Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100  | Overs 101-150

All set for the start of Zimbabwe's return Test under clear blue skies. Three slips a gully to debutant Tino Mawoyo

09.45 am Firdose informs us that the national anthems are being played at the ground.

Taylor: "Bit nervous but really up for the challenge. We would have bowled as well. Our top order will have to knuckle down for the first session." Four debutants today for Zimbabwe, not much of a surprise considering its their first Test in a long long time

Shakib: "The pitch is a good one but will do something for the fast bowlers on the first day. We are playing a Test after 14 months. We are really excited."

Here are the teams:

Zimbabwe: Sibanda, Mawoyo, Masakadza, Taylor, Ervine, Taibu, Chigumbura, Price, Jarvis, Vitori, Mpofu

Bangladesh: Tamim, Kayes, Nafees, Ashraful, Shakib, Rahim, Mahmudullah, Razzak, Shafiul, Rubel, Robiul

09.30 am Bangladesh have won the toss and will have a bowl on a pitch which has lots of rolled-in grass, and in conditions that are quite cold, colder if you happen to be from the sub-continent. Bangladesh have not played a Test for over a year, but their last series brings fond memories of Tamim Iqbal smashing the English bowling all over the park.

Our correspondent Firdose Moonda has gone north to Zimbabwe from South Africa, and she tracks the comeback of the highest form of the game in the country, finding out that there is a lot to cheer as she meets the young left-arm seamer Brian Vitori.

Meanwhile, Madhu, our man who loves numbers, has run his keen eye over Zimbabwe's performances over the past decade, from the competitive side they were during the days of the world-class Andy Flower to the days of their abject decline after the exodus of senior players.

With telling timing, Tatenda Taibu, one of the most known faces of Zimbabwe cricket, has voiced his concern over the issues plaguing the game in the country, saying that it's been more of a face-lift rather than a structural change in the run-up to their Test return. Zimbabwe Cricket have said they will look into his grievances, which one hopes translates in to more than plain words.

09.15 am Six years, it's been almost six years since Zimbabwe were last seen in Test whites on the field. Their last Test series against India will be remembered mostly for the off-field drama surrounding the India captain Sourav Ganguly and coach Greg Chappell.

Considering the crushing nature of the defeats they used to suffer in those days, Zimbabwe went into self-imposed exile, which will come to an end today when Brendan Taylor leads them out against Bangladesh in Harare. It will be a huge moment for Zimbabwe, and the club of Test-playing nations will again increase to ten.

0.1

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, length ball around off stump first up, going straight on with the angle, shuffles and plays it out towards midwicket

0.2

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, crisp drive now, off the front foot, but straight to shortish extra cover

0.3

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, drops it back of a length this time, not any movement so far for Shafiul, ends up around leg, and is kept down in front of square

0.4

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, lots of zip and carry on this one as Shafiul puts in more effort on the length ball, but way outside off stump and it is left alone

0.5

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, another leave outside off stump from the debutant as Shafiul keeps it some way outside off, again that carry from a length

0.6

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, a bit of straightening finally off the last ball as Shafiul bowls one close to off, he comes forward, opens the face and runs it towards point

Not much of a crowd early in the morning at the ground where floodlights are being put up

1.1

Robiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, left alone outside off stump, there is carry on this surface if there is some effort from the bowler

1.2

Robiul Islam to Sibanda, 4 leg byes, confusion all around, non-striker wants a run and almost reaches the striker who hasn't budged at all after being struck on the pads around leg stump, fielder runs in from the leg side and he only has to lob the ball back to the non-striker's end, goes for the direct hit, misses and Zimbabwe get away with some nothing running

1.3

Robiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, reverts to the line outside off stump and it is left alone

1.4

Robiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, another one well outside off and he shoulders arms

1.5

Robiul Islam to Sibanda, 3 runs, there is some late movement on this one, it was pitched very full, much fuller than the previous deliveries, he goes for the drive and gets a thickish edge past gully

1.6

Robiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, closer to off stump, Robiul has been getting decent bounce as he runs in, batsman shoulders arms though

End of over 2 (7 runs) Zimbabwe 7/0

2.1

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, angles it in full on the leg stump, he shuffles and goes for the flick, but misses

2.2

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, that is a good line from Shafiul, close to off stump and taking off generously from a length, he walks across, ending up outside off and lets it go

2.3

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, gets well forward to a length ball outside off that does not bounce as much as the previous one and shoulders arms

2.4

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, still closer to off and finally makes him play, he is just a tad late in getting forward but manages to open the face and defend towards point

2.5

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, just a hint of away movement as he angles it in from well wide of the crease, but too far outside off to elicit anything more than inaction from the batsman

