Maxine Blythin was Kent Women's player of the year in 2019 but her success on the pitch led to unwelcome distractions off it: the success of a trans woman led the more vitriolic parts of the British press to question her inclusion in a women's side, despite the fact it had been cleared by the ECB. "There are people who just don't like you because you're different or you don't fit into their binary norms that they see," Blythin said.

On the pitch, her success continued in 2020, as she made a determined half-century in one of her two appearances for the South East Stars in the inaugural Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
