At Auckland, February 22. New Zealand won by 80 runs. Turner and Edwards gave New Zealand another racing start and several others scored freely. Burgess and Wadsworth added 52 in twenty-five minutes and Wadsworth made his 46 off 32 balls. Vengsarkar replied in kind at the start of India's innings and Patel batted boldly, but Dayle Hadlee, in particular, was able to stifle the batting.
