Pakistan tour of Zimbabwe, 1st T20I: Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Harare, Sep 16, 2011
Pakistan won by 85 runs
Played at Harare Sports Club
16 September 2011 (20-over match)

Hafeez to take strike, he is out there with Shafiq, as Aasim predicted. This should be fun. Boy, I already miss Afridi. Chris Mpofu has the ball. One slip and a short fine leg inside the circle. I am Nitin Sundar, your commentator for today.

"This is the best selection for Pakistan, Shafiq should be sent as opener as he has performed well for Karachi Dolphins while opening," says Aasim. But isn't Rameez also a specialist opener? We'll know who comes out soon. The fielders are already there.

1.40 pm Another lovely day at the Harare Sports Club as we usher in the first of two Twenty20s between Zimbabwe and Pakistan. Zimbabwe have won the toss and chosen to field. Utseya, Waller and Vitori miss out. Chris Mpofu and the bespectacled Charles "194*" Coventry come in, as does Cephas Zhuwao, who has one of the most pleasant-sounding names I have ever come across. Apologies for early reports that suggested that Jarvis wasn't playing. We got that wrong, he is indeed playing.

For Pakistan, Rameez Raja (jnr) will make his debut at the top, and Imran Farhat misses out. Saeed Ajmal comes back into the side, but Junaid Khan sits out once again. Surprising, unless he is injured. More interestingly, one Akmal replaces another - Adnan is out, and Umar will keep wicket.

While we wait for more news, here's what Chris Mpofu had to tell Firdose Moonda when they met earlier this week.

0.1

Mpofu to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, back of a length and angling into Hafeez, who forces it off the hip straight to midwicket.

Brendan Taylor at slip seems to have shaven most of his hair off. A change of luck may be, for the side?

0.2

Mpofu to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, poor ball from Mpofu, bangs is in short and quite wide, Hafeez gets under it and unfurls an impressive upper cut over point.

0.3

Mpofu to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, boink! He is in form, and Mpofu might want to change his lengths soon. Another short ball, Hafeez easily pulls through midwicket, not bothering to keep it down.

0.4

Mpofu to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, better length, and a slight drop in pace. As he'd told Firdose, Mpofu is using slower balls a lot more these days. Hafeez gets forward towards the length and guides it towards mid-off.

0.5

Mpofu to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, perfect yorker. Full and on the off stump, Hafeez digs it out and can't do much more with it.

Zim have three front-line bowlers today. Pak have five.

0.6

Mpofu to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, gets away with a gift-wrapped fulltoss on the pads. Hafeez clips is pleasingly, but finds deep midwicket.

End of over 1 (9 runs) Pakistan 9/0 (RR: 9.00)

    • Mohammad Hafeez 9 (6b 2x4)
    • Asad Shafiq 0 (0b)
    • CB Mpofu 1-0-9-0

Jarvis comes on now.

Touqueer: "I think this team is too much bowler heavy. There is no place for Yasir Shah as already Malik and Hafeez are there with Saeed Ajmal. Pakistan should have played Adnan Akmal as Umar Akmal is very important player in T20 Format for Pakistan and should be in top 4 batting slots."

1.1

Jarvis to Mohammad Hafeez, 3 runs, fullish ball on off stump, Hafeez threads it through the covers for three more.

1.2

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, no run, good ball to Shafiq first up. Jarvis is faster that you'd imagine, and he gets this one to kick up from a length past a rather ambitious attempt to glide through third man.

1.3

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, FOUR, ah, he loses the line this time. Back of a length, but wide enough outside off for Shafiq to lay into. Pleasing stroke that, leans into the square drive and sends it flowing away.

1.4

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, no run, again, Jarvis has Shafiq feeling for an effort ball even as it rises past him outside off.

1.5

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, no run, back of a length again, and a hint of away movement off the seam. This time Shafiq lets it go.

1.6

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, 1 run, offcutter to end the over, Shafiq spots it as he stays back in the crease and drops it to the off side for a single.

"Believe me, Umar is better keeper than remaining Akmal brothers. I can bet on that too," says Ali Abid. Better than Kamran isn't saying much, is it?

