World T20, 6th Match, First Round Group A: Bangladesh v Nepal at Chittagong, Mar 18, 2014
World T20 - 6th match, First Round Group A
Bangladesh won by 8 wickets (with 27 balls remaining)
18 March 2014 - night match (20-over match)

The national anthems have been played. Bangladesh's was second and the crowd cheered when it finished. Mushfiqur looked up at the skies and then gathered his team around for a talk. Game time.

Subash Khakurel and Sagar Pun are Nepal's openers. Khakurel will take strike. He's only 20. Pun is at the non-striker's end. Mashrafe Mortaza has the new ball, opening the bowling from over the wicket. Two slips, he has.

Toss, 7.00 pm Mushfiqur Rahim has won the toss and Bangladesh will bowl in Chittagong. Word is that both teams are unchanged from their previous games. Nepal are No. 1 in the group, ahead of Bangladesh on net run rate.

Mushfiqur said he wanted to bowl because he expects there to be dew later in the night. Nepal's captain Paras Khadka doesn't think there will be a huge difference in the amount of dew across the innings.

James: "Mark, "realistically", I agree. But you can hope. And one of the joys of T20 is that the short format makes upsets more likely."

yousuf sarwar: "whats the reason behind the inclusion of farhad reza in t20 squad? i think mominul should play instead of reza. "

Bob: "As well as Nepal played against Hong Kong in the last game, I think the hosts will be dashing the Nepali hopes in the next 10 overs. The cricketing world would love to see this small nation do well though. "

6.35 pm Good evening and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's ball-by-ball coverage of the match between Bangladesh and Nepal in Chittagong. Both these teams won their first qualifying games, and the victor today will be almost certain of a place in the main draw. This is how the teams stand in the qualifying round.

Here is Mohammad Isam's preview of the game.

Nepal is an Associate country that has an abundance of cricket fans. However, to step up to top-flight cricket, the nation needs better infrastructure. Rachna Shetty's feature throws more light on the situation in Nepal.

Mark: "Realistically, this match should be as one-sided as they come. Bangladesh in front of their adoring fans against a side without much tradition at this level. I guess that the romantics would love a Nepal win to set up the last round of matches, but I fear that it is going to require a real Bangladeshi implosion for it to happen."

Abir: "On this pitch, 130-135 could be a tricky target. We got a match on our hand folks."

Mortaza's coming back for a tilt at the death.

18.1

Mashrafe Mortaza to Vesawkar, FOUR, that's too short and wide, Vesawkar makes room and slashes the ball wide of the fielder on the third man boundary

18.2

Mashrafe Mortaza to Vesawkar, no run, banged in short and Vesawkar is beaten on the upper cut

18.3

Mashrafe Mortaza to Vesawkar, 2 runs, short of a length again, Vesawkar slaps it over midwicket, he hasn't timed it well so the fielder at long on will be able to cut it off

18.4

Mashrafe Mortaza to Vesawkar, 1 run, in the blockhole, Vesawkar digs it out on the off side and sprints, Mortaza gets to the ball quickly but misses the stumps at the striker's end, Khadka would have been well short had there been a direct hit

18.5

Mashrafe Mortaza to Khadka, 2 runs, driven straight down the ground but not timed well, Tamim's pick up is clean but his throw is wide and the batsmen complete the second

18.6

Mashrafe Mortaza to Khadka, OUT, bowled him! Khadka moved across his stumps to trying and chip over the fielder at short fine leg. The length was too full for it, the line was too straight for it. Leg stump took a beating

End of over 19 (9 runs) Nepal 124/4 (RR: 6.52)

    • S Vesawkar 39 (41b 5x4)
    • Mashrafe Mortaza 4-0-23-1
    • Abdur Razzak 2-0-12-0

Binod Bhandari is the new batsman. Vesawkar will be on strike.

19.1

Al-Amin Hossain to Vesawkar, no run, that's full and wide outside off, a good tactic because the batsman moved far outside leg to make room and eventually he could not reach the ball

19.2

Al-Amin Hossain to Vesawkar, 1 run, full and straight this time, clubbed towards long off, that was in the air and close to the bowler's left hand but not really a catch

19.3

Al-Amin Hossain to Bhandari, 1 wide, that's a very high bouncer, Mushfiqur leaps to collect it after the ball passes high over Bhandari's head

19.3

Al-Amin Hossain to Bhandari, no run, Bhandari tries to scoop the ball over the keeper and misses

19.4

Al-Amin Hossain to Bhandari, no run, Bhandari slogs wildly at a length ball outside off and is beaten, he just needs to give his set partner the strike

19.5

Al-Amin Hossain to Bhandari, no run, once again he slashes outside off and is beaten. Why on earth aren't they trying to run a leg bye? Plenty of wickets in hand, two balls remaining. I don't get it.

19.6

Al-Amin Hossain to Bhandari, OUT, well, they have attempted the leg bye this time and Mushfiqur has scored a direct hit to catch Vesawkar short. Bhandari slogged in vain again and failed to connect.

S Vesawkar run out 40 (63m 43b 5x4 0x6) SR: 93.02

9.10 pm Al-Amin Hossain bowled a superb final over and conceded only two runs to keep Nepal to 126 for 5. It's probably not enough. There's a lot of dew and the ball is going to be hard to grip for Nepal's bowlers. Bangladesh definitely favourites to go to the top of Group A.

Ali Sajid: "57 dot balls in that innings. Just not good enough from Nepal. You cant expect to score big if you score no runs from 10 overs."

Mark: "Inexperience of playing at this level shows there. An extra ten runs could have made this into a useful target, but there was a bit of panic and only 2 off the final over. You can imagine Bangladesh making these very quickly unless the Nepali bowlers play a blinder and are supported by the fielders."

End of over 20 (2 runs) Nepal 126/5

    • B Bhandari 0 (4b)
    • Al-Amin Hossain 4-0-17-2
    • Mashrafe Mortaza 4-0-23-1
