Bangladesh in Zimbabwe ODI Series - 2nd ODI

Zimbabwe v Bangladesh

Zimbabwe won by 7 wickets (with 35 balls remaining)

It will be Chris Mpofu to run in with the new ball

Marcus: "Normally as a Zimbabwe supporter I would be concerned at this point of an ODI series; a 1-0 lead normally meant a 4-1 or 3-1 loss, as was the case in the West Indies and Bangladesh last year. But in spite of being composed of mostly the same players, this team seems to now have the crucial self belief lacking for most of the last decade."

Rahat: "Well, I'm here again with all the wishes. Bangladesh should get back into their game."

Tim: "Why bother even tossing the coin?"

9.10 am Zimbabwe have won the toss again, and have chosen to field, again

Brendan Taylor: "We will try to exploit the early morning conditions, use the first hour well and put them under pressure so that our spinners can come in then. Around 240 is a good score."

Shakib Al Hasan: "Not a problem batting first, we would have done that anyways. Looks like a good track. Anything above 250 is a good total."

One change to the Bangladesh side, allrounder Nasir Hossain debuts in place of Shuvo. Zimbabwe haven't made any changes

Kepler Wessels says on air that the pitch has lesser grass than before and is pretty solid and firm. He doesn't think the toss will have much of an impact.

9.05 am Welcome to our coverage of the second of the five ODIs between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in Harare. Zimbabwe are flying high, they are even taking those Bangladesh left-arm spinners for runs. Abdur Razzak, Shakib Al Hasan and Suhrawadi Shuvo went for five an over in the first match and managed a solitary wicket. Vusi Sibanda showed the way to tackle the round-arm darters from the spinners, using his feet frequently and disturbing their lengths. This was after Brian Vitori continued to torment them with movement, pace and accuracy, to pick up five on debut.

Firdose Moonda says in her preview that Zimbabwe have lost wickets in clusters, especially in the middle order, and would want to set that right.

0.1

Mpofu to Tamim Iqbal, 1 run, off the mark right away, short of a length coming in on the pads, worked away to short fine leg who tumbles and stops it

0.2

Mpofu to Imrul Kayes, no run, good line pretty soon from Mpofu, fuller and going across close to off stump, he plays it out to covers

0.3

Mpofu to Imrul Kayes, no run, even better now, this one holding its line from a length around off stump, he adjusts as it comes in and pushes back towards the bowler

0.4

Mpofu to Imrul Kayes, FOUR, that will go, Mpofu provides lots of width outside off on a length, sits up, and is spanked through cover

0.5

Mpofu to Imrul Kayes, 2 runs, more width, but a lot fuller, and Kayes goes after it, but the ball goes just over a leaping backward point

0.6

Mpofu to Imrul Kayes, no run, now he provides no width and the batsman is forced into playing in out on the leg side

End of over 1 (7 runs) Bangladesh 7/0 (RR: 7.00)

Positive start from Bangladesh, they were completely bogged down during the early overs in the first ODI. Here is Vitori

sabbiha: "What happened to the sub continent cricket, we need a win."

1.1

Vitori to Tamim Iqbal, no run, and is on target first ball, darting in with the angle from over the wicket on a length, he is struck on the pad as he misses, going down leg that one

1.2

Vitori to Tamim Iqbal, 2 runs, angled further in to the pads and this time he gets bat nicely on to it to pick up a couple in front of square leg

1.3

Vitori to Tamim Iqbal, no run, there is the away swinger, but too much outside off stump to have Tamim interested, lets it go

1.4

Vitori to Tamim Iqbal, no run, much better line, making him play around off stump with one that holds its line from a length, good bounce as Tamim opens the face to counter the movement and pushes to point

1.5

Vitori to Tamim Iqbal, OUT, dear me, this is becoming a bit of a pattern now, Tamim goes after Vitori and falls again, nothing shot, as in the first match, moving away from him on a length, bouncing, biting, just a bit of width and he thinks it needs to be crunched through point, just tried to force it away, went after it without moving the feet, and first slip took it almost as if he was waiting for it

Tamim Iqbal c Price b Vitori 3 (6m 6b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

Rahim in at No 3, much better than the normal position at which he bats

Mpofu to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, good carry for Mpofu, close to off stump on a fuller length, left alone straight away

2.2

Mpofu to Mushfiqur Rahim, FOUR, goes down the pads with the angle and RAhim helps it round the corner, long leg cannot get there in time

2.3

Mpofu to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, good delivery this time, Mpofu finds bounce from back of a length, Rahim goes across, but it climbs too much and he takes it on the body

2.4

Mpofu to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, that is a nice line outside off stump, Mpofu gets it to kick from a length, Rahim is surprised as he pushes forward and is hit high on the bat

2.5

Mpofu to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, moving away a tad now from a length outside off, he stays in the crease and opens the face to run it wide of point, he has a tight technique, Rahim

3.5

Vitori to Imrul Kayes, 1 wide, down the leg side with the angle this time

3.5

Vitori to Imrul Kayes, no run, another beauty, how do you deal with those, short of a length now and holding its line inches from off stump, you just push at those and hope you don't edge them, Kayes gets away again

3.6

Vitori to Imrul Kayes, no run, fuller this time, he pushes it away watchfully with an open face to point

End of over 4 (1 run) Bangladesh 15/1 (RR: 3.75)

4.3

Mpofu to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, pushed away to point from a length

ahmed has what can only be termed as a unique solution for Tamim's travails: "Tamim is having a nightmare from Vitori. Tamim needs a rest of 1 game, send him to a African jungle, let him be in touch with nature, just relax and come back for the 4th ODI."

