RELATIONS

(brother-in-law)

Dennis Silk was one of many outstanding batsmen to come out of Cambridge in the 1950s, and were it not for the demands of his career in teaching, would undoubtedly have had a long career in cricket. A typically establishment figure, only 33 of his 83 first-class appearances were for his county - Somerset - with the rest being mainly for his university or MCC. He toured four times with MCC, twice as captain (North America and New Zealand) and was subsequently president of the club. His teaching career was no less successful and he ended up as Warden of Radley, a top public school, and one fittingly with a strong cricketing pedigree.
