Michael Bevan guided Tasmania to a narrow two-wicket win over Western Australia at the Devonport Oval after Kade Harvey's hat-trick had seemed enough to secure WA victory.
Harvey removed Dan Marsh, George Bailey and Damien Wright to leave Tasmania struggling on 6 for 111 chasing 183. But Bevan (48*) and Xavier Doherty (28) added 50 for the eighth wicket, and although Harvey removed Doherty with six runs still needed, Bevan's experience was enough to see Tasmania home.
Marsh, Tasmania's captain, admitted that at 7 for 127, Tasmania were struggling. "We were a long way off (winning) at that stage," he said. "We had Bevan in there, we just needed someone to stick with him. When you've got one of the world's best one-day players batting you've still got to show some faith. We've seen it so many times before from 'Bevo' playing for Australia, it's just great to see him do it for Tasmania."
Western Australia struggled to 182 after Brett Geeves dismissed the top three cheaply. Adam Voges top-scored with 52 off 90 balls before falling to Adam Griffith, who ended with 1 for 26.
