being at 4 too. Glad we qualified.

I am Indian, but that is not the only reason I'm glad India won today. If BD had won today (T20 is rather unpredictable) it would have been bad for Bangladesh in the long run. Everyone would be happy, all the mistakes that the team committed would be forgiven, nothing would change, fans won't demand anything better from the team, and they will continue with their mediocre ways till they beat a better team years from now (then the cycle will continue all over again). Look at even their superstar, the way Shakib got out IS BD cricket in a nutshell. Hopefully this failure will spark a fire under them and they will start to build a better team.

So many comments stating india won mostly because of dew. very simple logic if the opposition team had scored in excess of 160 or 170 and india jad chased with ease you could have complained, but the thing was different here. Teams colud score in excess of 140 against india. Why dont you accept indian spinners so far have bowled better than others. And while chasing indian batsmen just played to reach the target rather than trying any heroics. And to some jealous critics who blame dhoni for not batting first. Tell me if any other team would be generous enough to let go advantage of winning the toss. Another thing toss is based on could dhoni be blamed for it....

India is showing the world, when it comes to big tournamnets, they are the team to beat. Great show again.. come on India and MSD, show the world we are the best.

Another Comprehensive win. So it's 3 in a row for team India. Now that the first hurdle is clear, India should be looking at defending the target in their next match against the Aussies, which is inconsequential, as we are already in the Semis. This will allow us to assess our weaknesses if any while defending, and if we manage a win, then it will not only boost the confidence of the players, but also send a message to the remaining teams that our team is also capable of defending a target against the best team in the tournament. Overall it had been good planning and execution on the field by MSD and the team. This team deserves the Cup. All the best boys. BD should not be disheartened, but should look at the positives in this match. 1) Their batting did not collapse as in previous 2 matches. 2) They managed a better score than Pak and WI against the Indian Bowlers. Wish BD team the best for their remaining matches. Cheers!

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 17:37 GMT)

simple. India thro to semis. wi will be thro if they beat Pakistan. Pakistan has to win both. if Bangladesh bt Pakistan then Pakistan will need a huge margin to bear West Indies's NRR Oz are almost out as they gotta win both their and theyll want Pakistan to lose badly to Bangladesh and simultaneously beat West indies by a big margin so that 3 teams are stuck on 4 pts each n NRR comes into play.

Bangla are thro only in paper. .. the three teams on 4 pts (with WI n PAK) can happen to them too.. but their NRR is so low now that its highly improbable they thrash Aus and Pak by such huge margins to beat WI's Nrr ...

Btw, as an Indian supporter, congrats on reaching next stage. Job not done yet, as Dhoni aptly mentioned. Nothing less than a WC should be considered a success providing our not so good record in T20Is. That would be amazing to have though, all big international trophies at once, ODI, champs trophy and this now.

For all those who are speaking"India should have shown some courage by opting to bat 1st".......... Come on guys!!!!Its a game and should be played as per the rules but not by your whims and fancies... If a decision is good for the progress of the team, captain should go for it.Talking about integrity, principles and blah blah blah wont fetch you anything. If you get an opportunity.... try to gain the as much as u can from it.

Great Win for India..Congrats. For BD fans, do yourselves a favor and don't waste your money the next time your team plays. The way BD has been playing for the past several games, they just don't have the skills to beat any of the top teams. BD should play domestic games more after this knockout so that they can learn from the simpler and smaller things then maybe think about playing at the international level. I feel really bad for you BD fans, its really disheartening to see your own team performing poorly on your when they play next...stay home and save your money. Cheers to India...keep it up guys. The only threat to India from winning this CUP will be either WI or SL...