End of over 2 (8 runs) Pakistan 17/0 (RR: 8.50)

    • Asad Shafiq 5 (5b 1x4)
    • Mohammad Hafeez 12 (7b 2x4)
    • KM Jarvis 1-0-8-0
    • CB Mpofu 1-0-9-0
2.1

Mpofu to Asad Shafiq, no run, there's a spot of freshness in this pitch at the moment. Mpofu gets one to veer away off the seam now, and Shafiq is squared up as he gropes outside off.

2.2

Mpofu to Asad Shafiq, FOUR, at this pace, Mpofu has no business bowling short in Powerplay overs. Half-tracker angling in, Shafiq could pick his spot as he shaped to pull, and went through midwicket.

2.3

Mpofu to Asad Shafiq, FOUR, slower ball goes awry. Mpofu dangles it onto the pads, and Shafiq glances it daintily down to fine leg. The man inside the circle ambled back to retreieve it.

2.4

Mpofu to Asad Shafiq, FOUR, Pakistan are flying away here. Another short ball from Mpofu, wide eough outside off. Shafiq does his impersonation of Sehwag, clattering the upper cut backward of point.

2.5

Mpofu to Asad Shafiq, FOUR, Four in a row. Mpofu has done everything except over-pitch so far, and now he commits that crime too. Shafiq walks into it with a languid forward press and smokes it through the covers.

2.6

Mpofu to Asad Shafiq, 1 run, a side-arm slower ball on the pads, too full, but Shafiq thankfully flicks straight to the man in the deep.

End of over 3 (17 runs) Pakistan 34/0 (RR: 11.33)

    • Asad Shafiq 22 (11b 5x4)
    • Mohammad Hafeez 12 (7b 2x4)
    • CB Mpofu 2-0-26-0
    • KM Jarvis 1-0-8-0
3.1

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, no run, back of a length outside off from Jarvis, definitely pacier than Mpofu, and Shafiq again searches outside off.

3.2

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, no run, much better lengths from this end. Short of driving length, not short enough for the pull and angling in to cramp Shafiq for room. He can't do more than defend.

3.3

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, no run, and again, a touch fuller this time, but still not enough for Shafiq to get forward. Defended from the crease.

Vitori is out with injury, we just found out.

3.4

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, 1 wide, sprays it down the leg side now, and it is a wide.

3.4

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, FOUR, poor lines from Mpofu, poor lengths from Jarvis. And these are 2 of the 3 full-time bowlers Zim are playing today. Alarm bells! Too full and too wide this one, Shafiq launches it on the rise through cover.

3.5

Jarvis to Asad Shafiq, 1 run, he's back to his stock length here, and gets it to angle in as well. Shafiq pushes it to mid-on.

3.6

Jarvis to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, good ball to end the over, restricts Hafeez to an open-faced dab backward of point for one.

Saad Saqib: "Did someone say Asad Shafiq wasn't fast enough,... yeah bet your shaking your head now!"

End of over 4 (7 runs) Pakistan 41/0 (RR: 10.25)

    • Mohammad Hafeez 13 (8b 2x4)
    • Asad Shafiq 27 (16b 6x4)
    • KM Jarvis 2-0-15-0
    • CB Mpofu 2-0-26-0

Zim are showing their hand rather early here. Price into the attack.

4.1

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, 5 wides, and a poor start. He spars the first ball down the leg side, Hafeez tries to sweep and it just runs along with the angle for five wides.

4.1

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, gets the reverse sweep out now, and laps Price with the turn towards point.

4.2

Price to Asad Shafiq, 1 wide, another wide down the leg as Price looks to cut off room. This time Taibu gets there.

4.2

Price to Asad Shafiq, 1 wide, and another. This is disaster for Zimbabwe.

4.2

Price to Asad Shafiq, 1 run, shoves this in full on the blockhole, and Shafiq plays it onto the boot and into the off side. Pakistan have 50 before you could have said Ramees Raja Junior.

4.3

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, tossed up on the off stump, Hafeez pushes it softly into the covers for one.

4.4

Price to Asad Shafiq, 2 runs, this is not the usual parsimonious Price. Short ball on leg stump, and Shafiq lap-sweeps it into vacant real estate behind square.

4.5

Price to Asad Shafiq, 2 wides, another wide down the leg side. Takes the over's count to nine wide runs for the over, as Taibu misses and they pinch a single too.

