Samuel Paul Meston, who formerly played for Gloucestershire and Essex, died in Vancouver at the end of January at the age of 77. Born on November 19, 1882, he played as an amateur in three matches for Gloucestershire in 1906 before appearing for Essex the following year. He played for Essex for only two seasons, appearing in seventeen matches, and scored 130 against Lancashire at Leyton in 1907. He was a right-handed batsman and altogether in first-class cricket scored 516 runs at an average of 15.63.
