Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings, Dubai

Pro Tip:
Fill your XI with top-order batsmen from both sides.
Our XI: Jonny Bairstow, David Warner, Kane Williamson, Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, Shane Watson, Sam Curran, Rashid Khan, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Khaleel Ahmed
Substitutes: MS Dhoni, Karn Sharma, Manish Pandey, T Natarajan
NOTE: We might not always be able to tip you off about late injury (or other relevant) updates, so please finalise your team after the toss.
Player availability: All players are available for selection.
Captain: Ambati Rayudu
Rayudu made 30 and 42 in his last two outings but has failed to convert them. Against a team he has done really well against in the past, Rayudu is likely to succeed. Since 2018, he has scored 249 runs at a strike rate of 143.1 against the Sunrisers, including a century and a fifty.
Vice-captain: Rashid Khan
Rashid has picked up wickets regularly in addition to keeping the scoring under check this season. He has taken six wickets in his last three games at an economy of 4.91. He bowled four overs for 12 runs the last time these two teams met.
Hot Picks
Shane Watson: He appears to have found his touch, scoring two half-centuries in his last three innings. Against an opponent he favours, one would expect him to fire, especially in the absence of the injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who dismissed him twice in three innings since 2019 in the IPL. He has scored 245 runs in his last four innings against the Sunrisers at a strike rate of 168.96.
Kane Williamson: The New Zealand captain fared decently well during limited opportunities that have come his way this season, scoring 95 runs at a strike rate of 143.93. He has adapted well to to batting at the end of an innings as well. Could he get a big one against the Super Kings?
David Warner: Warner has been consistent over the last few games and is a great pick for your fantasy team. He has scored 160 runs in his last three innings, including two fifties.
Differential Picks
Deepak Chahar: Chahar has been the Super Kings' most successful bowler in the powerplay since 2018 - he has picked up 28 wickets at an economy of 7.35. Even this season, he has picked up three wickets in the powerplay and has a dot ball percentage of 42.98. In the earlier game against the Sunrisers, Chahar had figures of 2 for 31 in his four overs.
Shardul Thakur: Thakur has been excellent for the Super Kings in the middle overs and as well at the death this season. He has an economy of 7.16 in the middle overs where he has picked four wickets and at the death, he has picked up two wickets at an economy of 10.66.
Alternate Scenarios
  • Going by Watson's record against the Sunrisers and his recent form, he is a good choice for captain, especially if the Super Kings bat second given he has averages 67.75 and strikes at 173.71 in the second innings against the Sunrisers since 2018.
  • Though Chahar did well against the Sunrisers last time around, Dubai has been the best hunting ground for spinners in the tournament so far (48 wickets in 12 games, at an economy of 7.67 and strike rate of 22.1). So if the Super Kings bowl second, when the pitch slows down even further, Karn Sharma could replace Chahar.
