87.4

Robiul Islam to Masakadza, no run, bit of away movement, from way outside off stump, and those shall be left alone,

James: "One commendable aspect of today has been the Bangladesh over rate. They may even get in an extra over or two, which is probably the last thing they want!"

87.5

Robiul Islam to Masakadza, no run, makes him play again, that sounds so refreshing, one can forget it is the new ball given the way the seamers have bowled, he shuffles and blocks it down the track

87.6

Robiul Islam to Masakadza, no run, gets some lift from back of a length, but it is easily punched off the back foot towards extra cover

End of over 88 (maiden) Zimbabwe 262/2

Will this be the last over for the day? Here is Rubel and he goes through a mock run to the crease and that eats up some time, Bangladesh do not want to bowl anything more than the stipulated quota. There is a short leg as well, with helmet on

89.5

Rubel Hossain to Masakadza, 1 leg bye, hits him on the body as this one shoots from short of a length, Masakadza shuffled across looking to nudge it away fine, but took it in the ribs as he missed, that would have hurt

89.6

Rubel Hossain to Taylor, 1 run, slants it across Taylor from a length, he hangs beside the line to guide it through point, and ends a day that Zimbabwe dominated

Zimbabwe could not have asked for a better first day on their return to Test cricket. Everything went right for them apart from the toss, and the atrocious shots the well-set openers played. Bangladesh have themselves to blame after their three seamers wasted the new ball, twice, and in pretty cold and not entirely unhelpful conditions in the morning. This meant that that the two left-arm spinners had to bowl 37 overs, which achieved little more on a first day pitch other than allowing the Zimbabwe batsmen to dig themselves in and settle for the day. Join us tomorrow morning at 10 am local time (2 pm Bangladesh time). Till then this is Abhishek Purohit signing off for the day, and leaving you to sample Firdose Moonda's match report which is only the first among much more to come from our hard-working South Africa correspondent, who is in Harare for this Test

Simon sums up Zimbabwe today: "Hats of to Zim. They've dug in, played good solid cricket and are well on top. While they don't have the star players they used to like Streak and the Flowers, what they seem to have is a good honest hard working team."

End of over 90 (2 runs) Zimbabwe 264/2
BRM Taylor    40* (108b 3x4)      Rubel Hossain    18-1-58-2
H Masakadza    88* (203b 7x4 1x6)      Shafiul Islam    17-7-30-0

All set for the start of the second day's play, Bangladesh have a newish ball, and will hope to bowl much better that they did yesterday. Here is Shafiul

Dirk Viljoen doing the pitch report on air says that there is not much in the wicket for the bowlers and it looks to be a belter. There is some rough that is developing outside the left-hander's off stump though, and that could be a worry for Bangladesh who have four of them in their top six.

Ten years ago, a 17-year old Zimbabwe schoolboy became the youngest batsman to score a century on Test debut. He hasn't completely translated that tremendous potential into performance since then, but on the second day of his country's comeback Test match, Hamilton Masakadza stands 12 runs short of what would be only his second Test hundred. Will he get there? We shall soon find out.

Karim: "Masa always had the potential. Its going to be difficult to get him out once he gets that century.. "

90.1

90.4

Shafiul Islam to Taylor, no run, there again, much fuller length, very close to off stump, he does not drive with lots of purpose, just pushes it past the non-striker to mid on

90.5

Shafiul Islam to Taylor, 1 run, allows the ball to come in with the angle, and brings bat around pad to tuck it away to long leg

90.6

Shafiul Islam to Masakadza, no run, Masakadza begins from where he left off yesterday, this one holds its line outside off, but close enough to draw him forward, and he solidly defends towards cover

End of over 91 (1 run) Zimbabwe 265/2
H Masakadza    88* (204b 7x4 1x6)      Shafiul Islam    18-7-31-0

91.3

Robiul Islam to Taylor, 3 runs, clips a fuller delivery off his pads and into the gap between midwicket and mid on

Matt: "I'm a huge fan of the minnows, and I believe that the major nations (Australia, England, India etc.) should take a message from them. Here's a team, Bangladesh, bowling using several fast bowlers but yet were able to get in the full 90 overs in the day. Great over rate management by Shakib."

Lone wide slip, gully, deep square leg

91.4

Robiul Islam to Masakadza, no run, full delivery again, but around off, and makes him get forward and carefully push to extra cover

91.5

91.6

Robiul Islam to Masakadza, no run, similar delivery, Bangladesh have been considerably better in these two overs than they were yesterday, but Masakadza is leaving superbly

92.2

Shafiul Islam to Taylor, no run, better from Taylor, gets front foot and pushes a pitched ball towards extra cover

92.3

Shafiul Islam to Taylor, no run, looks to force this one from outside off past between the bowler and the non-striker, but his feet remain in the crease and he gets no timing on it

Shafiul Islam to Taylor, no run, holding its line now outside off, has to play at it with Shafiul angling it in initially from wide of the crease, but it is not full enough to trouble him too much, blocked away

92.6

Shafiul Islam to Taylor, no run, again not full enough, but at least he is bowling a much tighter line today, close to off, and looking to make them play, Taylor leaves though

93.1

Robiul Islam to Masakadza, no run, phew, how good a leave is that, pitches on off stump on a length, and then shapes away just a bit, but Masakadza seems to be in the zone as far as knowledge of his off stump is concerned, he lets it go without any fuss at all

Shishank: "I seriously feel that Test cricket should be between evenly matched countries. You dont want a series between say England and Zimbabwe where the minnows get thrashed. That would really lower their confidence. All the more need now to have two divisions in test cricket. What we are seeing right now is a nice balanced test match between evenly matched countries and a good advert of test cricket."
