John Woodcock was cricket correspondent of The Times from 1954 to 1988, continuing to write for the paper as a freelancer for two decades afterwards. He originally went to Australia as a newsreel cameraman with the BBC in 1950-51 and then had a brief spell with The Guardian. From 1981 to 1986 he also edited Wisden Cricketers' Almanack.
