A middle-order batsman and medium-pace bowler, Harry Boam was born in England but moved to New Zealand as a child. He hadn't played first-class cricket when he was selected for the 2008 Under-19 World Cup but hit the headlines a few months later when he became the first schoolboy cricketer to bag a contract with Wellington, for the 2008-09 season. He was again named in New Zealand's squad for the Under-19 World Cup in 2010.