2.6

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, fine leave, very fine leave, Shafiul gets the line right around off, but he judges the line perfectly and lets it go past

End of over 3 (maiden) Zimbabwe 7/0

TMK Mawoyo    0* (7b)      Robiul Islam    1-0-3-0

3.1

Robiul Islam to Mawoyo, FOUR, first boundary for Zimbabwe and it comes off a poor delivery, short, wide, dug in way outside off and he gives it everything, thumping the cut over point

3.2

Robiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, ripper, what a comeback from Robiul, pitches on a length around middle and seams away, leaving the batsman groping for the ball as he pushes inside the line

3.3

Robiul Islam to Mawoyo, FOUR, and then he serves up a half-volley which is the perfect length around off to lean in to the drive and put it past extra cover

3.4

Robiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, he is alternating between boundary balls and rippers, here is another example of the latter, leaving him around off from a length, has to play at that, ends up poking in the air

3.5

Robiul Islam to Mawoyo, FOUR, now, now, would you believe it, he delivers another over-pitched delivery, he just has to get front foot out and push it past extra cover, and it races away

3.6

Robiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, no boundary, no unplayable delivery, it is a harmless length ball around off that is defended solidly

End of over 4 (12 runs) Zimbabwe 19/0
TMK Mawoyo    12* (13b 3x4)      Robiul Islam    2-0-15-0

4.1

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, hit on the body from back of a length as he looks to work it in front of square leg

Gareth: "So i don't want to dampen Zimbabwe's return with whinging, but where's Forster Mutizwa? Cracking innings in the tour match and one of the few Zimbabwe players with a First Class average over 40. Even if Taibu kept the gloves, bring in Forster soley as a batsman. That aside, should be a great match! Welcome back boys!" Welcome Gareth

4.2

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, dug in back of a length too far outside off stump to interest the batsman, left alone

4.3

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, 4 byes, yikes, that is a poor delivery, Shafiul has lost his line completely, fires it way down the leg side and it moves further away from Rahim, giving him no chance even as he put in a desperate dive

4.4

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, better line, but again a touch wider outside off, he shoulders arms as it bounces past him

4.5

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, another one dug in short of a length, he keeps it down comfortably, shuffles and plays late to get it towards square leg

4.6

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, lovely line, and an even better leave, Shafiul targets off stump from very wide of the crease, it just misses the off stump, how can you judge that leave so well, but Sibanda has, well done

End of over 5 (4 runs, maiden) Zimbabwe 23/0

Rubel into the attack now

5.1

Rubel Hossain to Mawoyo, no run, slings it in on a length outside off, he watches it go past from the crease

5.2

Rubel Hossain to Mawoyo, no run, generates some pace with that slinging action, but the line is wide outside off and it is left alone again

5.3

Rubel Hossain to Mawoyo, no run, superb delivery, there have been a couple of those today, he fires it in around off on a length, the angle means he has to push at it, the ball leaves him late, but doesn't get the edge

5.4

Rubel Hossain to Mawoyo, 1 run, lunging well forward but has to adjust quickly as he sees this one angled in around middle and leg, manages to stab it away

5.5

Rubel Hossain to Sibanda, no run, off the thick inside edge towards square leg as he defends half-forward to a shortish one

Simon: "Brilliant to see Zimbabwe back in the fold. They could have gone backwards like Kenya, but they seem a decent, competitive side now. Always have a soft spot for the Deshis, but not sure who to back in this one!"

5.6

Rubel Hossain to Sibanda, no run, hmm, that angle is making him push at deliveries he would have normally left, slung in on a length, he goes after it, but it moves away sharply as he tries to belatedly withdraw the bat, lucky not to edge it

End of over 6 (1 run) Zimbabwe 24/0

6.1

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, banged in back of a length, worked away in front of square leg

6.2

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, Bangladesh have not persisted in making the batsmen play this morning, another one way outside off stump

6.3

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, that one came in late from outside off, but he had it covered as he lunged forward and shouldered arms

6.4

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, shifts the line closer to off stump but still not tight enough to make him push at it, another leave

6.5

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, the length is just short of a length, the line is way outside off, any decent opener is not going to go after those on the first morning of a five-day game

6.6

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, much better delivery, much fuller, targetting the stumps, he is a bit late on the drive, and Shafiul saves some runs with a diving stop

7.1

Rubel Hossain to Sibanda, no run, he is really getting it to thud in to the bat from back of a length, batsman opens the face to run it towards gully

7.2

Rubel Hossain to Sibanda, no run, Rubel's extra pace is making him uncertain, late decision to leave outside off and he is hit on the outer half of the bat, ball runs away to gully

7.3

Rubel Hossain to Sibanda, no run, no one at short leg, as Rubel pings the batsman with one angled in, and the ball lobs in to the air, was there a bit of bat involved there?