4.4

Mpofu to Mushfiqur Rahim, FOUR, gets on top of the bouncer, Mpofu bangs it in short, and he rocks back to time the pull through midwicket

5.2

Vitori to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, starts to hold its line but angled a touch wider, he gets well across and blocks

5.3

Vitori to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, beaten this time, this one does not come back in, goes straight on with the angle from a length, Rahim has that late inward movement on his mind as he pushes forward inside the line

6.1

Mpofu to Imrul Kayes, 1 leg bye, Mpofu has struggled to keep up the pressure from the other end, moves in down the pads and rolls away behind square

6.3

Mpofu to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, solid forward defensive push from Rahim, length ball, he plonks front foot out, head on top of ball, crouching low as he smothers it

6.4

Mpofu to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, pushed away off the front foot to cover, decent line from Mpofu

6.5

Mpofu to Mushfiqur Rahim, OUT, oh well, now Rahim has given it away, why, oh why would you do that after looking in serene control, goes the way Ashraful did in the first match, not in control of the pull as Mpofu bangs it in, quickly on to him, he was not in a great position, and square leg will settle under that and take it easily

7.2

Vitori to Imrul Kayes, no run, forced from the crease off a length, but straight to point

7.3

Vitori to Imrul Kayes, OUT, suicidal tendencies spread through the Bangladesh line-up, this time Kayes thinks that a length delivery should be clattered through extra cover, he is nowhere to the pitch of the ball as he gets forward to thump it, and extra cover accepts the gift

Mpofu to Nasir Hossain, 1 run, well forward now to a length ball and takes off for the single even as he pushes towards cover

eden: "this is a perfect example of why zimbabwe havent and probably wont make it far in international cricket. They dont have that killer instinct to finish off a side from the position they had bangladesh - in spite of good individual performances from the likes of vitori, etc."

44.6

Mpofu to Abdur Razzak, 1 run, fired in full near the blockhole, he goes after it with a big heave and gets it down to long on

Nasir Hossain c Masakadza b Vitori 63 (108m 92b 6x4 0x6) SR: 68.47

45.3

Abdur Razzak    32* (29b 1x4 1x6)      CB Mpofu    8-1-37-1

46.1

Mpofu to Shafiul Islam, no run, went for the big drive from outside off, beaten

Hussain: "the problem with zimbabwe is that they don't have any real strike bowler apart from vitori. Jarvis looked quite impressive and it's odd that despite having that kind of bowler in their rank, they've instead decided to pair Vitori with an aging Mpofu, hardly going to trouble any of the top batsmen in the world."

46.2

Mpofu to Shafiul Islam, 1 run, steered to third man as he gets some width outside off

46.3

Mpofu to Abdur Razzak, 1 run, poor throw, it was swung hard, midwicket got to the ball and had the throw been on target at Taibu's end, it could have been more trouble for Bangladesh

46.4

Mpofu to Shafiul Islam, no run, tries to belatedly work a rising delivery, misses it completely as he hops in the air

46.5

Mpofu to Shafiul Islam, 1 run, gets on top of a short and wide one and cuts it to third man

Liam: "An ageing Mpofu?? He's 25!"

46.6

Mpofu to Abdur Razzak, 2 runs, walks outside off stump and lifts a length ball in front of square leg, the man from the deep runs hard and puts in the dive to haul it in, and deep midwicket is around as well to throw it back

End of over 47 (5 runs) Bangladesh 187/8 (RR: 3.97)
Abdur Razzak    35* (31b 1x4 1x6)      CB Mpofu    9-1-42-1
Shafiul Islam    2* (6b)      BV Vitori    9-0-19-4

Ashwin: "@hussain....well i think thats an unfair criticism....most sides today dont have more than one main strike bowler...Vitori completes this team....lets just say nasir fought back...nothin wrong wth the bowling."

Abdur Razzak b Vitori 35 (55m 32b 1x4 1x6) SR: 109.37

round the wicket

47.3

Vitori to Rubel Hossain, OUT, the innings is over with 15 deliveries to go, a mindless run out, pushes a full delivery towards extra cover and just takes off, non-striker takes a couple of steps too but then holds his hands up, but Rubel has too much momentum in to the run, and has no chance of getting back as the throw comes in to Taibu

Rubel Hossain run out 0 (1m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Trust Steven Lynch to come up with this: "No one has ever taken five-fors in their first two ODIs before - Ryan Harris took two in his first three. No one had taken more than eight wickets in their first two ODIs before - six bowlers managed this: Curtly Ambrose, Winston Davis, Allan Donald, Fidel Edwards, Adam Hollioake (!) and Rusty Theron."

Bangladesh top order failing again, almost a repeat of the first game, Shakib involved in both mini-fightbacks but could not carry on today. It was Nasir Hossain who played a remarkably mature innings on debut, to get Bangladesh close to 200, in the company of Razzak. They haven't managed to last 50 overs as well, and Brian Vitori is responsible for that. Early wickets needed, he has delivered, partnership to be broken, he has delivered, innings to be wrapped up, he has delivered. Immense. Join us in 35 minutes for the chase. You can have a look at Firdose Moonda's match report till then.

Shahriar Nafees: "We did not start well, it was a good wicket, but we could not stay there long enough. We have fought back, it is a fighting total. Nasir is a good player, performed well in domestic cricket, he is a brilliant fielder as well. If we can take 2-3 wickets in first ten overs, we have a good chance."

ryan: "I second the motion of giving KJ a game. Utseya hasn't looked his best against this side who play spin better. They will have had a good look at Vitori in these two games, i would give them a new dimension in playing KJ next game and see what happens."
