Middlesex 1993 XI v Middlesex 2003 XI, 11th August 2003

In 1993 Middlesex won the inaugural four-day Britannic Assurance County Championship and the Rapid Cricket Line 2nd XI County Championship. It was, arguably, one of the Club's best ever seasons.

The team spirit was a decisive factor in turning several unpromising situations into victories. In addition, a number of outstanding individual performances helped to tilt the balance in Middlesex's favour at crucial times.

John Emburey returned his finest all-round season for the Club, finishing the season as the leading wicket-taker and, more unusually, the worthy second in the batting averages ~ and saw him with Keith Brown and John Carr figure in several match-winning partnerships when Middlesex were looking anything but winners.

Mike Gatting's excellent form, once he recovered from injury, some match-winning innings from Dessie Haynes, the late surge by Mark Ramprakash, some devastating bowling spells from Phil Tufnell, Angus Fraser's return to his best in the latter part of the season, Mark Feltham's very useful all-round performances, Keith Brown's consistent keeping throughout the season all contributed to the whole team effort that resulted in the coveted title.

As part of Mike Roseberry's Testimonial Year the Committee are delighted to announce that they have gathered together this 1993 Championship Winning Side to play the current Middlesex Team.

Dessie Haynes is flying in from Barbados especially for the game and Phil Tufnell is taking a break from his duties as "King of the Jungle" for the day.

There will also be a myriad of other past and present players and officials of the Club attending the day including, of course, the Club Coach Don Bennett and physiotherapist Simon Shephard. Mike Smith will be taking a break from being responsible for the scoring for the day and assuming the responsibility of umpire.

The 30 over match will take place at Ealing Cricket Club on Monday 11th August.

The day will commence with a barbeque lunch at 12.30 with all the players present and a surprise guest speaker.

Gates will open at 2.30pm with play starting at 3.30pm.

The Ebony Trust Steelband, Europe's leading steelband and thirteen times winner of the Panorama Competition at Notting Hill, will be performing throughout the afternoon and evening.

Other facilities for the general public will include a barbeque, the VAT 19 Rumshack, drinks tent, ice cream van and autograph tent where photographs of the 1993 team will be available.

Everyone is invited to join the Committee on this unique occasion.

Tickets to the lunch are available at £35.25 per head. VIP Ticket Price includes Pimms Reception and Tea.

Ground admission is £5 with children under 16 free. There are no advance bookings available.

Car parking is not available on site but parking restrictions in the nearby roads have been lifted for the day.
