Richard Ellis was an opening batsman who was in the Oxford side for three seasons between 1981 and 1983, captaining them in the middle year. In 1982 he scored 823 runs at 34.29, as well as making his Championship debut for Middlesex. But after leaving university he failed to repeat that form in county cricket. He subsequently played Minor Counties cricket for Hertfordshire and he also won Blues at rackets.
