Irfan Pathan, who is suffering from a back injury, has been omitted from India's long-list of 30 probables for the ICC World Twenty20 to be held in West Indies from April 30.
R Ashwin, who was picked for the Twenty20 matches against Sri Lanka, features in the preliminary squad, that also includes R Vinay Kumar, Naman Ojha and Wriddhiman Saha.
Irfan led both the runs and wickets tally for Baroda in the Ranji Trophy, with 22 wickets at an average of 18.54 and 397 runs at 49.62 in five matches. But he missed Baroda's matches in the Ranji Trophy one-dayers.
Naman Ojha gets the selectors' nod on the back of his performances in the IPL as Rajasthan Royals' wicketkeeper. In 16 domestic Twenty20 matches, he averages 23.50, at a strike-rate of 125.09. More recently, he struck a strokeful 167 in a Ranji one-dayer against the Railways. Saha, who made his Test debut against South Africa in Nagpur as a batsman, is the fourth keeper in the preliminary squad that also includes MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik.
Manish Pandey, who became the first Indian to score a century in the IPL, also figures in the list. Pandey followed his IPL heroics with a string of consistent scores in the Ranji, Duleep and Vijay Hazare Trophies to force his way into the national reckoning.
The preliminary squad includes eight batsmen, four wicketkeepers, four allrounders, 10 fast bowlers and four spinners.

Irfan Pathan, I miss you so much... If Irfan is fit by the Twenty20 World Cup then he should better be in the playing 11, he is the best all-rounder we have. How many times have I heard MS Dhoni say at the post match presentation that "we are still looking for a fast bowling all-rounder" ? at least a dozen times. You does not have to be a really smart person to recognize that he is indirectly saying ""select Irfan Pathan"" Not sure if the selectors even listen to what he says at every post match presentations..... Also, I am not sure with what is going on with Robin Uthappa, everyone knows that this kid got some serious talent. He has already shone that he is a powerful hitter of the ball, which is the first thing a batsmen should have in Twenty20 cricket. We all have seen that now he plays more sensibly then he used to. Yusuf Pathan is playing just like how Robin Uthappa used to play. I know for sure that Yusuf Pathan will again get dropped, unless he starts playing sensible cricket.
Posted bysrikanth again is showing his true colours............he and dhoni always hav something against irfan. Irfan is going to play in the IPL, therefore he will get match practise. Also,he has been in really gud form both with bat and bowl and he has just been injured for a couple of weeks,not for an eternity. Injury is just an excuse for irfan's omission.

Posted by KARTHI.N on (February 28 2010, 09:06 AM GMT)I kindly urge others not to justify/support the selection of M.Vijay as it is purely a zonal(TN) selection.Kris Srikkanth @ his team should have picked Robin Uthappa/Chateeswar Pujara/Parthiv Patel instead of him as they deserve it better than M.Vijay as he is not certain of his place in CSK playing eleven in the IPL-3 and he is not a 20-20 player and yesterday's match proved that he has some technical problems with playing off the backfoot as he is a opener..

Shreekant..this is an Indian Team not a TN. Please look around at other states. Manish Pandye deserves...
Posted by mahi678 on (February 28 2010, 07:58 AM GMT)not a bad selection at all. the 15 members should be: dhoni, sachin, sehwag, zaheer, gambhir, yuvraj, kohli, raina, bhajji, yusuf, manish, praveen, vinay kumar, pragnan ohja and abhisekh nayar. dont select these players: sreesanth, nehra, mithun(see that his list A record is very bad), and mishra(only good in tests)