4.5

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, Hafeez backs away a touch and guides a tight ball on the stumps into the off side for a single.

4.6

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, Price's over has finally ended. He lands another one full on middle stump, and it is tapped into the off side for a single.

"Really wonder whether this is what Heath Streak is teaching these Zim bowlers. Just like England on Morgan we need to snatch a fast bowler from our South African neighbours," says Cmba. England aren't leaving much South African talent for South Africa, leave alone Zimbabwe.

End of over 5 (15 runs) Pakistan 56/0 (RR: 11.20)

    • Mohammad Hafeez 16 (12b 2x4)
    • Asad Shafiq 30 (18b 6x4)
    • RW Price 1-0-15-0
    • KM Jarvis 2-0-15-0

Elton into the attack.

5.1

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, and he starts in earnest, gentle away seamer back of a length outside off, and Hafeez feels for it without conviction.

5.2

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, Hafeez tries to do a Dilshan, but doesn't quite pull it off. He gets the front foot forward and looks to scoop a length ball over the keeper's head. It takes the outside edge and balloons over where the slips would have been.

5.3

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, hammered. Elton drops short now, he's even slower than Mpofu, so that's an even worse idea. Hafeez summons his inner Djokovic and thumps it cross-batted over mid-on. Go fetch.

5.4

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 leg bye, fuller length aimed at the pads, it runs off Hafeez's legs to the leg side for a single.

5.5

Chigumbura to Asad Shafiq, SIX, majestic from Shafiq. Another dolly from Elton, listless, neutered short ball that comes along in slow motion. Shafiq is inside the line and climbs onto it with a violent lofted pull. It lands behind the ropes at backward square leg.

BJ: "I thought Hafeez would've stopped playing the paddle sweep shot after the Mohali semi-final." Ah, it was off Munaf Patel wasn't it? Too many Pakistan batsmen have fell trying the paddle shot too often in crunch games. I am reminded of Misbah in Jo'burg ...

5.6

Chigumbura to Asad Shafiq, 1 run, fullish ball on Shafiq's pads to end the over, he whips to deep midwicket for a single. Pakistan will be looking at 200 from here as the Powerplay draws to a close.

End of over 6 (16 runs) Pakistan 72/0 (RR: 12.00)

    • Asad Shafiq 37 (20b 6x4 1x6)
    • Mohammad Hafeez 24 (16b 4x4)
    • E Chigumbura 1-0-15-0
    • RW Price 1-0-15-0
6.1

Price to Asad Shafiq, no run, back of a length from Price on middle and leg, Shafiq tries to slap it away but can't connect well.

6.2

Price to Asad Shafiq, 1 run, fuller ball outside off, he gets forward to guide it to cover point for one.

6.3

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, well bowled, follows him as Hafeez looks to back away and delivers it full on the toes, and he inner-edges the heave to the leg side for no runs.

6.4

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, Price is working to a plan - full on leg stump with short fine leg and deep square leg in place. The sweep fetches a single.

6.5

Price to Asad Shafiq, OUT, many a slip between cup and lip for Shafiq. He works a full ball to short fine-leg and sets off for a hesitant single. Hafeez wasn't too sure, and Shafiq decided to turn back. He would have been fine, if not for the fact that he slipped and fell as he tried to turn. Coventry throws down the stumps.

Asad Shafiq run out 38 (32m 23b 6x4 1x6) SR: 165.21

Rameez on air. Rameez on strike. For the first time in our lovely game.

6.6

Price to Rameez Raja, no run, and Price welcomes him with a spitting ripper, the sort that made Price famous. Speared in on middle and leg and then devilish straightening, leaves Rameez groping for it.

End of over 7 (2 runs) Pakistan 74/1 (RR: 10.57)

    • Rameez Raja (2) 0 (1b)
    • Mohammad Hafeez 25 (18b 4x4)
    • RW Price 2-0-17-0
    • E Chigumbura 1-0-15-0

Masakadza comes on to bowl now.

7.1

Masakadza to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, short of a length outside off, Hafeez just looked lazy as he tried to steer it and was beaten by the bounce.

7.2

Masakadza to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, fuller on off stump, Hafeez leans out to push it into the covers. No single to be taken.