Posted by Presynaras on (March 28, 2014, 17:25 GMT)

Indian batting seemed to go slow, but if you look at the scoreline, India already reached close to 150 runs in the eighteenth over. Two more overs of slog, would have gotten us to one seventy five or one eighty, all with minimal fuss and effort. You have to appreciate Rohit and Kohli. And Ashwin was exceptional today. People seem to ignore his good performances and keep speaking about his bad. People are still saying he is in poor form citing his nz tour, when he was the leading wicket taker in the league stages of the Asia cup, ahead of even Malinga, Ajmal, Afridi, Mishra. Mishra is good, but don't belittle Ashwin. India should be happy we have two good quality spinners. Ashwin bowls in the pp yet he concedes around five economy rate. If you look at it, Bhuvi dropped a catch of Ashwin's bowling and the same batsman got out to Mishra the next over. If not Ash would have won the MOM against Pakistan as well. So don't underestimate his performances. Both are good. Support our guys.

You are saying that in the Pak Vs WI match, both Pak and WI will win? Please tell me how that is going to happen because I can't figure it out.

[Also, please deduce the sarcasm that I wish to imply while reading the post. Thank you.]

Posted by   on (March 28, 2014, 17:21 GMT)

Hi Amar_BW, here is the answer for your question... how india reached semifinal because there is a match between pakistan and Westindies where either one team has to loose at any cost so there is no prob for India, Let wish India to go forward....

And one more news now in ICC T20 Rankings India is on top occupied 1st rank....

Posted by cooljalz on (March 28, 2014, 17:20 GMT)

India should drop dhawan an play rahane as an opener and also should promote yuvraj up the order to allow him to clear the batting cobwebs. Yuvi's record against Aus speaks for itself. India needs all its batsmen firing all cylinders in semis & finals as an insurance policy. All the best to me in blue. We need u to win this trophy. Jai Hind!

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 17:20 GMT)

@Prince458: its not india's lacklustre batting, they played a risk free game as the target was very less. Their main goal is to win matches, not just go bang bang..and i believe that if india had to bat first, then their approach would have been different. so stop criticizing and try to appreciate the fact that india are a better team in this tournament thus far..

Posted by Cannondale on (March 28, 2014, 17:20 GMT)

@Amar_bw - WI has only one match left that is against Pak. Pak has 2 matches left, one against BD and another against WI. So either Pak and WI can get to 6 pts. whoever loses will remain at 4 pts . (assuming Pak wins against BD). So only two teams can get to 6 pts in this group, one of which is India. So Ind in semis already.

Posted by philipsmgp on (March 28, 2014, 17:19 GMT)

Amar_bw do u really follow cricket mate. The next match is between windies and pak, if windies win they have 6 points. if pak win they have 4 points with a match against bangladesh and windies finish with 4 points with no more match to play. Simply saying only one team either windies or pak has the oppurtunity to get to six points. Aus and bangla have lost 2 matchs so noway they can get to 6 points. Understood.

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 17:19 GMT)

@amar_bw--if pak win next two matches then WI out of the tournament...WI have only one more match its against pak can both teams win a same match nd knock out India...good joke mate...

Posted by vkumar_086 on (March 28, 2014, 17:18 GMT)

@zaknfs3....BD played poorly, i agree it, but where were you during India's matches against Pak and far India's bowling attack is looking best in tournament..not conceded more than 140 runs to any opponents

Posted by missionbegins2011 on (March 28, 2014, 17:17 GMT)

Great performance by IND. IND has completely demolished the group of death, such 3 easy victories for IND. Looking at the WI performance today i think it is hard to stop them now, trouble at the corner for PAK. WI will be the second team to qualify for from this group for sure.

Posted by   on (March 28, 2014, 17:17 GMT)

@Amar_bw cos of the apparent contradiction in your statement, one of them is possible but not both. Pakistan can win 2 matches, meaning windies will have to lose that. ( WI plays PAK in its only remaining match ). In essence, there is only team (pak or WI) that can get to 6 pts, but not both. India already has 6 pts, the result against AUS, India's last match is inconsequential.

