Zimbabwe Twenty20 Triangular Series - Final

Zimbabwe XI v South Africa XI

Zimbabwe XI won by 9 wickets (with 17 balls remaining)

13:00: Time to start this final. Richard Levi and Hashim Amla to open. Kyle Jarvis with the new ball. Here we go.

12:30: Good afternoon and welcome to the final of the Zimbabwean tri-series. As expected, South Africa will feature. They will play the hosts. Unexpectedly, they lost two of their four matches on the way, one each against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

Toss: South Africa have won the toss and will bat.

The captain who has called correctly has opted to bat on every occasion. While that proved the right call early in the week, the team chasing has won the last two matches at Harare Sports Club. It's a fairly slow surface with some grip and turn, a typical Zimbabwe winter wicket.

Brendan Taylor thinks this will be a good challenge for his men and admits he would also have batted first.

Teams:

South Africa: Colin Ingram comes in ahead of Farhaan Beharidien and Chris Morris keep his place, which means no room for Marchant de Lange.

Zimbabwe: No changes to the side that lost to South Africa yesterday. Malcolm Waller keeps his place ahead of Craig Ervine and Elton Chigumbura is still in the XI.

South Africa have used this series to experiment with combinations and all the members of their 14-man squad have featured at some stage. Zimbabwe have stuck with a fairly set XI, as they look to build towards that World T20 in September.

0.1

Jarvis to Levi, OUT, on the money first up! Jarvis brings that in from slightly wide of the crease, Levi doesn't move his feet at all and he is struck on the front pad. It's a good, full ball, and a confident shout, that's given out. Levi is very unhappy, walks off shaking his head. Zimbabwe over the moon.

0.4

1.3

Mpofu to Amla, OUT, my, my, my! Zimbabwe's bowlers working to a plan here. It's short again and Amla likes to play at those. He pulls but there's a man out there at deep square leg. Malcolm Waller takes the catch and South Africa are off to a disastrous start.

Jarvis to du Plessis, no run, full and moves away, left alone to the sounds of Zimbabwe's crowd signing their famed "hey, hey, hey" song

2.4

Jarvis to du Plessis, 1 run, full and on leg-stump, Du Plessis moves to the off side and plays that to short fine leg, he has his first run

2.5

Jarvis to Ingram, 1 run, excellent delivery from Jarvis, full and on leg-stump, there's a stifled appeal but it seems Ingram has got a little tickle of the willow, if he hadn't he may well have been a goner

2.6

Jarvis to du Plessis, 1 run, yorker-length and it surprises Du Plesiss. He falls over as he digs it out to deep backward square, that's three overs with not a single boundary, good work from Zimbabwe

4.5

Utseya to Ingram, FOUR, outside edge and Taylor will rue not having a slip there, beats third man as well

Cremer back from Utseya's end now

12.1

Cremer to Morkel, FOUR, easy as you like! Short, not too short and he stands still and pulls. Well placed into the gap on the leg side and that's four.

12.2

Cremer to Morkel, FOUR, on leg stump and Morkel guides that past short fine leg, not the best delivery Cremer has ever bowled and Morkel's placement is good again

15.2

Muzhange to du Plessis, no run, in the blockhole and Du Plesis digs it out, Morkel has come a long way down the pitch and is sent back. He kicks the ball away as Muzhange tries to get to it, that would have been a sure run-put but he survives

17.3

Muzhange to Morkel, 1 run, same again, Morkel's get a touch on it to point. Du Plessis wants the run, Morkel has to hurry but the throw comes in at the wrong end and they both make it comfortably

17.4

Muzhange to du Plessis, SIX, the Du Plessis scoop on display again. Down on one knee, plays that over his shoulder, knows fine leg is up in the circle and gets the maximum. Albie Morkel, meanwhile, is receiving treatment on his quad

Morkel has had to run very hard with Du Plessis on the other end and he looks like he tweaked something. He's not up yet but seems to be getting there. This will be worrying for South Africa, Morkel will have to bowl as well later on. Back up but not looking his best, Morkel will continue.

17.5

Muzhange to du Plessis, 1 run, full but Du Plessis makes room and drives to long off and he jogs the single this time

17.6

19.1

Muzhange to Parnell, no run, doing what he does best, full, outside off and a dot ball

19.2

Muzhange to Parnell, FOUR, cute little flick on the leg side, was in the air for a while and Matsikenyeri should have stopped that, its gone through and that's a boundary

19.3

Muzhange to Parnell, 2 runs, better from Muzhange, fuller but Parnell times the drive to long-off well and pushes for a second, despite Morkel's injury

19.4

Muzhange to Parnell, FOUR, leg side flick again and finds the gap again, Taylor does not have anyone manning the boundary there and Parnell has pushed South Africa close to 140

19.5

Muzhange to Parnell, 1 run, full and driven to long-off, Morkel will face the last ball

19.6

Muzhange to Morkel, SIX, Morkel at his best. Full, he comes down the pitch to get under it, smacks it over long-off and into the stands. South Africa finish on 146.

Zimbabwe would probably have taken this score at the beginning. Join us shortly for the chase.

Faf: I really struggled in the beginning. I think this is the kind of wicket where its not easy to play shots. My role was to try and take the partnerships deep and not go too hard too soon. You've just got to hang in there, it's so easy to get frustrated. I think this is a par score.

A good recovery from South Africa then after the loss of Levi and Amla early on. Du Plessis was dropped once on his way to the top-score of this innings and Morkel partnered him well. Parnell ended it energetically as well. Zimbabwe started so well with the ball, led by Jarvis. Mpofu and the spinners controlled matters but Muzhange was expensive, especially in the final over.
