Reg Routledge played for Middlesex in the decade after World War Two, never securing a regular place in the side. Initially a tailender who bowled seam, he became a middle-order batsman, although his best bowling return, 4 for 29, came at the end of his career. In 1951 he made the first of two hundreds, but in 15 matches that year he made only 196 runs at 17.81. In 1953 he had his best season, his 453 runs coming at 26.64 including a career-best 121 against Worcestershire. He was released after a poor season in 1954.