7.3

Masakadza to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, he perfects the lap shot this time. Hamilton landed this well outside off, and Hafeez reaches across to redirect it over, and to the left of short fine leg for four.

7.4

Masakadza to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, fuller length again, Hafeez leans out to drive to cover.

7.5

Masakadza to Mohammad Hafeez, SIX, this is like digging your own grave and going and lying in it. Hamilton waddles in and wafts a length ball on the pads at an amiable pace. Hafeez sends it into outer pace, almost.

7.6

Masakadza to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, over-pitched outside off to end the over, Hafeez clunks it to deep cover for one more.

End of over 8 (11 runs) Pakistan 85/1 (RR: 10.62)

    • Mohammad Hafeez 36 (24b 5x4 1x6)
    • Rameez Raja (2) 0 (1b)
    • H Masakadza 1-0-11-0
    • RW Price 2-0-17-0

Chamu Chibhabha into the attack now.

8.1

Chibhabha to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, starts with another paceless length ball outside off. Hafeez picks up another single into the covers.

8.2

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, 1 run, Rameez is away, dabbing a short ball outside off to third man.

8.3

Chibhabha to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, half-volley outside off to Hafeez, guided into the covers again

8.4

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, no run, shortens the length to Rameez who meets it as he pushes forward and defends to the off side.

8.5

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, 1 leg bye, back of a length and angling in, Rameez turns the face too early and it pops off off the pad to the off side.

8.6

Chibhabha to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, another short ball, Hafeez doesn't manage to quite savage it this time, and gets only a single.

End of over 9 (5 runs) Pakistan 90/1 (RR: 10.00)

    • Mohammad Hafeez 39 (27b 5x4 1x6)
    • Rameez Raja (2) 1 (4b)
    • CJ Chibhabha 1-0-4-0
    • H Masakadza 1-0-11-0
9.1

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 wide, Elton gets the wide bug now and slants one miles down the leg side.

9.1

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, 2 runs, over-pitched now, and sprayed wide on the other side. Hafeez square-drives for two more.

9.2

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, gets the line right this time, that is a start. Angling in from outside off, keeps Hafeez down to a check-drive to mid-on for one.

9.3

Chigumbura to Rameez Raja, 1 run, short of a length outside Rameez's off stump, and he guides it towards third man for a single.

9.4

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, attempts the yorker, angled in sharply at the toes, and Hafeez squeezes it out to the leg side for a single.

9.5

Chigumbura to Rameez Raja, no run, Rameez has had enough of the dabbed singles, he walks across the stumps and looks to punch a short ball into orbit, but he misses the short ball.

9.6

Chigumbura to Rameez Raja, 1 run, back of the hand slower ball that angles in towards the toes. Rameez takes it on the full and whips to deep midwicket for a single.

End of over 10 (7 runs) Pakistan 97/1 (RR: 9.70)

    • Rameez Raja (2) 3 (7b)
    • Mohammad Hafeez 43 (30b 5x4 1x6)
    • E Chigumbura 2-0-22-0
    • CJ Chibhabha 1-0-4-0
10.1

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, FOUR, things not going Zim's way here, but they aren't helping their cause really. Half-volley on the pads at pop-gun pace, Rameez walks inside the line and hoicks it just wide of the man at deep square leg.

10.2

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, no run, slower ball from Chamu, stops on Rameez and goes away, he carefully defends after thinking of something cheekier.

Taibu stands up to the stumps.

10.3

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, 1 run, back of the hand again, very full on the toes, and Rameez flicks for a single,

10.4

Chibhabha to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, slower ball again, dropped short but outside off, and Hafeez drags the pull all the way across to the man at deep midwicket.

10.5

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, (no ball) 1 run, ah. You thought Zim couldn't commit any more mistakes today. Think again. Chamu over-steps. Full ball outside off, driven to long-off for one.

Free-hit time.

10.5

Chibhabha to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, caught in the deep by Cephas, who is denied a debut catch since it is a free-hit. Another smart slower ball, Hafeez couldn't time the lofted on-drive and picked out long-on.

10.6

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, no run, finishes with a length ball on off stump which Rameez takes for a single into the covers.

