Mid West Rhinos 330 for 7 (Sibanda 190) beat Southern Rocks 230 (Waller 4-29) by 100 runs
Vusi Sibanda struck his highest List A score as Mid West Rhinos opened their one-day season with a thumping 100-run win over Southern Rocks at Masvingo. Sibanda blazed his second List A hundred from just 157-balls and set up a large total that produced a comfortable victory.
Opening the batting after losing the toss, Sibanda could only watch as wickets tumbled at the other end. Brian Vitori dismissed Mark Vermeulen, Brendan Taylor and Malcolm Waller for ducks as Mid West slumped to 3 for 2. Sibanda struck six fours before Steven Trenchard fell for 5 and the score read 43 for 4.
Sibanda finally found a partner in Graeme Cremer, who faced 70 balls for his 63. The partnership added 187 at more than seven-an-over as Sibanda brought up his century from 93 balls and went on to take 21 from the 37th over on his way to 190, which included 24 fours and seven sixes.
Southern Rocks set off gamely in their chase of 331 with a 66-run opening stand in 10 overs, but openers Roy Kaia and Alester Maregwede fell in consecutive overs. Ben Slater took up the task with 46 in 63 balls but he became Waller's second wicket, after which the innings petered out to Waller's offspin.
Mountaineers were scheduled to play Mashonaland at Mutare but, following the death of Mashonaland coach Kevin Curran, the match was postponed.
