ICC World Twenty20 - 11th match, Group C

Sri Lanka v West Indies

Sri Lanka won by 15 runs

1.30pm We are all set to go, Jerome Taylor has the ball, Tillakaratne Dilshan on strike

1.25pm The teams walk out, each player accompanied by a child. They line up for the national anthems.

"Rally round the Windies" is aired first, then "Sri Lanka matha".

Chris Gayle may not be playing but he's still stealing the show here with some outrageously flamboyant yellow-rimmed sunglasses.

The Windies have a team huddle before setting off to their fielding positions. Meanwhile, Sanath Jayasuriya and Tillakartane Dilshan stride out to the middle.

George Binoy on why India press conferences are the hottest tickets going this World Twenty20 season.

1.20pm AJ from South Africa isn't too pleased with the X-man's inclusion. "I cannot understand why West Indies persists in playing Xavier Marshall. He scored one half century against Australia about a year ago and has done nothing of note at all since."

Clogs, clots, pro-wrestling and other fun stuff in Osman Samiuddin's look back at the Highs and Lows of the tournament so far.

1.10pm Twenty minutes to go for the first ball, check out S Rajesh's preview of the match.

Games with no purpose? Bring them on, says Andrew Hughes.

Seems to be a high number of wicketkeeper captains these days - Dhoni, Sangakkara, Netherlands' Smits, and we have the stand-ins McCullum and Ramdin.

Some fans writing in to ask whether points are carried over into the Super Eights, no they are not. Here's a helpful primer on how the World Twenty20 works, which George Binoy wrote before the tournament began.

1.05pm Sri Lanka: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Jehan Mubarak, Chamara Silva, Angelo Mathews, Isuru Udana, Ajantha Mendis, Lasith Malinga, Muttiah Muralitharan. No place for Nuwan Kulasekara again.

West Indies Lendl Simmons, Andre Fletcher, Xavier Marshall, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Denesh Ramdin, Jerome Taylor, Sulieman Benn, Fidel Edwards.

1.00pm Toss: No Chris Gayle, Denesh Ramdin wins the toss and chooses to field. Lendl Simmons has been included in place of Gayle.

Sangakkara: We are playing the same team, to try and gain some momentum. We would have bowled first as well, but it is a good pitch and we don't think it will deteriorate much.

12.50pm Welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the final day of the initial league phase, there isn't too much at stake for the teams with all four having progressed to the Super Eights. This is Siddarth Ravindran bringing you the commentary for the first game of the day, West Indies v Sri Lanka.

One worry for the West Indies is that their captain Chris Gayle, who was sensational against Australia, is struggling with a knee injury, still no news whether he will play today against Sri Lanka.

Simmons to Dilshan, FOUR, Dilshan seems to pull this ramp shot off every time he tries, superb stuff from him, another boundary, straight over the keeper's head

17.4

Simmons to Dilshan, OUT, Dilshan's holed out this time, he was gearing up for the reverse- sweep even before the bowler delivered, the ball's on middle and leg, Dilshan plays the reverse, only to find Benn at point, that ends a superb innings from Dilshan

TM Dilshan c Benn b Simmons 74 (82m 47b 11x4 1x6) SR: 157.44

Chamara Silva comes in, Simmons has four wickets

17.5

Simmons to Silva, 1 run, could have had another as Silva was too early into his shot, the ball is in the air for a bit but lands safely before reaching mid-off

17.6

Simmons to Mubarak, 2 runs, fullish on offstump, carved past point by Mubarak for a couple to end the over

End of over 18 (7 runs) Sri Lanka 175/4 (RR: 9.72)
J Mubarak    2* (1b)      LMP Simmons    3-0-19-4
LPC Silva    1* (1b)      DJ Bravo    3-0-18-0

18.1

Bravo to Silva, FOUR, pummelled down the ground with a flat bat by Silva, it was a shortish ball, Silva smashes it to long-on from outside off stump

18.2

Bravo to Silva, 1 run, this was much fuller, Silva shuffles across and hammers the ball from offstump to long-on

18.3

Bravo to Mubarak, 1 wide, attempts a slower ball, that slides down the leg side, a free run for Sri Lanka

Bravo comes over the wicket

18.3

Bravo to Mubarak, 1 run, lovely yorker that, Mubarak was fooled by that, just about gets his bat down in time, squeezed towards point

around the wicket now

18.4

Bravo to Silva, 1 leg bye, length ball which was going outside off with the angle, Silva wanted to get that to midwicket but is hit on the pads

18.5

Bravo to Mubarak, FOUR, that's a boundary, Mubarak takes a couple of paces down the track and swats that attempted slower ball towards midwicket

18.6

Bravo to Mubarak, no run, ends with a great yorker just outside off, Mubarak tried to guide that one down to third man but can't get bat on ball

End of over 19 (12 runs) Sri Lanka 187/4 (RR: 9.84)
J Mubarak    7* (4b 1x4)      DJ Bravo    4-0-29-0
LPC Silva    6* (4b 1x4)      LMP Simmons    3-0-19-4

Taylor to bowl the final over

19.1

Taylor to Silva, 1 run, slow full toss on middle stump, Silva can only work it towards midwicket for a single

19.2

Taylor to Mubarak, 1 run, bouncer this time, not particularly quick, it was pretty wide outside off, Mubarak tries to cut but gets a thick bottom edge

19.3

Taylor to Silva, no run, a wild swing from Silva, that was on a length just missing offstimp, Silva was eying the midwicket boundary, doesn't connect with the ball, this has been a great over so far

19.4

Taylor to Silva, OUT, and it becomes an even better over, Silva is gone, it was a slower ball outside off, Silva went for the cut, gets a fine edge, Ramdin has to dive forward to complete the catch

LPC Silva c †Ramdin b Taylor 7 (7m 7b 1x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

19.5

Taylor to Mathews, 2 runs, another slow bouncer 123kmh, 76mph, Mathews picks that one late, he pulls it towards backward square leg

19.6

Taylor to Mathews, 1 run, super over to finish from West Indies, that was on middle stump, the batsman walks across the stumps and flicks it down to fine leg

Sri Lanka finish on 192, a big score that but an even bigger one looked on the cards when Jayasuriya and Dilshan were going after the bowling. The West Indies bowling wasn't up to the mark, and the fielding was awful as well. Fidel Edwards, one of their main bowlers, was so poor that Ramdin used him only for a couple of overs.

Sri Lanka should win this one easily, given that they have Murali, Mendis and Malinga, and that West Indies don't have their main man Chris Gayle today.

Salman from Australia asks: "what a shame. Simmons didn't get 4th over. He might have got 5-6 wickets. Whats big deal if Taylor gives away couple runs less in the last over than Simmons in this non-consequential match?!"

Btw, it seems Abdul Razzaq could play a part in the World Twenty20. Click here for details.
