Sham Nayyar was a gifted right handed batsman and all round sportsman who gave up a prospective career in 1st class cricket in India to pursue an engineering career in the UK where he arrived in February 1952. He played club cricket firstly for Camberley CC and then during the 1960s and 70s for Sunbury CC. He was a key member of the 1st XI for many years winning the National Knock Out Cup Final at Lord's against Tunbridge Wells in August 1974 and was a much respected player in the Surrey Championship. A courageous player who used his feet against fast and slow bowling he was a both competitive and gentlemanly opponent and team member.
