Peter Burgoyne, an offspinning allrounder, marked his first-class debut in October 2012 with an unbeaten century for Southern Rocks against Mashonaland Eagles in Zimbabwe's Logan Cup, a week after signing a three-year-contract with Derbyshire. The 19-year-old from Nottingham, who hit a maiden Second XI century against MCC Universities in August 2012, has been at the County Ground since age 13.

His opportunity in Zimbabwe came after Dave Houghton, the former Zimbabwe captain who is currently Derbyshire's batting coach, agreed to coach Southern Rocks in the 2012-13 season.

He made his senior debut in 2011 during a summer that also included eight appearances for England U-19, the highlight of which was his performance with the ball in a one-day match against South Africa in Canterbury, when he took 4 for 8 from 6.2 overs to help England to a two-wicket victory.

He made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in their three-day tour match against New Zealand in May 2013, before going on to play five Championship games. He also featured in nine limited-overs games for Derbyshire as he began to build on his promise.
