Bangladesh in Zimbabwe ODI Series - 3rd ODI

Zimbabwe v Bangladesh

Zimbabwe won by 69 runs

Hello and a warm welcome to the third ODI between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. The news just in: Bangladesh have won the toss and chosen to field.

They won the first match rather comfortably while fielding first. Not that they struggled in the second win, when they batted first, but the first win was more easily achieved than the second.

Pitch: Akthar Ali Khan says there are a few cracks on the length before adding, "Perhaps, there might be some assistance". He feels that the pitch would later turn out to be a good batting track.

Alistair Campbell, the chairman of selectors for Zimbabwe, believes 280-320 is a good score on this track.

Shakib Al Hasan: "We would field first. It looks a very good wicket but if we have included one more bowler, so if we can restrict them to a low, it would be nice."

Prosper Utseya: "We got to bring our A game today else we would be out of the series."

Arun Lobo from India sends us our first mail for the day: "Without a doubt this is the best Bangla side one has seen and Bangladesh must focus on playing stronger sides from here. Zimbabwe are fielding their most promising side in many years now and its time for them to put up a fight."

Any Zimbabweans watching this? Let us know what you think of the cricket in your country? Is it improving? Or the other problems that exist in the country is damaging the game?

Mainul alerts to me a typo: "I think it will be Atahar Ali Khan, not Akhtar Ali khan". Just checked the database again. Cricinfo has him as "Athar Ali Khan" ..

1.1

Mahbubul Alam to Vermeulen, no run, in the zone outside off stump, moving away gently, left alone

1.2

Mahbubul Alam to Vermeulen, FOUR, lovely looking punchy drive through cover point. He stood tall and drove on the up. Very neatly done.

1.3

Mahbubul Alam to Vermeulen, 1 leg bye, tries to work across the line, misses and gets a leg bye

1.4

Mahbubul Alam to Sibanda, OUT, Wow! what a delivery. Don't blame Sibanda for edging it. It curved away late from a good length and clipped the outer edge as Sibanda pushed at it; he had to play at it. It did just enough to get the edge. There is no use getting dramatic big movement and missing the bat. Perfect delivery.

V Sibanda c †Mushfiqur Rahim b Mahbubul Alam 0 (4m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

1.5

Mahbubul Alam to Masakadza, 1 leg bye, this one holds its line, bounces in towards middle stump, evades the bat and hits the pad. The ball rolls behind and they steal a single. Rahim, the hyper-active keeper, pounces on the ball and fires in a direct at the non-striker's end but he is just home.

1.6

Mahbubul Alam to Vermeulen, FOUR, Meanwhile, Vermeulen continues to look good. Another flashy on-the-up drive. Again, he stood up tall, got on top of the bounce of the short-of-length delivery before punching it neatly through cover point

I am Sriram Veera and thanks for logging on. Srinivas Raju and Binoy George are on the scoring duty today.

End of over 2 (10 runs) Zimbabwe 11/1 (RR: 5.50)
MA Vermeulen    9* (9b 2x4)      Mahbubul Alam    1-0-8-1

2.1

Syed Rasel to Masakadza, 1 run, allows the ball to come to him before guiding it to third man for a single

Chip Chirara: "Zimbabwe lacks quality match practice. The current squad has been playing together for a long time and the excuse about them being youngsters lacking experience does not hold water anymore! It's time the Zim Cricket adminstration is run-out!"

2.2

Syed Rasel to Vermeulen, no run, straightening on the middle, punched to mid-on

2.3

Syed Rasel to Vermeulen, no run, turns this length delivery to backward point

Andrew: "Forget 'damaging' our game. The problems in the country have all but destroyed our game (we used to beat Bangladesh with ease every time). Until we get a proper coach who has played at the highest level, and the politics leaves the game, we will continue to be sub-standard."

