Scotland's James Brinkley on playing against Australia

Scotland's 25-year-old opening bowler, James Brinkley, says there will be no mixed feelings when his team plays Australia in his birth country's World Cup debut match on May 16.

Despite his family emigrating to Australia when he was five, Brinkley is single-minded about where his loyalties lie.

"I tended to take a bit of stick at school growing up in Perth (Australia) about being a 'pom', so I am looking forward to it," Brinkley said.

The former Essex and Worcestershire professional is optimistic his team can get at least more than one victory.

"Beating Bangladesh is certainly a target and we don't rule out the possibility (of beating a Test country). On the day anything can happen. You only have to look at what happened with Kenya beating the West Indies in the last World Cup."

Brinkley said, not surprisingly, there had been a discernible increase in awareness of Scottish cricket in the build-up to the World Cup.

"The papers in Scotland tend to mention us more."
