David Murphy will be on video highlights of Northants' history for a very long time after pulling off a brilliant catch for the final wicket in the Friends Life t20 final in 2013. This was just one of the 72 dismissals, he made in 2013 but it was the one that will be remembered.
Murphy has also been a regular in the Scotland squad, being given the gloves consistently throughout 2013, including a successful qualifying campaign for the 2015 World Cup. He made his debut against Afghanistan in March of that year.
Murphy's blossoming reputation contributed to Niall O'Brien leaving Northamptonshire after the 2012 season, but he faced competition from Ben Duckett and Adam Rossington, the latter signed from Middlesex on a permanent deal at the end of 2014. He marked the end of the 2015 season with a maiden Championship century against Surrey - a match remarkable for a curio as all three Northants wicketkeepers - Murphy, who played as keeper, Rossington and Duckett - all made hundreds.