Posted by British_North_America on (March 28, 2014, 17:16 GMT)

India was always formidable with their batting but as a Bangladeshi, I am surprised to see their bowling. The amount of turn Amit Mishra generated today was surprising. They will play all their matches in Mirpur and that will help them.I think spinning track is a disadvantage for Bangladesh when they play teams like Sri Lanka, Pakistan or India because the only way they can win is by posting a big total in a relatively good track and then restricting the opposition by disciplined bowling and fielding. What I see is we need another generation of players to be something substantial in cricket. We are now in the phase in which India was in early 80s or Sri Lanka was in early 90s.It will take at least ten more years to produce a Dravid or Herath. We can beat England, West Indies and New Zealand at home of course but will take lot more time to challenge Asian sides.

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 17:16 GMT)

@Amar_bw: If pak wins both their remaining matches, of which one is against WI, then pls explain how WI could possibly get 6 points as they have only one match left?

Posted by espncricinfomobile on (March 28, 2014, 17:16 GMT)

I think, rahane is waiting for a long time in the dugout than uthappa, and he is a better choice for a opener considering his experience in IPL.

Posted by   on (March 28, 2014, 17:16 GMT)

Hope Dhoni wins toss (again!) against AUS and choose to bat first.... want to see India scoring high with Kohli , Dhoni and co. hitting all around the park at the end...

@Amar_bw australia can't get 6 point even if they win remaining two matches cos now aussies point is zero and pak gonna face west indies it's a do r die match for them loser out of tournament

Posted by kahvas on (March 28, 2014, 17:14 GMT)

India has won all matches comprehensively. This goes to show the problem with bowling really well, India never had a challenging chase. Hopefully Aus will give a decent challenging total for India to chase. Drop Dhawan and bring Rahane in his place. This is the best opportunity to make changes to the batting lineup.

@amar_bw if pak win their 2 matches then how can WI win considering their last game is one of the 2 games that pak have!! lol

Posted by   on (March 28, 2014, 17:07 GMT)

@ Amar_bw One of the match pakistan has is against West Indies. So either one of these teams can win that match. At max one more team can win 3 matches as per the current situation. It could be West Indies if they beat Pakistan or Pakistan if they beat Bangladesh and West Indies.

Posted by DontMessWithZohan on (March 28, 2014, 17:07 GMT)

Although I like IND team and I am a fan of Virat Kohli, many times I feel that Indian batsmen are quite selfish in some aspects. I think the batsmen tend not to take much risk when the team is easily the winner of the match. If IND loses to AUS in next match and WI wins against PAK, WI certainly will be on the top of the table - with IND finishing on 2nd. From what has been played till now, India should end at #1 in the group. They should have won all three matches within 16-17 overs.

I don't know if I am right or wrong. But I think the players are giving more priority to personal records than where the team would end up. Yes, they are already into the semis and it does not really make a difference (as per tournament) if they end in 1st or 2nd in the group. But I think it does sound better for the country's name if their team end up at the top of the group. Right now, Indian batsmen are reaching to 40s at around 15-16 overs and they just try to reach to their 50 and finish not out.

Posted by SevereCritic on (March 28, 2014, 17:07 GMT)

Posted by tanstell87 on (March 28, 2014, 17:03 GMT)

@Amar_bw - India in semis because...if Pak wins next 2 matches against WI & Ban they qualify with 6 points then WI have no games left and they end up with 4 points

If WI beat Pak in thier next match then Pak go out as Ind & WI will be top 2 with 6 points assuming Paki beats Ban which takes Pak's points to 4...

So India have qualified of Pak,WI & Aus still have chance to qualify

Koddos to BD for crossing 100. I went back to 1999 when we used to be like that. Losing 14 years of somewhat progress within a span of 6 weeks is really amazing. Mashrafee said win against IND should not be regarded as upset. Although arrogant speech it felt good to see they are confident. Now look at them all heads down after a wicket. Grow up and practice and BCB should drop the entire team except for few players. But definitely Shakib, and Mushfiq has to go. Mushfiq for is school cricket captaincy and Shakib for not thinking about his team. Sometimes you got to pin yourself to the ground so that your team put 150/160 and you guys are capable of doing that. Practice hard for the next match and don't drop catches.

