Westerns bounced back from defeat on Saturday with a six-wicket D/L win against Centrals at the Harare Sports Club. Captain Chamu Chibhabha, who chose to bat, and Bothwell Chapungu got Centrals off to a solid start, putting on 55 by the 13th over. Chibhabha went on to score an unbeaten century - 121 off 146 balls, with eight boundaries and three sixes - as Centrals finished on 227 for 4 in 48 overs. Freedom Takarusenga was the outstanding bowler for Westerns with 3 for 39 from his 10 overs. He then put on a 50-run opening stand with Mark Vermeulen, setting the tone for the chase. Tafadzwa Kamungozi though, swung the momentum towards Centrals, accounting for the top three batsmen as Westerns slipped to 90 for 3. After rain delays reduced the innings to 31 overs, it was eventually left to Thabo Mboyi and Njabulo Ncube to take Westerns to victory, finishing on 162 for 6 under the revised target.
The was confusion and controversy at the Country Club where the match between Northerns and Easterns was abandoned after both teams agreed the pitch was unplayable. A decision over the next step now lies with the disciplinary committee.
