Eighteen-year-old batsman Jannatul Ferdus, who sat out all of Bangladesh's historic Asia Cup campaign earlier this month, has been left out of the main squad for the upcoming tour of Ireland and the Women's World T20 Qualifier. She is instead one of four stand-bys, alongside batting allrounder Lata Mondal, the 18-year-old batsman Murshida Khatun and the 19-year-old medium-pacer Suraiya Azmin.
The team will depart for Ireland on June 24 where they will play three T20Is against the hosts before flying to the Netherlands for the World T20 Qualifier, where they are grouped alongside Papua New Guinea, Netherlands and UAE in Pool A. Bangladesh will be led by Salma Khatun, with allrounder Rumana Ahmed as her deputy. They will face Scotland in their only warm-up game, on July 5, before taking on PNG in their opening fixture on July 7.
The eight-nation Qualifier will run from July 7-14 with all matches classified as T20 internationals. The top two teams from the event will join Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and hosts West Indies in the tournament proper, scheduled to be staged from November 9-25 in the Caribbean.
Bangladesh clinched their maiden multi-team tournament title in the Asia Cup in June, defeating six-time champions India twice, including in the final.
Bangladesh squad: Salma Khatun (capt), Rumana Ahmed, Nigar Sultana, Fargana Hoque, Khadija Tul Kubra, Fahima Khatun, Ayasha Rahman, Shamima Sultana (wk), Nahida Akter, Panna Ghosh, Lily Rani Biswas, Sanjida Islam, Sharmin Sultana, Jahanara Alam; Stand-bys: Jannatul Ferdus, Lata Mondal, Murshida Khatun, Suraiya Azmin.