I suppose cant blame him for not disturbing winning formula, but we fans want exciting games, credit to India to win 3 games on the bounce and maintain consistency in a very unpredictable format! can they make it 4 out of 4 on Sunday??

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 16:00 GMT)

Bangladesh would do well to watch this innings and learn. No matter what the format, proper cricketing shots will always be a better option. BD batsmen need to learn how to pace themselves like Virat Kohli.

Come on MS show some courage and bat first for change, test your team strengths and give everyone a bat! India comfortably through to Semis, they have made every team look so easy so far, surely this cannot continue!!

Pak hav to beat bang well, they will have to play of their skin to beat WI, plus the week lay off will make them rusty, hope they don't take the bang game lightly!

Dhoni 11 has been successful in repeating this chase game for the third match in a row, I think he's afraid to setting a target now. If India will have to set a target in semis that will be a no brainer suicide by Dhoni 11 itself.

i dont understand wat shikhar dhawan is doing in team ..

Posted by Khalid.Wasti on (March 28, 2014, 15:46 GMT)

This is the Dhoni effect, it's actually him and his genius to utilize such a weaker bowling attack. The only thing he has done is remove the pace from bowling and pacers used as full swingers. He's successful doing this up until now.

BD is playing good cricket, its going to be tough for Indian batsmen...

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 15:35 GMT)

There is no way Ajinkya can do any worse. Time to drop shikhar.

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 15:31 GMT)

Its good to see Rohit Sharma looking to rotate the strike and play more positively.

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 15:31 GMT)

Its official. Shikhar Dhawan is a definately a worry for India.

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 15:29 GMT)

BD at last late order played with responsibility. Mahmudullah justified his inclusion and showed a solid t20 bating. Hope BD will good fight withthe ball. Good luck.

BD Team Bosses: Team BD needs an injection of moral boosting immediately to have any future. Their body language says it all. In future, lets try Anam and Zia open inn, Tamim comes in 3, then Mushi, Shakib, Nasir, Mahmudullah..... Hope the bowler do some good today. Go Tigers...

I think that a lot of people underestimate Bangladesh, while some maybe considering this a one sided game but Bangladesh may just pull off something unbelievable

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 15:26 GMT)

India did the right thing. we should first cement our place in semis then we can gamble to bat first after winning toss.

Amazing performance by the BD team, they managed to score 138 which is more than what Paks and WI did against the same bowling attack. At 3/21, it looked like a repetition of their last 2 batting collapse, but Anamul and their middle order managed to get them to a respectable total. Now the onus is on their bowlers and Captain to attack and take early wickets. Unless they take wickets at regular intervals, this will be just a walk in the park for the Indian boys. If they bat 20 overs BD don't even stand a chance. This is not going to be easy for BD, as their bowlers are now against the best batting (chasing) team in this group. All team India requires is a win here and they should take this chase easy as there in no question of NRR if they win here. All the best boys. Cheers !

Hey is time to put a final nail in Bangladesh coffin India India..

Posted by Dhali_BD_Fan on (March 28, 2014, 15:09 GMT)

Atten: BD Management: Ask/send Mushfiq in ahead of Shakib! Shakib is a great hitter but needs to come in with less balls left for him to capitalise on. He loses the shots when he tries to defend or play safe. And tell Mushfiq, there is NO need to go for a shot when ur team scored 11 runs in that over. Lastly, the only reason we reached 138 is because of two partnerships which had a loy of 1s and 2s. We need to do more of those, we could have 10 more runs if we chosr to take a single or two instead of going for a shot. - Somthing the Indian Batsman will not repeat! Look at Rohit's last innings!

