Harris and McMillan appear for Gloucestershire

New Zealand representatives Chris Harris and Craig McMillan added another side to their list of credits when playing for Gloucestershire in a one-day match against India A at Cheltenham yesterday. The Canterbury pair have been playing mainly for the Lashings side during the New Zealand winter, but took the chance to connect with the incoming national coach John Bracewell.

Gloucestershire, the side coached by Bracewell, rested many of their regular players and lost by 69 runs to the Indians. Harris took 2 for 32 from 10 overs but then hit 65 off 86 balls while McMillan survived two dropped catches to score 18 off 36 balls.

In recent matches for Lashings they played in a Twenty20 game against Kent. Lashings scored 184 for 4 with Harris unbeaten on 71 at the end of 20 overs and McMillan scoring 57. Kent replied with 133 for 8 of which Harris took 2 for 24. They also played a 40-over match against Eton Ramblers. Lashings scored 324 for 6 of which Grant Flower made 126, Mark Waugh 52 and Harris 60. The Ramblers could only score 193, with Lance Klusener taking 4 for 20 and Jimmy Adams 3 for 23.

It's been a quiet time in the county programme for New Zealanders. In Nottinghamshire's most recent game, a draw against Sussex, Chris Cairns scored 1 and 7 not out while taking 1 for 63. His other appearances have been in National Cricket League one-day matches. He had mixed fortunes in successive matches against Hampshire. In the five-wicket win he scored 57 not out off 58 balls and took none for 37. In the same game Daniel Vettori took 1 for 36 from nine overs.

A week later, also against Hampshire, Cairns scored 7 and took 1 for 38 in a six-wicket loss. Two days later against Derbyshire he scored 66 off 41 balls and took 1 for 48 off eight overs. Vettori hasn't appeared since July 13 due to a hand injury.

In Stephen Fleming's four county matches for Yorkshire he has scored 310 runs at 51.66. Recently he has scored 10 and 38 against Durham and 16 and 53 against Hampshire. In a National League match at the weekend he scored 7 in Yorkshire's 18-run win.

It's been a mixed time for Craig Spearman with Gloucestershire. He scored 101 off 93 balls in a National League match against Essex and most recently 24 against Glamorgan, both games being won by 7 wickets. He scored only 1 in the Twenty20 semi-final against Surrey and 12 and 0 in the county match against Worcestershire.

Around the leagues, Rob Nicol's Rishton are still sitting at the bottom of the league. In the nine-wicket loss to Todmorden, Nicol scored 87 and in the eight-wicket loss to Nelson he scored 32. In both matches he conceded 21 runs without taking a wicket. He has scored 538 runs at 28.31 and has 28 wickets at 39.32. Paul Hitchcock played against Rishton for Walsden and scored 32 and took 4 for 21 in his side's seven-wicket win. In a match against Enfield he scored 33 and took 1 for 24 in a 20-run loss. Both matches were in the Inter-League Challenge Trophy.

Of all the New Zealanders, Neal Parlane has been most among the action for BAT Sports in the Southern Electric Premier Cricket League in Hampshire. His side is in first place. Of the scores available he has hit: 40 against Bashley, 50 against Hampshire Academy, 92 against Liphook and Ripsley, 150 against South Wilts, 68 against Bournemouth, 81 against Portsmouth and 166 not out against Andover.

His brother Michael, in his two most recent games for Swardeston, seventh placed in the 10-team East Anglia League, scored 37 and 18 while taking 1 for 47 and 1 for 15 respectively against Vauxhall Mallards and Bury St Edmunds.

Their former Northern Districts team-mate James Marshall scored 82 not out and took 6 for 32 in his Formby side's 10-wicket win over St Helens in the first division of the Liverpool and District competition. He backed that by carrying his bat for 102 not out in a 25-run win over St Helens Recs.

Aaron Barnes, playing for Colwyn Bay, which is in fifth place, scored 23 in the nine-wicket loss to Sefton Park.

In the ECB Premier League of the same district, Warren McSkimming scored 96 and held three catches, while sending down seven overs without success for 22 runs in his Lytham side's 53-run win over Maghull. In a no-result match a week later against Northop Hall, McSkimming took 5 wickets for 41 runs. Brendon Donkers scored 45 in a drawn game against Wigan.

In the Dutch cricket league, Darron Reekers returned superb figures of 2 for 8 off 10 overs in his Quick Haag side's eight-wicket win over Rood en Wit. Greg Todd scored 49 for Hermes DVS before he was stumped from Tama Canning's bowling. Todd took 1 for 41 off seven overs, while Canning, in the winning side by one wicket, scored 34 and took Todd's wicket at a cost of 52 runs.

Shane Thomson has had only one bat in recent weeks, scoring 29 against Rood en Wit but not required against Rood en Wit in another match a week later and against VOC. Andre Adams scored 29 and took 1 for 51 from 10 overs as his side lost by 40 runs.
