World T20, 32nd Match, Group 2: Pakistan v West Indies at Dhaka, Apr 1, 2014
World T20 - 32nd match, Group 2
West Indies won by 84 runs
Played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur (neutral venue)
1 April 2014 - night match (20-over match)

7.30pm Dwayne Smithto face Hafeez, who is taking his time setting the field. It was Devon Smith against whom Hafeez had major amount of success.

7.20pm Bhargav Sura: "Can the real Chris Gayle show up today?" Gayle hasn't quite replicated his typical slam-bang approach in this tournament. Will that change today? wahaj: "unpredictable v unpredictable . gayle v afridi , narine v ajmal."

Time for the anthems. First up, Pakistan's. Next up, it is "Rally round the West Indies".

Simon: "@Syed You have to ask to follow the cricinfo commentary? #StrictWork. People in the office just seem to assume I know the score of whatever is going on..."

At last, someone defending Shoaib Malik. Basil: "@Barry Because Shoaib Malik has one of the highest averages in this Pakistan team and experience, this Pakistan batting lineup won't collapse with him in middle order"

7.10pm Rohan: "Both teams have the capacity to change the course of the match either ways at any point of time. Both can win from losing positions and lose from winning positions. I strongly feel the team that is most likely to lose at the end of the 35th over, will win this match!"

Read Hassan Cheema's Haunted turns hunter. Summary of the piece is: Saeed Ajmal was written off after Michael Hussey smashed him in the 2010 World T20 semi-final. But he bounced back and how.

James: "Unless the dew is really bad, that looks a sensible decision from Sammy. Both batting line ups are a bit fragile, and might buckle under the pressure of the chase." Dew has generally not been as big a factor in Mirpur as it has in Chittagong.

Syed: "I had taken half a day off to watch the game, but work came up, so having to stay in office. Although did get the dispensation to officially carry on reading the commentary! #acheivement" Sounds like you have a kind boss.

Ali: "WHY Sohail Tanveer!!!! They can play Junaid if they wanna play him as a pacer or even Bhatti if they wanna play a pinch hitter..oh well. I'll just have to wait for him to perform."

Barry: "I don't know why Pakistan selectors keep on selecting Shoaib Malik...anyone??????" Anyone?

7.00pm Toss West Indies win the toss and they will bat. Sammy says he'd like to put runs on the board, and put Pakistan under pressure while chasing. West Indies unchanged.

Hafeez: "It is always difficult to set a total on a track like this." Pakistan are also unchanged.

Rk: "@Chris - I would hope good WI turn up so that we have a great match. Dont expect to win because other team plays bad."

Saeed Ajmal: "We are relaxing. No problem. The pitch is helping the spinners a little, we played all our games here, we know the wicket. Confidence level is very high." Ajmal also says that they have been practising with a wet ball so that they can cope with the dew, if there is any.

6.45pm Pakistan and West Indies have never played each other in the World T20, and have played only three T20s against each other.

Chris: "As a West Indian fan I hope "bad Pakistan" shows up today. Rally!"

Arnold: "For this game, for Windies I would drop Ramdin and let Simmons take the glove and bring in Rampaul."

Bilal: "The message before the start of the match from Pakistani players and fans to West Indies would be: " We sure DO like you mates , don't know who said no one likes you" " Ha, ha!

MeenaSathya: "In my WI team, i would prefer J Charles over AD Russell. I didnt remember any big performance from Russell, but J Charles played well in the limited opportunities he got. "

Some strong quotes from Darren Sammy a day ahead of the game. "Whatever approach we come with, we definitely have to rotate the strike. I think the game against India, where it was spin-oriented, probably 60% of the balls were dot balls, so it's something we've been working on." Will they be able to nudge the spinners around, and pile the pressure on themselves.

6.30pm Final league match of the tournament coming up. It's Pakistan v West Indies. Pakistan are the only team to have always made it to the semi-finals of the World T20. West Indies are defending champions. One of them will be heading home tonight.

This tournament has been all about the spinners, and the two teams have some of the finest T20 spinners around. The build-up has featured plenty of talk of Ajmal v Narine, two of the premier offspinners in the world, and West Indies have the father of the doosra, Saqlain Mushtaq, coaching their tweakers.

James: "The experts will tell you "this is a tough game to call". Which it is. What they mean, of course, is "I don't have a clue which version of either team will turn up today"."

Abdul Moiz Asla: "Didnt watch the previous match but by looking at the scorecard it seems this pitch is not for the spinners. Should Pakistan change from spin dominated attack to seam dominated one?" I'd say no, purely given how much West Indies batsmen struggle against spin.

Saeed Ajmal to Sammy, SIX, Sammy joins the party, a monster hit straight over the bowler's head, Ajmal being taken apart in this over, Sammy really enjoyed that, pumping his fist after that shot, ridiculous power behind that stroke

Saeed Ajmal to Sammy, FOUR, this time Sammy shows he can place it as well, not just about the muscles, sends this through extra cover for four, West Indies are flying now

End of over 19 (24 runs) West Indies 152/5 (RR: 8.00)

    • DJG Sammy 28 (15b 4x4 1x6)

Sohail Tanvir to Bravo, OUT, Bravo goes for a big swipe, loses his balance and can only bottom edge the ball onto his leg, the ball drops near the stumps, Bravo is on the floor, Sammy wants the single, Bravo decides to take on Kamran Akmal though he has lost his bat, Akmal hits direct, the end of the Bravo show, Tanvir was actually asking Kamran to not throw there

DJ Bravo run out 46 (37m 26b 2x4 4x6) SR: 176.92

Sohail Tanvir to Sammy, FOUR, a touch show and that is a powerful mow towards deep square leg for four more

Sohail Tanvir to Sammy, no run, this time Sammy doesn't connect, short of length ball sails over the stumps

Sohail Tanvir to Sammy, SIX, Sammy power to the fore again, six more, a flat murderous hit over long-on, he's now 38 off 18

Sohail Tanvir to Sammy, 2 runs, goes for another big one, but something of an edge here, the ball rolls towards midwicket, Russell pushes Sammy for the second, to make sure Sammy gets strike, Tanvir has to race across to field that, time enough for Sammy to get back

Sohail Tanvir to Sammy, 2 runs, bowled from wide of the crease, thumped towards deep midwicket for two more, 82 off the final five, 59 off the final three, and once again it is not the feared names at the top of the order that have delivered for West Indies, it is the allrounder lower down, West Indies end on 166, which should prove quite a challenge for Pakistan's batsmen

These numbers are incredible. Siva: "WI scored 84 in first 15 overs and 82 in next 5 overs." Raul: "DJ Bravo - 13 Runs from first 16 delivaries faced & 33 runs from his last 10 deliverers. #GameChanger".

Our stats man Shiva says this is the most runs scored against a full member team in the final five overs.

Nana: "This is Sammy's Best T20 Score. What a Way to get it"

Dwayne Bravo thinks West Indies have put on enough, talks about scorecard pressure.

Gajanan: "Who had issues with too few singles being taken.." Sammy, not listening to his own words, took only four singles. Pakistan wouldn't have minded him taking some more.

Akki: "I cant hit like this on a PC game with cheats on. Outstanding!!!"