End of over 11 (9 runs) Pakistan 106/1 (RR: 9.63)

    • Rameez Raja (2) 9 (12b 1x4)
    • Mohammad Hafeez 45 (32b 5x4 1x6)
    • CJ Chibhabha 2-0-13-0
    • E Chigumbura 2-0-22-0
11.1

Masakadza to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, back of a length outside off, Rameez angles it to the man at short third man.

11.2

Masakadza to Mohammad Hafeez, SIX, Zimbabwe's nightmare is getting worse. Their fielding has been deplorable all series, and it is getting worse. Short ball from Hamilton, but not nearly short enough for the lofted pull. Hafeez did his best to scoop it up, but it was going straight down Mpofu's throat at deep midwicket. He seemed to come in too far and then tried to pouch it Aussie style over his head. No luck, he ends up parrying it over the ropes. Would not have been a 6 if he wasn't there.

11.3

Masakadza to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, inch-perfect yorker from Hamilton, and Hafeez in the form of his life can't get it away.

11.4

Masakadza to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, slow legcutter, Hafeez spots it late and taps into the off side for a single.

11.5

Masakadza to Rameez Raja, FOUR, can someone teach these Zimbabweans out-fielding please! Jarvis does a Mpofu now, he charges in needless, gets too far in to take the catch and then dives ungainly to his right in a last-ditch effort to take it one-handed. The ball eludes him and rolls away for four.

11.6

Masakadza to Rameez Raja, no run, if Hamilton is flustered by the drops he isn't showing it. Another decent length ball outside off, Rameez can't get it away.

Zain Adeeb: "How good a player for Pakistan has Hafeez become!! Wild swing by Rameez, he calmly walks down, says a few words to him, next ball, Rameez takes a single! Just what Pakistan needed, let Hafeez hit, Rameez take the singles."

End of over 12 (11 runs) Pakistan 117/1 (RR: 9.75)

    • Rameez Raja (2) 13 (14b 2x4)
    • Mohammad Hafeez 52 (36b 5x4 2x6)
    • H Masakadza 2-0-22-0
    • CJ Chibhabha 2-0-13-0

Price is back on.

12.1

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, and starts with a short ball on leg stump that Hafeez flaps over square leg with the freedom of a man who almost knows he can't be caught. And he's right. It doesn't carry to the man prowling in the deep.

12.2

Price to Rameez Raja, 1 run

12.3

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, 3 wides, Price is a generous, broad-minded man today. Or rather, a wide-minded man. Lands this at least two feet outside leg, and Taibu can't stop it.

12.3

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, he's trying to cut out all room by landing it on leg stump, when he gets it right there's little they can do. Like this ball.

12.4

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 wide, another wide down the leg side. Rinse, repeat.

12.4

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, SIX, Sibanda at long-on does his best to leap up and haul it in, but this is not a day for Zimbabweans holding catches. Hafeez dances out to the length and mauls Price over long-on. Just enough to elude the fielder.

12.5

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, 2 runs, too short, Hafeez pulls to deep midwicket for two more. Pakistan are motoring along.

12.6

Price to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, full ball on off stump, turned away to the leg side for a single.

End of over 13 (15 runs) Pakistan 132/1 (RR: 10.15)

    • Mohammad Hafeez 62 (41b 5x4 3x6)
    • Rameez Raja (2) 14 (15b 2x4)
    • RW Price 3-0-32-0
    • H Masakadza 2-0-22-0
13.1

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, 2 runs, over-pitched outside off, this is becoming easier than a net for Hafeez, who drives through extra-cover for two more. Chamu's misfield at deep extra cover didn't help matters.

13.2

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, over-pitched again, Hafeez eases into a square drive and gets one more.

13.3

Chigumbura to Rameez Raja, 1 run, full-length ball on middle and leg, Rameez mistimes a bottom-handed loft over the bowler's head.

13.4

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 leg bye, good delivery, yorker on leg stump, Hafeez tries to jam down on it, and it goes off the pad to the leg side.

13.5

Chigumbura to Rameez Raja, 1 run, full toss on off stump for Rameez to guide into the covers for one more.

13.6

Chigumbura to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, Zimbabwe's attack today is an embarrassment to the word attack. Full toss on the pads, Hafeez could have played that anywhere through the leg side, and he chose square leg.

Double Shot sent this in some time back: "Any chance of a Hafeez century?

