A legendary character in Zimbabwe cricket, Richie Kaschula was a leading figure of the Rhodesian side throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. A left-arm spinner who relied on a tight line and varied flight, Kaschula, who weighed as much as 20 stone (280lbs) during his career, usually featured as one of the leading domestic bowlers. He played for a variety of club sides both near where he farmed, and in Harare. He was a genuine No. 11 batsman with few pretensions other than the occasional heafty heave, and his fielding was as expected for a man of his bulk. He subsequently became a national selector but was remove din the purge following the government takeover in 2006.