2.4

3.4

Mahbubul Alam to Masakadza, 3 runs, slightly short in length and outside off stump, Masakadza cuts it through backward point region. He was on the front foot, opened the bat-face and punched it away

Masud: "Not sure about Cricket in Zimbabwe, but this is probably the best Bangladeshi side you will probably see in a long time. If they don't get ahead of themselves and stick to the game plan and execute it accordingly, I can tell you today, you will see them going to the distance.......Go Bangladesh!" Ah nice sentiment there Masud. It would be great for cricket in general if Bangladesh can continue to go from strength to strength. some wonderful performers like Shakib Al Hasan in there.

3.5

Mahbubul Alam to Vermeulen, no run, down the leg side, looks to flick but can't connect

3.6

Mahbubul Alam to Vermeulen, OUT, What a soft dismissal. Vermeulen, who was looking so good, is gone. It was full and slipping to the legs, it could have been on driven anywhere but Vermeulen flicked it straight to short midwicket.

MA Vermeulen c Mahmudullah b Mahbubul Alam 11 (16m 18b 2x4 0x6) SR: 61.11

Bob: "I'm a Zimbabwean living in South Africa, i think great strides are being made to improve the standard of cricket at present. However in this series, the teams we've fielded have been lacking balance! If we do not have a balanced side we will never beat any decent side."

4.1

Syed Rasel to Masakadza, no run, length delivery on the off stump line, punched to short cover. The keeper is standing up to the stumps

4.2

Syed Rasel to Masakadza, FOUR, short in length, on the leg and middle stump line, very well played actually. He used the bottom-hand well as he let the top hand go limp and wristed the ball superbly past square leg

Tapiwa Seremani : "The truth of the matter is that the performance of the Zimbabwean cricketers has little to do with the general political problems in the country as a whole but rather to do with politics within the Zimbabwe Cricket Board and the attitude of some of our players, some of whom I know on a personal level."

4.3

Syed Rasel to Masakadza, no run, moving in to the right-hand batsmen, nudged away to the on side

4.4

Syed Rasel to Masakadza, 1 run, slightly slower, floated across full around off stump, guided to backward point region for a single

4.5

Syed Rasel to Coventry, FOUR, drifts to the pads, short in length, Coventry shuffles across to clip it to fine-leg boundary. Easily done.

Shibly: "I don't agree that this is the best Bangladesh side ever-it just over enthusiastic comment. Among the 14 players taken by ICL- 6 were in national squad and some of them are still in good form and counting their days to join the national team. "

4.6

Syed Rasel to Coventry, no run, corrects his line - on the off stump line, defended to the off side

5.2

Mahbubul Alam to Masakadza, 1 run, short in length and moving towards leg and middle, clipped past square leg for a single

Liberty Mubhau: "i think Prosper Utseya is just not good enough as a captain (88 games 650 runs), ,we need a leader, someone who can take wickets at crucial times and can bat at crucial times."

5.3

Mahbubul Alam to Coventry, FOUR, No violence. Pure timing. It was full pitched on the middle and leg line, Coventry allowed it to come to him before on driving it through wide mid-on region.

5.4

Mahbubul Alam to Coventry, 1 wide, moving down the leg side and yes, it would be a wide

5.4

Hati Mutambirwa: "its clear Zim are fielding their best squad in years besides Tatenda Taibu out on suspension. However its abundantly clear that this group is lacking match practice and it remains a mystery why ZC did not organise at least a match or two for the boys. Otherwise its promising."

Gareth: "I believe they should be grooming Chigumbura for the captaincy. He is a young who has shown great promise, and often their only performer in mediocre team displays. Taibu is a great player, but he was crushed with preasure at such a young age. Zimbabwe need to look long term."

Michael Reekie: "Zimbabwean cricket compared to the last few years is in a fairly healthy state particularly inside schools, the problem is keeping hold of the young promising players after they finish school as many go off to university in Australia and the UK and never return. It is essential we stop this exodus so that progress can be made in the future."