Or even double century?

Assuming he faced half the balls...

He needs 48 runs from 24 balls for a century 148 runs from 24 balls for a double century.

Triple century is probably pushing it....doubt he can get 248 runs from 24 balls."

End of over 14 (10 runs) Pakistan 142/1 (RR: 10.14)

    • Mohammad Hafeez 69 (45b 6x4 3x6)
    • Rameez Raja (2) 16 (17b 2x4)
    • E Chigumbura 3-0-31-0
    • RW Price 3-0-32-0
14.1

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, 1 run, full ball from Chamu on the stumps, Rameez mows it through mid-on for a single. Not too well timed.

14.2

Chibhabha to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, legcutter on off stump now, Hafeez drops it towards point for a single.

14.3

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, 1 leg bye, ha! The bowling is so slow that Rameez walked across to off stump, set himself up for the paddle, and then realised he had time to kill. He ends up missing the lap and it runs off the pad to the off side for a single.

14.4

Chibhabha to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, full toss on off stump, Hafeez drills it back past the bowler and Chigumbura at long-off does well to save a few.

14.5

Chibhabha to Rameez Raja, 1 run, full and straight at the stumps, Rameez drags it to the leg side for a single.

14.6

Chibhabha to Mohammad Hafeez, OUT, I am going to shock you all with news that Zimbabwe have held a catch in the deep. No kidding. Hafeez gets a low full toss on the pads and tries to cross-bat it over midwicket, but he picked out Charles Coventry in the deep. He looked pleasantly surprised after catching it.

Mohammad Hafeez c Coventry b Chibhabha 71 (68m 48b 6x4 3x6) SR: 147.91

End of over 15 (5 runs) Pakistan 147/2 (RR: 9.80)

Umar is the new man in. Jarvis has the ball.

15.1

Jarvis to Rameez Raja, 1 run, pacier than any of his colleagues, full on the pads ans worked through square leg.

15.2

Jarvis to Umar Akmal, no run, shortens the length this time, cramps the batsman for room as he looks to back away. Defended down the track in the end.

15.3

Jarvis to Umar Akmal, 1 run, dropped again. Taibu leaps away to his right like a rampant salmon and tries to haul the fine edge from Umar, but he can't hold on. Really tough take, the shot was played late too, giving him very little time.

15.4

Jarvis to Rameez Raja, 2 runs, over-pitched on the pads, Rameez clips it comprehensively for a couple.

15.5

Jarvis to Rameez Raja, no run, good yorker, and Rameez does well to crouch and deflect it, but he picks out short third man.

15.6

Jarvis to Rameez Raja, 1 run, one of the better overs we have seen today. Jarvis keeps it full and straight, Rameez does his best to get muscle behind it, but times it weakly towards square leg for one.

End of over 16 (5 runs) Pakistan 152/2 (RR: 9.50)

Price to Rameez Raja, 1 run, Price fires it in short and straight, Rameez is late on the pull and drags it away towards long-on for one.

16.2

Price to Umar Akmal, 1 run, short of a length again, Umar can't launch it and ends up forcing a single into the covers.

16.3

Price to Rameez Raja, no run, Rameez is struggling. Another short and pacy ball, he is late on the pull and the ball dribbles back to the bowler.

16.4

Price to Rameez Raja, OUT, probably unfair to the youngster, but I reckon Pakistan won't mind his wicket. Full, flat and straight from Price, it was a dart aimed at middle and leg. Rameez put down the right knee and tried to pull it, but missed.

Shoaib Malik walks out for a slog.

"Remove that dire first over from Price and he's got some typically good figures," says Simon. But what a bad over that was.

16.5

Price to Shoaib Malik, no run, back of a length and stifling line around middle, Malik plays it back down the track.

16.6

Price to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, he gets away now, single bunted to long-on. Price ends his spell.

Mpofu comes back on. If his second spell is as bad as his first, Pakistan will coast past 200.

17.1

Mpofu to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, drops a return catch. Fulltoss on off stump to start the spell, caught Malik by surprise. It was such a harmless ball. He just popped it back to Mpofu's left as he went down on his follow through, but couldn't pouch it.

17.2

Mpofu to Umar Akmal, FOUR, Umar walks across the stumps and laps Mpofu's listless full toss past short fine leg. Hideous bowling.

