ICC Women's World Twenty20 - Final

Australia Women v New Zealand Women

Australia Women won by 3 runs

Hello one and all, welcome to the final of the ICC World Twenty20. Australia were roundly thrashed by England earlier on but their women now have the chance to regain some pride as they take on local rivals New Zealand. I'm Sahil Dutta, I'll be joined by Liam Brickhill and Andrew Miller to bring you all the thrills and spills of what should be a tense final.

Australia have landed the first blow - they have won the toss and will bat first. New Zealand have been the form side of this tournament and have beaten Australia quite regularly recently.

AJ Blackwell c Devine b Browne 0 (9m 7b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

14.2

Watkins to Elliott, 1 leg bye, pushed infront of square this time, and it's tip and run as they set off

15.1

Doolan to Healy, 1 run, OUT, dropped!, but it doesn't matter in the end, as the misfield convinced them to try and take a second run that was never there. The ball had been chipped high out to square leg, McGlashan fluffed the chance but zipped a return throw in very quickly to catch Healy short. And another Aussie wicket goes down!

AJ Healy run out 10 (8m 10b 0x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

15.2

Doolan to Sthalekar, 1 wide, that is a horrendous wide, tossed up high and way down the leg side. Yep, that one definitely slipped out wrong.

15.4

Doolan to Sthalekar, 1 run, swept this time, and the deep midwicket fielder cleans up

Doolan to Elliott, 1 run, another full toss is floated down, and this time it's crunched down to long on for one

15.6

Doolan to Sthalekar, 1 run, nudged leg side once more, and they sprint through

What Australia really need, though, is to hit the boundary

End of over 16 (5 runs) Australia Women 76/6 (RR: 4.75)

16.1

Broadmore to Sthalekar, 3 runs, good shot! Great placement on a cut to a short, wide ball to beat point and gully. It's cut before the boundary though, so just the three

16.2

Broadmore to Elliott, no run, full and slapped straight to extra cover

16.3

Broadmore to Elliott, 1 run, full again and pushed down the ground, this time to cover's right and long off hurls the ball back in

16.4

Broadmore to Sthalekar, 1 run, slog-swept across the line out to deep square leg

16.5

Broadmore to Elliott, no run, she danced down the track but ended up very nearly yorking herself in the process. The ball dribbles back to the bowler

16.6

Broadmore to Elliott, 1 run, too much width given, and it's punched hard off the back foot out to the cover sweeper

End of over 17 (6 runs) Australia Women 82/6 (RR: 4.82)

17.3

Doolan to Elliott, 1 run, trying to find the boundary with a lofted chip shot, but couldn't get enough power or timing into the shot. Luckily, as the ball fell just short of the fielder on the boundary at midwicket

17.4

Doolan to Sthalekar, 1 run, chopped down behind square on the off side. Short third man sprints round but they take the run

17.5

Doolan to Elliott, 1 run, smashed down the ground to long on

17.6

Doolan to Sthalekar, 1 run, another full toss, and it's pushed out on the leg side towards midwicket for another single.

18.1

Devine to Sthalekar, FOUR, shot! That's great batting from Sthalekar! It was a full toss, and she stayed deep in the crease, getting across her stumps to paddle the ball powerfully over short fine leg, one bounce and over the rope!

18.2

Devine to Sthalekar, 1 run, wide of off this time. driven out to the cover sweeper

18.3

Devine to Elliott, 1 run, off the outer half of the bat and along the ground down to third man

18.4

Devine to Sthalekar, FOUR, another great shot from Sthalekar, who is doing her best to get Australia to a competitive total here. She took a half volley on leg stump and lifted it beautifully over wide midwicket, beating the fielders on the boundary for another four

18.5

Devine to Sthalekar, 1 wide, Sthalekar's moving around a lot in the crease before the ball is bowled, and it's just messed with Devine's rhythm a touch here, as she fires one very wide of off

18.5

Devine to Sthalekar, OUT, No mistake this time! Sthalekar moved right across her stumps again, hoping to paddle the ball past fine leg one presumes, but she left all three stumps exposed and Devine fired in a yorker, full, fast and straight. Clatter!

LC Sthalekar b Devine 18 (9m 13b 2x4 0x6) SR: 138.46

18.6

Devine to Farrell, 1 run, ooh, good yorker there, but she's got some bat on that and at this stage they've got to take the single, which they do

Doolan to Farrell, 1 run, high full toss from Doolan, and it's heaved away on the leg side, but not a boundary!

19.2

Doolan to Elliott, 2 runs, smashed down the ground, and manic running somehow gets them two. They could have been in trouble there, but the throw was not ideal

19.3

Doolan to Elliott, 1 run, punched down the ground again. This time the fielder is in very quickly and they are kept to one

19.4

Doolan to Farrell, 1 run, she comes down the track to take the ball on the full, powering it down to long on

19.5

Doolan to Elliott, 1 run, Doolan is dishing up the full tosses here, but they're proving difficult to get away. This one is tapped down to long off

19.6

Doolan to Farrell, OUT, brilliant catch from the New Zealand captain! The ball was full, Farrell tried to smash it over the covers but Watkins timed her leap to perfection to pluck the ball out of thin air as it sailed over her.

RM Farrell c Watkins b Doolan 3 (3m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 75.00

SD thinks he's spotted the flaw in Australia's plan: "I don't understand why they did not send Sthalekar earlier. With her experience she would have certainly stabilised the innings. For some reason she has been batting so low in the order that she does not have many balls to make impact."

Great end to the innings for New Zealand, and they will fancy their chances of chasing down what is a somewhat sub-par total from the Australians. They were in trouble from the start, and lost wickets regularly right through the innings. Leah Poulton kept them going in the middle overs, and Lisa Sthalekar's cameo at the end took them past 100. As always, we have a mid-innings bulletin for you, so do have a look at that for Peter English's indepth take on Australia's innings.
