Partnership
Partnership of the day, Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis, 36 runs in 7.2 overs
Deccan Chargers had been bowled out for 82, the lowest total of the season and you wondered how Royal Bangalore Challengers will bat on the same track. It was a slow wicket and it offered turn for the spinners. However, Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis gave the team a solid, if unspectacular start, as they added 36 runs in seven overs. It was Dravid who was the better batsman, playing the ball as late as possible and unfurling couple of deft late cuts. Kallis ensured he didn't throw his wicket away and did his job.
Over
Anil Kumble takes out Adam Gilchrist, 1st over of Deccan Chargers
Adam Gilchrist's early dismissal set the tone for the innings: It was a slow gentle full toss from Anil Kumble and while it was in its trajectory you felt it was going to be smashed for a six but Gilchrist contrived to hit it to deep backward square-leg where Jacques Kallis took a neat catch. It was that kind of a dull and dreary night. Perhaps the loss in semi-final had sapped Deccan, perhaps it was just one of those nights when nothing went right for them and it made for almost painful watching experience.
Moment
The ninth over of Deccan's innings wasn't a dramatic over. Just one wicket fell but it stood out for the way Anil Kumble dismissed Dwayne Smith. He inflicted a Richard Blakey moment on the clueless: It was a slider that came in from just outside off but Smith stabbed at thin air and looked slightly sheepish when he lost his off stump.