17.3

Mpofu to Umar Akmal, FOUR, and now hideous fielding. Coventry at point doesn't account for the spin on the cut shot and misses a regulation save. Four more.

17.4

Mpofu to Umar Akmal, 2 runs, another length ball. Umar gets under it and hoicks it over midwicket. Not timed as well as he would have wanted, but gets two more.

17.5

Mpofu to Umar Akmal, FOUR, length, length, length. Umar saunters out of the crease, gets under it and scoops it back down the ground over Mpofu's head for four more.

17.6

Mpofu to Umar Akmal, no run, short ball to end the over, Umar moved too far across to make contact with it.

End of over 18 (15 runs) Pakistan 170/3 (RR: 9.44)

    • Umar Akmal 16 (8b 3x4)

Jarvis to Malik.

18.1

Jarvis to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, keeps it outside off on a length, Malik goes down kn a knee and plays the steer, but finds short third man.

18.2

Jarvis to Umar Akmal, FOUR, too wide outside off, a befuddling line given that the cordon on the off side is inside the circle. Umar meanders across and scythes it up and over point's head.

18.3

Jarvis to Umar Akmal, 1 run, low full toss, not a bad option in the circumstances. Umar tries to open up his stance and flay it, but ends up toe-ending to long on.

18.4

Jarvis to Shoaib Malik, 2 runs, this is a Zimbabwean horror show on the field. Yorker outside off, Malik forces it straight to Hamilton at deep cover who does some sort of a juggling dance around the ball, allowing a second. And nearly a third too. He doesn't have the conviction to throw it in.

18.5

Jarvis to Shoaib Malik, 2 runs, angles in on a length, Malik drags it away to wide long-on for two.

18.6

Jarvis to Shoaib Malik, OUT, Zimbabwe hold another outfield catch. Length ball outside off, Malik tries to carve it inside out, but picks out Hamilton at deep cover.

Kamran: "This is being cruel to Zim, how can you mock every delivery, please don't, yeh fielding is appalling I agree!" Make up your mind, Kamran.

End of over 19 (10 runs) Pakistan 180/4 (RR: 9.47)

19.1

Mpofu to Sohail Tanvir, 2 runs, this is more tragedy than comedy now. Tanvir gets under a length ball and launches it high towards long on. Vusi Sibanda was around three yards in when he caught it, but kept back-pedalling like a zombie. He inevitably reached the rope, noticed he was teetering over, and dropped the ball into play as he fell over.

19.2

Mpofu to Sohail Tanvir, SIX, wallop. Short of a length dolly from Mpofu whose biggest weapon as a bowler today has been hope. Tanvir clatters it over midwicket.

19.3

Mpofu to Sohail Tanvir, 2 runs, goes wide of off stump this time, Tanvir squeezes it away through third man for a couple. A fine fifty from Mpofu.

19.4

Mpofu to Sohail Tanvir, SIX, take that. And that. And now this. Length ball. Big bat swing. Cross-batted clatter. Bye bye, cricket ball. Get ready for landing.

19.5

Mpofu to Sohail Tanvir, 1 run, finally gets a semblance of a yorker in, Tanvir shuffles away and forces it into the covers for one.

19.6

Mpofu to Umar Akmal, 1 run, finishes with two good balls does Mpofu, but he bowled 22 forgettable ones before that. Full ball on the stumps, Umar gets it away into the covers for one, and Pak finish 2 short of 200. Mpofu has matched his worst T20 figures - 1-59 in Kimberley v SA.

It's been a disappointing series for Zim, and it has unravelled steadily from the time Mawoyo batted so well in the Test match. Today has definitely been their worst day in the series. They have the talent to bat out of their skins here, but after this show, do they have the spirit?

Taylor opting for Mpofu to bowl the 20th over reminded me of Alastair Cambell bowling the 50th in a 2000 ODI against India. The result - Ajit Agarkar of all people smashed the fasted 50 in Indian ODI history.

"The other two international matches played between Australia-Srilanka & India-England are delayed by rain of rains, whereas this match between Zimbawe & pakistan is warmed by rain of runs," says Ashok. Wonder if the runs will continue to rain after the break.

    • Sohail Tanvir 17 (5b 2x6)