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 15:06 GMT)

It looks like finally one batsman played tge game like t20 for bd. Thanks Mahmudullah for giving something to fight fo in bd total. You finally justified your inclusion in the playing 11 amidst harsh criticism. Now get going with some nice showings with ball and improved feilding efforts. Good luck.

With this performance it can be safely said that India have looked the best bowling attack by far in this tournament so far .Great to see Dhoni having confidence in Mishra .He needs to do the same to Bhuvaneshwar too .He never completes his full quota despite being better than shami at the death .We do not need any change in XI. Bowling especially is settled .Amazing bowling from India who were ridiculed the most by their own fans and also by fans of other countries .

INDIA'S CURRENT BOWLING UNIT - DON'T EXPECT WORLD CUP. If it wasn't for the below average batting from bangladesh, Indian bowling would have punished to every corner of the ground. Other than amit mishra and ashwin all the other bowlers were just bowling to finish off their overs without being to expensive. Worst and defensive bowling form India. It didnt get exposed completely because Bangladeshi's batted poorly, else good lord, this bowling won't win any cup for India leave alone a world cup.

Exposed India's bowling weakness in slog overs

Posted by   on (March 28, 2014, 15:00 GMT)

So, toss played a big role again in India's 3rd match. They won the toss and elected to field first, because its easy to bat in 2nd innings with dew factor. But their real test will be in the day/night match where they will lose the toss.

@ Franklin Boston Spotsmanship isnt about letting another team enjoy an advantage! Winning a match is very imp no matter the side ur playing against. A win here will seal a berth for India in the semis - that will be the first aim rather than leaving it all till the Ind-Aus clash! Everybody is here to win mate!

Posted by espncricinfomobile on (March 28, 2014, 14:49 GMT)

Shami is not a T20 bowler.Don't overuse him.

Posted by hasran on (March 28, 2014, 14:31 GMT)

How on earth kumar darmashena featuring on each and every Indian match.looks like India favour the decision making of this outstanding umpire.

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 14:29 GMT)

This is a World Cup, not a charity game. A professional side is not supposed to even give a pin-hole of an opportunity to the opposition.

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 14:25 GMT)

guys warming the bench should've been given a chance.. in case they're needed in latter stages of the tournament.. plus dhoni should've batted first. He may lose the toss in semi finals or finals and India would be without a feel of batting first and might end up messing an otherwise brilliant tournament for them!

Posted by ARJa on (March 28, 2014, 14:24 GMT)

Bangladesh are demonstrating why there were put in the qualifying group in the first place.

Posted by   on (March 28, 2014, 14:07 GMT)

I think BD have to focus on their own cricket rather criticizing other teams and players...bit surprising they still not able to produce even single world class player...I know now BD fans will says Shakib as world class but if i try to be honest he is good player but not world class player...

Posted by myStraightTalk on (March 28, 2014, 14:01 GMT)

Surprised with the unchanged side.. poor think-tank india have. Yuvraj Singh may not be bowling and batting in this game.. should have given a chance to some one in the bench. Remember Mishra grad the apportunity only after a long wait..

Posted by android_user on (March 28, 2014, 14:00 GMT)

I would have liked Dhoni to show some courage and sportsmanship by batting first and allowing Bangladesh to chase. This would've allowed Bangladeshi batsmen to show more enterprise in their batting because they would have known their target in this do or die match. I feel the match would've been more entertaining for Bangladeshi supporters. I suggest to the two remaining captains to battle Netherlands that should they win the toss, show btavery and sportsmanship in batting first and allow the Netherlands to chase. Remember, we the fans wanna see exciting cricket.

WI beat Aus.. why ... because they beleived - like they said, the team that plays better wins.. lets play a good game! Bravo West Indies! Thats how you snatch victory from the jaws of defeat - pleasure to see that performance and the excellent celebrations thereafter!

best of luck team india hope yuvraj will rock today....
