Slightly built Richmond Mutumbami is an aggressive middle-order wicketkeeper-batter who made his first-class debut as 17-year-old. He struggled in his first few seasons but began to find his feet as the Zimbabwe franchise system developed and he became a regular for Southern Rocks.

Mutumbami was the highest run-scorer in the 2012-13 Logan Cup season. His 686 runs at an average of 49 were headlined by 150 against Mountaineers but that was not enough to earn him a trip to the West Indies with the national side. He was, however, included in their squad to face Bangladesh in the home series soon after and made his Test debut, batting at No. 6 and keeping tidily. All six of his Tests came that season and the next, but he was a regular in the white-ball sides through to the end of the decade and into the next, and made 74 against Afghanistan in a home ODI in 2015.
