The grand-nephew of well-known Delhi player and administrator Ram Prakash Mehra, Vijay Mehra has cricket in his blood. He first went to the UAE along with his Embassy-employed father in 1986, and having liked it so much, opted to settle down there. During his time in Delhi, he captained St. Stephen`s College in Delhi, played in the U-22 Cooch Behar and CK Nayudu tournaments in India and at times even opened the innings with Navjot Sidhu. Once in the UAE, he soon earned his national call-up and has since represented the region with dignity, lending a neccesary solidity to the middle order. The crowning feather in his cap thus far was the opportunity to lead the UAE against India `A` in the recent Interface Cup tournament in Sharjah.
