World T20 - 17th match, Group 2

India v West Indies

India won by 7 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)

West Indies have taken the field, they have a real fight on their hands tonight, 129 is definitely below-par. Dhawan and Rohit are India's openers. Sammy is opening the bowling with Samuel Badree ...

There's some confusion about India's target - whether it is 129 or 130. I'm not sure about the source of the confusion. Umpires having a chat with Sammy and the batsmen. I think it is to do with ball number 17.6 in West Indies' innings, when Jadeja bowled a no-ball ... Simmons was caught on the long on boundary and the batsmen crossed over. Russell took strike the next ball, so maybe that ball should have been scored as two runs? A huge delay as a result ... I wonder what's going on. Just take a call and move on.

Sidban: "Why such a long delay for the 1 run? I know that can be important, but can't the umpire intimate the players during the play? The 1 run surely won't make a difference to the strategies of the two teams!"

So finally we have a resolution, West Indies' total is 129, and India's target is 130.

0.1

Badree to Sharma, no run, tight line and length on middle stump, defended on the front foot towards midwicket

0.2

Badree to Sharma, 1 run, nudged off the front foot towards square leg for a single

0.3

Badree to Dhawan, no run, a flatter, quick ball on middle and leg, Dhawan tries to turn the ball off his pads but misses

0.4

Badree to Dhawan, no run, a shorter length and Dhawan goes back to pull but can't beat square leg

0.5

Badree to Dhawan, OUT, lbw! That looked like it was missing leg though. Dhawan played back to a fuller ball that was much quicker and skidded on to him, he tried to chop at the ball but was beaten and hit on the pad. The ball pitched outside leg stump too, poor decision.

0.6

Badree to Kohli, 1 run, tossed up fuller on off and middle, Kohli drives to mid-on and takes a single

End of over 1 (2 runs) India 2/1 (128 runs required from 19 overs, RR: 2.00, RRR: 6.73)
V Kohli    1* (1b)      S Badree    1-0-2-1
RG Sharma    1* (2b)

This is an explanation of the Jadeja no-ball - When the umpires check a no-ball with the third umpire, the ball is considered dead once the catch is taken. Therefore, the run wasn't counted. Strangely, though, the playing conditions allow the changing of strike.

Krishmar Santokie to bowl, from over the wicket ...

1.1

Santokie to Kohli, no run, in the blockhole first over, dug out to midwicket

Siddharth Agraw: "I think the No-ball rule states that if a batsman is caught out on a no-ball, runs taken off the delivery would not be counted. Only the penalty runs would be counted. And the batsmen had crossed over before the catch was taken.. So, it was only 1 run then."

Rishi: "I didn't care much for Rohit's reaction to Yuvraj's dismissal. He himself is more than capable of drawing such reactions of mild exasperation with his gameplay on his bad days."

Amit Mishra is Man of the Match for the second game in a row. He took 4-0-18-2 today. It's only his third T20 international that too. "I've done a lot of hard work in the nets for my variations and I'm happy they are coming out well."

Lots of questions coming in about the last ball, the batsmen crossed before the ball reached the boundary so it is scored as a single ...

Darren Sammy: "We just didn't respond well enough to their spinners, it took us a long time. Credit to them, they executed well ... it was good to see our bowlers take it the distance to the last over, because net run rate could come into play. Not enough runs on the board but happy with the way the bowlers came back. We know what our top order can do, it's just one game, we have three to go. No panic button, we are going to regroup and come back in two days' time."

MS Dhoni: "We are playing well, so it doesn't really matter that everyone should get a chance, our bowlers have bowled well, they have been tested. In the coming matches the other batsmen may get a chance. We don't really have a banker, a bowler to bowl the 18th-20th over ... we are playing games to some extent, to see who is better suited ... It was important for Rohit to bat through, we all know the kind of batsman he is, on a pitch like this ... he will take plenty from this game. Let's take it one game at a time, no point thinking too far ahead, we could have finished it an over earlier but that was up to the batsmen in the middle ..."

So that ends a day of contrasting games. Australia-Pakistan was an explosive, high-voltage contest. India-West Indies not so much. Thank you for all your emails, do tune in tomorrow for more World T20 action. Cheers.
