Zimbabwe Triangular Series, 6th Match: Zimbabwe v Sri Lanka at Harare, Jun 7, 2010
Zimbabwe won by 8 wickets (with 13 balls remaining)
Played at Harare Sports Club
7 June 2010 (50-over match)

Hi there. Welcome to the preview to the finale- Zimbabwe v Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe have played two fab games against India but had an off day against Sri Lanka. As their new coach put it - "Frankly today we were rubbish!". So this game, a dead rubber, should make for interesting viewing in that context.

Pitch report Neil Manthorp reckons it shouldn't matter if you bat first or bat second on this track. Allan Donald, in the Ten Sports studio, thinks it looks a beautiful wicket and there shouldn't be much moisture in it. The ball might stop a touch on the batsmen in the early part of the game.

Toss Zimbabwe chose to field.

Chigumbura "It has been a good wicket. We have been bowling first and winning. We want to stick it. We just want to do what we have been doing. Blignaut and Greg Lamb are out because of some niggles. Chamu Chibhabha and Chris Mpofu are in. "

Dilshan: " I wanted to bat first today in case we lose the toss in the final. I want to see how many runs we can score and how the bowlers defend. I think 260+ is a good score. Kulasekara and Mendis are being rested. Lahiru Thirimanne and Dilhara Fernando are in."

I only faced some 70 balls through one whole day. He would hit four, four, six and somehow, miraculously or by some accident, take a single and I would get one ball. Oh, it was great! I could see he was very drunk. He taps me on the shoulder and says, "Yuvraj, how do you bat?" And almost falls on to me after saying it. I said, "I bat left-handed". The others started laughing. He said, "No, no, no. How do you hit the ball so far?" He was about to fall down. He said, "My son tells me the way you clear the ball..." and when he said "clear", some alcohol spurted out of his mouth and hit me straight in the eye!

"I almost fell down, and of course everybody nearly fell down laughing. His friend came and took him away. I had to go wash my eye. It was red all night."

Drinks break.

Sameera: "We shouldn't spoil Chandimal's future sending him as finisher or lower down the order. He's genuine batsman with aggressive batting style, play him up in the order or don't play him."

Shanthi: "with regards to Dinesh Chandimal's case, they should stick with their initial plan to send him with SL -A tour to Ausiland. Remember this is a place where Sri Lanka have failed to show their true potential. Rencently an U-19 side did well there and by allowing DC to take part in this forthcoming A tour will allow him to get much needed experience in playing in bouncy aussie pitches."

Utseya to Dilshan, SIX, Almost caught at long-on Dilshan rushes down the track and lofts to long-on. Mpofu back-pedaled near the boundary and stepped over the boundary as the ball sailed over

Something from the SA allrounder Albie Morkel: "Is there any one thing your captain tells you not to do that you still end up doing?

The captain says "Back yourself, back yourself," after every delivery, but sometimes as you charge in and just before the last step, you see the batsman move and you get distracted. That is the most common thing. "

However, Siddons publicly states time and time again that "mediocre" performances are fine, as long as progress is booked. Batting Powerplay on

Karthik: "What is there in these Zimbabwe spinners... They are not vicious turners of the ball, they dont have as many varieties as other top spinners claim to have, they dont have many mystery balls, yet they currently are the most consistent spinners with pretty stingy economy rate, ability to constantly choke the batsmen, and keep taking wickets at regular intervals!!! Hail them..Take them to the academy, make them the bowling coaches!"

Meanwhile Chris Mpofu to bowl

Mpofu to Thirimanne, 1 run, moves outside leg, Mpofu follows him with a length delivery ,dabbed to square-leg

44.2

Mpofu to Perera, OUT, Another celebration .. this time like Brazilian footballer Bebeto ... It was the full delivery, almost a yorker, which has taken out the middle stump. The batsman was looking for the big hit. Mpofu does a movement like Bebeto - as if he is cradling a child

DT: "i think Graeme Swann of England has shown time and again that you don't need bags of mystery balls or right angle turn to get wickets as a spin bowler. "Old school" line, length, and flight...as well as cunning can do plenty. The Zim spinners' discipline and aggression has been exemplary."

Brendan from Auckland: "Well all I can say (even if it is a deadrubber) that this game is now a surprise package, it most certainly wasn't looking like that in the first half of Sri Lanka innings - 300+ looked inement. Zimbabwe now have every chance of cleaning up Sri Lanka's tail and chasing a total of 240 which they have proven is a very chasable target against India. I fancy the home team! "
