In the penultimate round of matches in the Faithwear provincial one-day tournament Msvingo romped to a crushing 147-run win over Mashonaland. Msvingo batted first and scored 223 with Alester Maregwede (61) and Robertson Chinyengetere (54 not out) becoming the first batsmen in the competition this season to reach fifty. Mashonaland's makeshift side was never likely to get near to that, and although Mashonganyika (27) gave them a solid start, his dismissal started a collapse as they slid from 42 for 1 to 44 for 5. A minor recovery was nipped in the bud by Kamungozi, who took 4 for 8 in seven overs.
In the other match, by far the highest scoring so far, an unbeaten 71 from Charles Coventry guided Matabeleland to a four-wicket win over Manicaland after being set a target of 248. Bornaparte Mujuru made 53 in a second-wicket stand of 83 with Tinashe Hove (37), before Coventry and the middle order secured victory with 11 balls to spare. Manicaland's innings of 247 for 6 had been built on Elton Chigumbura's unbeaten 97.
Matabeleland now meet Msvingo on Sunday, with the winner assured of the Faithwear title.