7.4

Rubel Hossain to Sibanda, no run, pushed in to the off side off the back foot

7.5

Rubel Hossain to Sibanda, no run, just a bit of away movement, but from a very full length and some way outside off, left well alone

Hugh: "There has never been a better time to split the Test nations into two divisions. I say it more in hope than anything, but it will allow Zimbabwe and Bangladesh to build themselves up, and allow Ireland and the Netherlands to start at the bottom of the ladder. If you have one team up/one team down each year it should also force the stronger teams to take all series seriously."

8.1

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, Shafiul continues to largely be wide outside off stump and is left well alone again

8.2

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, another leave outside off stump, the new ball will not have much of an impact even on a cold morning if it is hurled three feet outside off

8.3

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, there again, Shafiul's line is consistently well outside off stump, will he bowl the surprise one that comes back in?

8.4

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, 3 runs, there it is, comes straight in from wide of the crease, he seems to be waiting for it, allows it to come on and works it through midwicket

8.5

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, ho hum, back to normal, miles outside the off stump is Shafiul and there is no need to play at those

8.6

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, that;s the one, making him drive from a much fuller length, he cannot get power on the shot and mid off fields

9.1

Rubel Hossain to Sibanda, no run, thought about going after it, but then saw it moving away outside off and let it go

9.4

Rubel Hossain to Sibanda, no run, just a touch shorter than the previous one, he was already coming well forward, adjusts to defend solidly

10.2

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, Shafiul goes back to his line well outside off and gets it to jag away from a length, he is not going after those, left alone

10.3

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, crack! that was headed for the wide long off boundary, but mid off got to his left in time to stop a smashing drive off the front foot, this has been a fine start from Zimbabwe

10.4

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, no run, left alone as it bounces from a length well outside off stump

10.5

Shafiul Islam to Mawoyo, 3 runs, this is neat batting, if is around back of a length, let it go, it it is overpitched, give it everything, as he gets forward to the pitch and creams it past cover

10.6

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, good delivery, and a better leave, jagging in late from well outside off, not far from the stumps, but Zimbabwe have shown excellent judgment so far in leaving

Sean: "While these two nations slug it out for top honours in div 2 (notwithstanding Ireland's performance), it must be concerning for an established cricketing nation like Kenya who so easily succumbed to newcomers UAE in Nairobi."

11.1

Rubel Hossain to Mawoyo, no run, that is the length, just full enough to make him push at it, but not overpitched, and then moves away slightly to beat him

11.2

Rubel Hossain to Mawoyo, no run, Rubel has cranked it up but Shafiul is not being able to create pressure from the other end, he slings it in on the stumps with the angle, batsman was on his way forward and got a leading edge towards point as he tried to work it on the leg side belatedly

11.3

Rubel Hossain to Mawoyo, FOUR, as someone says, when you slash, slash hard, that is that Mawoyo does as he throws his bat at one climbing outside off, and gets it high over the slip cordon and away to the third man boundary

11.4

Rubel Hossain to Mawoyo, no run, just a bit closer to off stump, Mawoyo;s leaving instincts take over and he shoulders arms

11.5

Rubel Hossain to Mawoyo, no run, another well-judged leave outside off as he sees this one rising from back of a length

Excellent over-rate from Bangladesh, but the first hour has belonged to Zimbabwe, the Bangladesh seamers haven't made their openers play enough, apart from a few play-and-misses, they haven't been tested

Hugh: "I'm sure this will jinx everything, but it's great to see such a strong batting order for Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe's session after they were inserted by Shakib. Just a few close moments against the new ball, apart from a simple run-out chance that Bangladesh messed up. 45.6

Shafiul Islam to Sibanda, no run, lets the attempted bouncer sail harmlessly past him

End of over 46 (2 runs) Zimbabwe 149/1

Rubel Hossain to Masakadza, no run, length ball left alone outside the off stump, just how well have Zimbabwe left today

46.4

Rubel Hossain to Masakadza, no run, loud shout for lbw, was that pad first, was he struck outside the line, he was indeed well outside the line as he lunged forward to defend the length ball, looked to be a bit of bat as well

Iain Lloyd: "It's no wonder there is very little pace around the sub-continent, when the pitches they play on are so flat, who would want to bowl 20 overs a day (in heat) on those?! " I agree, though that does not answer the question of Pakistan;s riches in that area

Tim: "One word, Imran. If Zaheer Khan was as marketable as Imran Khan then maybe India would be about to have thousands of pace bowlers. That said Australia had Shane Warne and now can't find a spinner." You could do with stopping the revolving door on them for a moment
